Thank you it was really satisfying to put this one together. I've been trying to find a way to make these aspects of Guitar playing clearer over the years. Really excited to deeply uncover all this stuff in the Play Lead Guitar Program.

I took me years to unlock the CAGED system. Now I think of it as EDCAG-7. The key of C is the piano’s main key because it uses all white keys; and CAGED just happens to be an English word. The guitar however has two E strings, and E is the lowest note. Also the Dominant 7 chord form gives you 4 notes rather than just the 3 notes of a triad. - Play a 3-chord Blues, one that uses 3 Dominant 7 chords. - In each of the 5 positions, find the 3 Dominant 7 chord shapes that use only the top 4 strings. - So at open and the 12th fret, it’s E7-A7-B7; at frets 2-4, use D7-G7-A7; at frets 4-7, use C7-F7-G7; at frets 7-10, use A7-D7-E7; and at frets 9-12, use G7-C7-D7. Notice that CAGED leaves out B and F. B7 uses the C7 shape, and F7 uses the E7 shape. - Once you can play a Blues in the key of E, and move to all 5 positions, being able to arpeggiate the 3 Dominant 7 chords in each of those 5 positions, then move to all of the other keys. It took me years to get this. - 1-3-5-b7 for each of the 3 Dom.7 chords in each of the 5 positions; then locate 2-b3-4-b5-6 as well; finally b2-b6-7 can also be used as part of chromatic lines. - That’s how I developed the ability to play any note on the neck without ever getting lost. I always know both the name and the intervallic number of the note when I’m playing a Blues.
