I hated when people said this cinematic didn’t give any lore when it really gave a lot to dva’s character. She obviously shows signs of ptsd and anxiety from struggling with fighting in a war at such a young age. She is a 19 year old girl who has to protect an entire country and if she makes a mistake it can have severe consequences. That’s hard on a person who’s so young. One moment she was just an ordinary girl who played games for fun and now she’s dealing with fighting for her life and the country. She may seem annoying and obnoxious but that’s what she’s supposed to do. She needs to put on a strong persona to everyone so that everyone feels safe. THAT is part of her job of protecting the country. She puts on a cutesy and confident attitude so that people see her as strong and someone they can depend on. Showing her weak side will cause panic in the country and they won’t see her as someone who’s strong enough to protect them. They won’t feel /safe/ She never thought of relying on teammates because she was constantly reminded everyday that she is supposed to protect the country and that it is her job. She feels as if she’s the only one who can protect everyone when in reality, it’s her squad as well. A poor young girl who has so much pressure on her shoulders.

I remember ages ago when this first came out that people were wondering "why didnt the Gwishin just drop the mech?" when it was prone to explode, and after watching this years later it hit me; how likely is it that the omnic KNEW it was going critical, and since it's a literal reactor, realized dropping the MECH on the CITY would highly increase the amount of damage it (the Gwishin) could do? It wasnt going critical immediately either, so perhaps it calculated that it had time to bring the mech-turned-bomb to the city, but it didnt account for Dvas blaster causing it to spontaneously combust. Kind of touches on the violent intent of the Gwishin a bit, it's a little detail but man is it scary to think deeply about.

Easily one of my favorite shorts of the set. A deeper more intense perspective of the cocky gamer girl we love with not only an accurate depiction of PTSD, but is celebrated by her friends and thousands of fans who simply don't get it. It doesn't matter if they won this one, especially when that victory almost cost her the life of her friends and herself, evident in the battle scars of her mech. Then just as she's assured that it's ok to relax, her paranoia is justified by the sound of the alarm. The fight was great to watch, but also heartbreaking when you realized that this battle proves that there is a reason to be afraid. Overwatch 2 better follow up on this otherwise this is just wasted potential

This is the best short in terms of character development, just look at some of the scenes, media goes “She's eating the finest food...” *shows her eating chips” , “Emerges without a scratch” , she neared died from the solo encounter and still suffering from injuries. People often forgot that D.va is a 15 year old teenager that is suffering from PTSD while having huge responsibility of defending her country from invaders. And she has to put on an act infront of the media, never to show her true pain. The reality of her life isn't like that of a celebrity, she could die any day if things goes bad, but yet she plays it off with her uplifting attitude on things in her life. 10/10 short for me. Many people missed the point.
