I've heard people say that the Sims 4 is more of a doll house Sim while the Sims 2 and 3 are more like an actual life sim. I see it. With the Sims 4, you have to imagine practically everything about your sim (gameplay wise), while in the Sims 2 and 3, things will flow on their own depending on which options you choose for you sim and different factors in the environment.

Also here is something you might find interesting: April Black has discovered a lot new things about the Sims 2. I'd love to see you react on that (its kinda long though) There are also a lot of new Sims 2 mods like 50 New LTWs, LTW Chooser, Shiftable Anything (No more messing with OMSPs), Planting overhaul, Plantable Orchard trees. They are all by Lamare (creator of Young Adult maternity). You probably want to check them out.

The LTW mods are a true game changer! I never cared that much for my sims' ltw, but I got it anyway just to check it out. Now I'm always so excited to go through the whole list for any new sims in my hood so I can pick exactly what kind of gameplay I want with them. It's such a nice complement, I'm obsessed! Now I just wish someone would overhaul the interests somehow, I never ever check that tab for my sims lol

I really hope this isn’t the last we’ll see of the sims 4 because I think there’s more details you’d appreciate, because they really came from players like you voicing your opinion! TS4 is still very far from perfect BUT they have made it more challenging. You noticed the friendships being more challenging, and it’s def more detailed. Children get along easier with other children, and gain relationships much slower with adults. There’s also the compatibility (I think this is base game) so your sims will get along easier or harder depending on their likes and dislikes. You can randomize it, and your sim will actually like or dislike certain kinds of people, conversations topics, etc. I like if I have an active sim, I’ll make them dislike couch potatoes, or something like that, so they can befriend likeminded people. And when you said Mortimer didn’t like the small talk, I’m not sure if it’s the case here lol but they actually can! And townies will not hold a conversation with you if they don’t like it 😂 Another thing is the infants!! I was actually shocked you mentioned how long it takes for their needs to go down, because I feel like since the infant update it’s so hard to keep up with my whole house’s needs 😩 the wants and fears can keep you busy as well, the more your sims experience life. ESPECIALLY if they get the fear of “unfulfilled dreams” 🙄 you’ll have to dedicate all your time to their aspiration or they’re gonna be miserable forever! There’s also mid life crisis, but that comes with growing together. (Decent pack btw) I personally feel the game has definitely gotten hard, maybe even too hard at times, when you’ve got a whole house going. My biggest issue now is the bugs. But the gameplay, imo has improved and I’d love to see you play more of it, or go through some patch notes you may have missed to see what you think!

The traits you pick for your sims can also heavily impact how difficult they are to play as well. Like the high maintenance trait from spa day(?) I swear those sims are NEVER happy. And playing a teen sim with that trait has been an absolute nightmare for me. If you only choose decent traits for them with no "negative" traits then of course they will be easy to play. And the longer you play the more chance you have to develop more traits not just the 3 you start out with. It's like their personality grows as they live and experience life and their wants change as well. I guess it's just slower paced? Lot traits can make things challenging too. I think Cindy could for sure grow to like the game if she plays it more long term.

Growing together is great in quite a few ways, such as milestones (basic memory system). However the gameplay is shallow and lacking when compared to Sims 3 Generations, this pack is less than 1/4 of the content. The bridge town is pretty but boring The infants are very broken.

Your wants will also be shaped based on things your sims likes. For instance liking a certain type of music will have your sim get a want to listen to that type of music. Edit. What you mentioned about situational wants is in there you just never left the home lot. Like going to a bar will make your sims usually want to order a drink etc. If you really want more challenge try more than one sim throw in some babies or toddlers.

The Sims 4 actually has 4 slots for wants. However, the other two only show up in certain circumstances: Long-term wants that take some time to achieve and rarely change. Short-term wants that can be done quickly, and change frequently. Reactionary wants, based on where the Sim is and their current motives. In my experience, this only shows if the sim is in a public lot or one of their needs turn yellow/red. Finally, the final want slot only shows when your Sim is in a situation that they can conquer their fears. I agree that the wants & fear system is half-baked, simply because it is abandoned, again. Besides the base game, only the High School Year and potentially the upcoming For Rent expansion pack have new wants & fears. Therefore, the more packs you have, the worse the wants & fears system gets. Yes! You are being punished for donating to the EA overlord. I recommend the Hope & Fear mod. It is made by the person behind The Personality mod that you like. I also suggest you check out their other mods, too. 👌🏻 In my opinion, The Sims 4’s base game is good enough, especially when we consider that it is a free game now.

This is simply not true. There are wants and fears for ALL packs starting High School Years. With Growing Together, you can develop a fear of failure, and with Horse Ranch - a fear of horses. You gotta play the game a bit more.

It was so fun to hear your take on this!! Here’s mine, since you asked. I love wants-based gameplay. There is a third want that will appear situationally… you’ll see urgent wants for low needs or you’ll be in conversation with another sim and the friendly and romantic wants will start to appear. The fears tend to come up after a situation like a fire or someone cheating. I think the likes system can guide gameplay as much as wants can. I randomize my sims’ wants and get some interesting combinations. If you get Growing Together, there’s a way to get more traits or change traits through gameplay. Infants and toddlers get quirks that add personality and more challenge sometimes. There’s a midlife crisis adults go through - it could be more impactful, but it does help shake things up. Milestones are sort of like memories. I’m so glad you’re playing again, whichever version(s) you can enjoy. 💙💜

50 new life time wants for Sims 2 by Lamare is my new favorite Sims 2 mod. I've been playing the game for so long that seeing the same life time wants has gotten repetitive, but this mod totally fixes that and adds some variety and difficulty into completing life time wants! And personally I love that it even has a Finnish translation, since I play in Finnish. After installing the mod any new sims feel so much more unique now!

I do have some mod recommendations misshissy has two mods that help with the wants and fears. the 1st one is hopes and fears and the 2nd one is the hobby mod which adds a hobby system and honestly helped my sims get more interest based wants. Besides mods something that really helped me enjoy the sims 4 as a sims 2 and 3 player was completely developing a new play style which for me was storytelling I do still use a wants based system along side that but having a story in mind for my sim has also kept me from getting bored.

Wants get a bit better as your sims make more friends because then they start wanting to flirt with them, date them, break up with them etc. The fears are really annoying though because they're very repetitive since there are only 13 fears

Welcome back! I agree with a lot of what you said here. I recently gave the base game a try because it was made free and I had heard that the game had improved. I took the little CAS quiz which generated a fitness-oriented sim for me and after about 3 sim days grew bored with the game because literally all my sim wanted to do was fitness-related stuff and it was very easy to do all of it. I can see why a lot of people who play Sims 4 play challenges that basically lay out their sim's entire life for them, because the alternative is a pretty flat experience (without expansions or mods.) I pretty much came to the same conclusion: The Sims 4 may not be a dumpster fire anymore, but it's just not for me. (Granted, I may have had more fun if I had EPs or mods installed, but I feel like that shouldn't be necessary. The Sims 2 and 3 are still fun games even just as base games, so it's not too much to expect the same from their sequel.)

I do appreciate a like system, but I find it stupid that it is emotion based. At least from my experience it was always my sim is happy and f.e. plays video games and the 'likes it' pops up. And if my sim plays video games while unhappy the 'don't like it' pops up. That's just not how hobbies or likes work lol

As a chronic TS4 player these are the things you missed out on (not including kits of course): - the broken wedding pack, which to no one's surprise is _still_ broken - customizable pronouns - a reasonably sized telescope - werewolves (which has lore with vampires and spellcasters, but no cross-pack compatibility) - body hair and a high school pack. - *_a pack which includes a memory system_* - an expansion pack featuring only horses and nectar making. i wish i was kidding. - a stuff pack. - another city life pack, but this time à la Apartment Life And last but not least: - Caliente refresh. Also there's two versions of the lifetime aspirations mod now. One made by ky-e, now known as Llama Mama, and one by NeedCoffee4That, who adopted the mod prior to Llama Mama releasing their revamp.

Again, welcome back Cindy!! For Sims 4, please look at MissyHissy's Custom Wants and Personality Mods (wants-based) and I use this with Helaene's Preference mods and collections. I cannot play without these two creators' mods. The whole thing works together brilliantly.

I really wish they would bring back one-sided relationships… The Sims 3 and 4 really missed the mark getting rid of that feature. It’s great that it takes a while for the Sims to gain relationship levels, as that does add some challenge, but it was a lot better and more challenging when you weren’t always guaranteed to be liked so every interaction came with some kind of risk. In the newer games, You’re just kind of spamming actions. You don’t really have to worry about finding out things about the other person and specifically curating your conversations to each individual or being unable to actually develop deep relationships at all.

So happy your back Cindy, my dream has come true, please make more Sims 4 videos especially about the new packs, you need to play High School Years, Growing Together and Horse Ranch, trust me you will love them, they add a lot of gameplay to the game, I definitely think the Sims 4 has improved a lot with the recent packs but still needs a lot of work, your a beautiful lady and this has made my day. 😊

Just wanted you to know that you're one of my favs for Sims content since I really don't play much anymore. If I do, it's S3 but I've been so full of anticipation for LBY that I find it hard to play life sims.
