A lot of people don't know what "red velvet" means. A true Red Velvet (cup)cake is actually made with a specific type of cocoa powder, plus brown sugar instead of white. The color can be enhanced by food coloring, but to be a *true* version, food coloring is the last thing on the list, because first it needs the right ingredients. Before the use of Dutch Processing for stabilizing cacao beans for processing, it could actually oxidize. (I may be slightly off on the details as it's been a long time since I learned about this, but basically this is why it doesn't look "traditional chocolate brown.") That chemical change (oxidation, iirc) gradually over time would turn the cocoa from a dark brown powder into a sort of reddish-brown powder. It still has a chocolate flavor (a good one, not bad), but while it is chocolate, plain non-processed chocolate isn't as strong a flavor as Dutch processed chocolate. AKA, it doesn't make you immediately think "obviously chocolate" when you taste it. As a result, chocolate items made with this oxidized powder didn't look or taste like what we in later decades now think of as "traditionally chocolate." BTW, Dutch processing simply means fixing the acidity of the cocoa beans by washing them in an alkaline solution, rendering the cacao bean's normally more acidic pH into a nice neutral pH 7. This actually makes the chocolate taste chocolatier, as well as giving the side effect of fixing the oxidation color issues and increasing its shelf life a little. However, some people genuinely liked the reddish version, in both flavor and color. In fact, by mixing it with brown sugar instead of white sugar, the reddish color would be enhanced. Plus, retaining the molasses in the brown sugar (extracted from white) further alters the flavor into something distinctly different. So between the oxidized cocoa powder and the brown sugar, this is why Red Velvet doesn't *taste* all that chocolatey. The ingredients are simply different from the very strong version of chocolate we know & enjoy today. Lastly, Red Velvet Cake was *NOT* invented by the Waldorf-Astoria chefs! They were simply improving upon an already existing series of recipes (which good cooks do), intensifying the color of the cake, etc, and then marketing *their version* as "their invention." Red Velvet Cake was already known in the U.S., and was particularly popular across the South, though it was not wide spread. As a result, all the Waldof-Astoria chefs did was make THEIR version very glamorous and thus very famous. (I suspect that the reason why so much red velvet cake was made in the South was because of the high heat and humidity. These conditions would have increased the chemical changes in the cocoa powder over time, especially if your tin of cocoa powder wasn't properly sealed. Things that are more acidic or more alkaline are much more prone to chemical changes than things which are chemically neutral, after all! Plus, brown sugar would be cheaper than white sugar, so it tended to get used more often in Southern cuisine, where the fine white sugar was used in ways that would visually impress guests, mixed into things where color was the important, such as in the buttercream frosting traditionally paired with red velvet (cup)cakes.)

And programming is an easy one to do as well, not quite as much fun tho EDIT: also letting them age till fine to get more money and getting some crafting quality increasing perk traits like visionary or entrepreneur to make things excellent quality

Is anyone else mildly upset that the Home Chef Hustle table didn’t come in a hotdog swatch?! They named the Crystal Creations gemology table after him knowing that Simsie would do rags to riches with Stanley using it, so it’s weird that they didn’t at least put a hotdog swatch on the food table knowing that she would test out the tables’ rags-to-riches-ness with Stanley! And it wouldn’t even be that weird, because hotdogs are food, and it is a food-selling table anyway. (it would've been like a secret reference!)

Love this video, best rags to riches is gardening, when it works. Getting plants from different places (the different festivals, out in the worlds etc) then grafting plants to make other plants so there's one plant that grows like 3-5 plants on one.

Gardens always do it for me. I try and try to make a save that doesn't include gardening, but I never manage it, lol! My favorite rags to riches was when an 'annoyed' dust bunny brought us a 'questionable' fruit or produce and it was a normal-quality dragonfruit. Yeah, that Sim did just fine. 🤣

Spellcaster. Get to the perk that lets you buy magic items for half cost. Note that you still resell the magic items for a reduction on the full cost, but that reduction is less than 50%. That means that with this perk, you make more money reselling books and other magic items than you spend buying them. Then just go and start buying the most expensive tomes you can afford, and immediately sell them. Not in a shop or table, just...out of your inventory. It's fine. Then use that money to buy more tomes, and...in short order you have as much money as you have the patience to repeat the loop. Meanwhile, getting to that spellcaster rank almost certainly means you don't have to pay for food, or cleaning or repairs, and if you spring a few hundred simoleons for a cauldron you can just insta-refill all your needs at will, for the cost of a few apples. Infinite income + Very little overhead = rags to riches.

The selfies and painting on a tiny home lot is just too good not to do. And just to up the pressure my last one started in winter.
