I bought one a while back just cuz it was cheap and looked neat, and had no idea what I was gonna do with it, then one day I needed a frequency at 10% duty cycle and I was soldering up a 555 when I realized I had this baby, and bam, and now it is my goto to getting square waves and duty cycles for testing :D.

I need to control a 850 watt bmw radiator fan out of a X5.. I have the module in video but mine is a 3 channel. My Q is about the pwm output, there is a gnd next to it, would I need to hook that up to the frame of motor for reference or should I combine that to the main ground for the fan or leave unhooked? thanks!

You really are a seriously cool dude. Did you know that? If not, now you do. As an aside, I would ask what the f message and the d message stuff was all about. I'm sure it's embarrassingly simple, I just don't understand what they are, or by what means you would send the message to the device. Thanks again for all your generosity with knowledge.

What’s the output voltage? Been thinking about using one to simulate an automotive abs sensor signal. They use a 5 or 12 volt signal.

Further to last video re multi outlet power board insulation test : I used the same (generic) tester as Paul (VC60B) on a 'Jackson switched 4 outlet surge & overload protected board'. It passed no problems @ 250V. I.E. steady intermittent tone and the number 1 displayed on left of screen, (meaning it exceeds upper limit (200 MΩ ). *(this is Australia 240V mains) On the back of the board it warns "this device contains voltage limiting devices test at 250V. only." Therefore on your test Paul you were double the voltage and the voltage limiting devices were affecting the test reading. Cheers all.

You must have a few function generators by now Paul? Being able to participate in electronics on a budget is a big driving force for many KZbin viewers I think and you realise we can't all have Fluke multimeters and fancy megabuck oscilloscopes! Hope you always keep it 'blue collar' Paul!

Grab the motor from a old VCR and use discrete transistors since they are cheap anyway.... Nice PWM module for starting analog electronics. The output voltage is the same as the input or it is fixed / regulated?

You could use this to send step pulses to your stepper motors. The direction though doesn't make sense though. I would look in the code for the problem. Thanks for the video!

It's too strange. One out of five motors works and only in one direction. All the other motors just kinda growl no movement. And the only difference in code between clockwise and counter clockwise is a - symbol. But I'm very open to any suggestions

Paul, the connection for the direction is just high or low, so unless the controller is connected wrong or possibly bad it's supposed to work, right? I guess I'd check the pin numbers on the chip first then Arduino then the code. 😏

Paul, Great video as usual. I have a samll desktop 5vdc usb LED light by my computer and was looking for a way to adjust the brightness of the lamp. This looks like a way of doing it. That might make another short video.

Hi Paul... Some help with your stepper motor problem: 1. The direction has nothing to do with the motor, it;s 100% the code. If it turns one way, it CAN turn another. Same goes for that driver board, which is just a fancy darlington chip broken out if I remember correct. 2. I assume you are using a library, as you always do. The problem can only be there. Try stepping through the header file of the library for clues. I suspect you are just not overloading a variable correct - look for entries with a different amount of overloads if you are not overloading it at all with a direction - I cannot speak to how this library works, as I wrote my own for my window shade project and didnt really put it in a library. 3. All that controls the direction is HOW you excite the wires, and the RPM is HOW FAST you switch between them. Example: to microstep that motor forward If I remember correct its "AB, BC, CD, DA" , with 2ms between then, then *13 (if my old notes are correct) to make a revolution. I used an old stepper motor from some old HP Deskjets to drive my blinds. It worked well for a couple years, but the plastic gears wore out because I had a worm drive setup so I switched to those motors you have there when I found someone provided some 3d parts on thingiverse to do what I wanted. I dont belive I made any code changes, as the wires to excite the coils were the same, but the pin order to step it was different. Here were my notes: //caution, the 5v 28YBJ-48 Stepper Motor with Gear Reduction needs driven in sequence 1,3,2,4 -- not 1,2,3,4 as the old HP printer stepper was int PinStep1 = D5; int PinStep2 = D6; int PinStep3 = D7; int PinStep4 = D8; ...and I made a new pcb (wemos shield) to fix that. so to drive it: Pins 1+2, 2+3, 3+4, 4+1, delay 2ms between, rinse repeat 13 times should give 1 forward turn. to reverse it: Pins 4.1, 3+4,2+3,1+2, delay 2ms between, rinse repeat 13 times should give 1 reverse turn. write you a quick test sketch to test it. If you continue to use the library, maybe check to see if it supports your stepper motor, or maybe it needs defined differently. If you get stuck still, you know my email...I can help you fix it. P.S. That crooked screen on your oscilloscope is driving me crazy. Can you fix that, or are you messing with us? :)

Hi paul the stepper motor problem is the wiring swop the two centre wires over and it will work I had same problem if you check my videos back a bit I explain

Great videos u make can you make a basics to electronics with parts and what they r used for and how to know when a capacitor might be to high to use before chaos happens LOL I love electronics but lousy in math to get correct equations.
