Assuming that they were not lying to Richard, the only situation I would find plausible is that its a family business. In fact, the lack of details is why I commented in the longer video on playing to win about this, in response to Richard staying that staying in the job is "playing not to loose." I said there were other factors which need to be considered in this situation, other than just blindly driving forward to something else. How someone in this situation is already winning, and could "win" far more if they spent the next 5-10 years investing that income so they could have 500k-1m by the time they are 30, and then let it compound over the next 20-30 years. Giving them far more freedom and options to do their own thing at 30 than they could at 23. Basically, thinking about long term winning (20-40 years) vs short term impulsiveness.

If I were him I would live like I made 50K, invest well, (he could have a million by 30 just in a money market), then let good "playing to win" investing take him to multimillionaire status and be done by 35-40. At 43, and being blindsided by social conditioning, raised by women, and subliminally for by slow drip poisoning I live the nice guy frame...i just found You and Rollo... I suffered a hard loss. Which brought me two red pill awareness. Now I’m rebuilding my naïve blueprint of the world. And one of the reasons why I suffered was because I was not a hard closer, playing it safe with a woman( lost her because I’m a little bitch nice guy). I have a good IT job, but feel stuck... Life is a negotiating, and not being afraid of crucial conversations to get what you what regardless of the outcome. I found a Niche market, struck out on my own, and I’ve never looked back. It makes me a reasonable living and provides me the time and money to be a good dad and do what I love. I just went thru a divorce 2 years ago. So I decided when all was said and done I needed to get off my ass. And I’ve been happier and more productive since than I ever was before. I get to chase my passions and then work. I used to just work all the time and never got anywhere.

My thinking is do that job for 10 years make 300k a year but live on 50k and save and invest the rest. Thanks for the Vid. I always believe in playing to win, but it has to be in the right context. The 23 yr old, may still need to sit back for a while and think things thru and feel things out before he leaves. He`s still real young. However, in general you need to Focus on what you want, not what can go wrong. Instead of saying I need to lose weight. Say I`m eating healthy and will lose 10 lbs. in 3 months. Instead of I always seem to procrastinate, I am efficient when I complete certain tasks. Focusing on right action, you`re aligned with attracting the things you want, which will bring you closer to your goals. It`s okay to be Aware of what you don`t want, but your Primary focus should be on what you want to create and get specific and write it down. Clarity and writing it down makes it more powerful. Writing it down brings it into the physical. Hope that helps !! peace out !

Wasted my 20s working in retail, drinking, smoking weed, playing video games, playing in bands that went no where, dating single mothers.. basically every beta chump mistake in the book. Only things I’ve got going for me is that I’m a decent musician, tall and good looking, but that doesn’t bring in $$. I want to do the work but I don’t want to waste anymore time on bullshit. My biggest fear is waking up one day at age 40 still a pharmacy tech working with a bunch of wives and fags making 40k a year. I’m willing to do what it takes to make the change but haven’t figured out what to do.

Interesting concept. Depends on how you define win or lose. I'm at the older end of the spectrum at 48. Wasted early years overcoming social conditioning. It's easy to look back and say I wish I would have. You can only move forward. My suggestion is to structure your life so that the cost of losing is low. I'm a minimalist in my day to day life and don't need very much to get by. I have no debt apart from my mortgage which I'm hoping to pay off before I'm 50. Unlike Richard I don't give a dam about cars and my motoring expenses are minuscule compared to the norm. I don't need material signs of wealth. My play to win is that I'm building a high tech company.I can take risks because the downside is low. If you read Nassim Taleb's antifragile you're looking to benefits from positive black swans. It's a bar bell strategy. My ultra safe option is my minimalist lifestyle, my high risk is my business.

Great video Rich! If only I could go back in time in time and tell myself what to do! I played it safe, and did OK for myself. I was in IT\IS for 20+ years and made good cash. I have a paid off house and 2 cars and a retirement plan independent of CPP. But I was recently laid off, and at 51 it's almost impossible to get back to where I was before, especially when there are wonder kids half my age that eat live and breathe IT\IS. I don't want to live like that anymore. Reinventing yourself is MUCH easier at a younger age when your body won't fail you. If I could hit the life reply button I would've gone into a trade and been a plumber or electrician. I would've made connections and started a small business. I'd be my own boss, playing to win! People, don't believe the lie that education, and working for The Man is the way to live. It isn't. It's finding a purpose in life that motivates you, and if it makes money for you at the same time, then great! Figure it out when you're young, because it's tough to do it later in life, as I'm figuring out now. Cheers!

Actually, it's perfectly possible. I know a few guys who were making such wages before 25 working in the northern territories doing fabrication, welding, etc., kinds of trades. In the welding for sure, you don't need college or university to get your tickets and get that kind of job. A casual acquaintance of mine had a crap load of welding tickets by the age of 16. His dad was a welder and taught him. All you have to do is be capable of doing the test, make an appointment to take the test, and then pass the test to get the ticket. I heard that he passed 4 tickets in one day.

As a lawyer, I am naturally risk averse. However, most people do not get rich working for someone else. You can have a good life, earn a comfortable income, enjoy a high degree of security, and possibly have a good retirement by working for someone else. The way to make the big bucks -- to have a shot at becoming very rich is to work for yourself. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Jeff Bezos have all basically started from nothing and become fabulously wealthy. Whether those success stories could be recreated -- probably not. The simple truth of the matter is that 95% of new businesses fail within the first three years. This is, in part, because the IRS limits your ability to deduct losses for three years. In other words, you have three years to make it. Part of the problem here is having enough money to last for those years where you are not making money. Amazon, for example, lost money for many years. Most businesses are under-capitalized anyway, so struggling to just eat magnifies the problem. So you will need a nice nest egg to get started. That's hard to do in your 20s. You really have to have some sort of vision, that is be thinking outside of the box. Steve Jobs made the personal computer accessible to the population at large with the Apple II. Bill Gates supplied the operating system for the early PCs. Jeff Bezos developed online book selling. Elon Musk though up Paypal. Of course, these industries are filled with failures. It take vision and a lot of luck.

Of course, a guy who is making $300,000 per year at 23 (since he was 18) is taking a huge risk in walking away from that job. That is more than most professionals, like doctors and lawyers, make. He obviously has not gone to college and does not have any sort of professional or advanced degree, or even a BA. Personally, I think he would be crazy to give up a job like that.
