From what I know about demons (assuming that is what kitsuna is from context of the short) these people are basically possessed And when a demon possesses a person, the demon can use the person's reserve energies, disregarding limiters that are in place to protect them This causes the person to use up all energy, and probably hence being very hungry Even more interesting in this short the demon seems to 'partially' possess people, or possess by their will Such people are black magicians, one of the most vicious and vile people in earth (you have to really please a demon for it to help you, for that you commit atrocities) Also this demon is possessing 3 people at once Not possible afaik, more likely Kiriko has a whole family of demons inhabiting her lol

Its the Hashimoto clan in both cinematics. Not sure how important that guy in particular is to the story of the area, but the inclusion in this short was likely to create the intentional link betweent the two in the story.

In case anyone missed it, the Hashimoto guy who calls for back up on the phone is a direct call back to the Hanzo and Genji Short. NieR Automata is getting an anime adaptation as well.
