Great job! Love that white PS2 slim - really nice looking!

Personally the best version of the slim is the Pink one I have, hahaha. Should've added all the colour variants in the video. The white one is really cool, but that SCPH-90000 has a different look which I feel is way more ahead of it's time (it's similar to the PS4), which I am really digging as well!

i have the same problem but even worse my lens is dirty and my disc is not spining at all i tried remove it and put it again it cant read the game so i will love to see that replacement

if its not spinning, double chevk if the switches for the lid are working, and if the switch for the lens’ home position works. in order for a disc to start, those all need to be engaged

70K Slim is really nice. Have a Modbo 5 chip sitting around, waiting to go into my 70K PS2 for months now. Holding off until I have better magnification, the wiring is tiny. There's also a mod for regulating power to the laser. Apparently they can overdraw and just kill themselves. Especially when playing backups.

Hell I replaced my laser but it keeps trying to go all the way to the back of the case
@RetroGameRevival6 жыл бұрын
There's a tiny little switch at the back end where the laser slides, which should indicate the PS2 the laser shouldn't move any further. Worst case scenario, this is broken. However, in my findings I often find they are either simply dirty or the connector isn't seated properly (or a ribbon cable might have a tear in them). I would start of by reseating all the ribbon cables, confirming they are absolutely aligned and secured in their sockets. If possible, do a continuity test with a multimeter on each ribbon (this is a fair bit time consuming though). If it still fails, try using a cue-tip and some isopropyl alcohol and work that into the button slightly, making sure it evaporated before turning the machine on. You can also try some air from a spray can (or a compressor if you have one, just dont blast it with a full 20 bar, hahahha) to loosen any debris/dirt inside that. If all of the above fails, sadly you'd likely need a new laser assembly instead of just a laser replacement.

@@RetroGameRevival I should have worded that correctly I will try this but I have replaced the laser assembly twice so i'm confused as to what could be wrong. It's the silver ps2 model 75001
@RetroGameRevival6 жыл бұрын
@@Captain_Dark I knew what you meant, but if you have a look closely, you'll see there is a tiny switch there (on the assembly itself, not on the motherboard) which basically tells the PS2 to stop moving the motor for the laser. That's the one I am talking about you should try to clean :)

only a little bit. You have to remove the anti-static solder blob on the new laser. Other then that it’s really super easy, just a matter of removing screws and some ribbon cables (as always, just take your time and be gentle).
@redelbluredelmai27506 жыл бұрын
@@RetroGameRevival Sorry for the stupid question but.. Why do they put that anti-static blob? Do i make a mistake if i ask the seller to remove it for me? Unfortunately i can't solder and i don't have any equipment to do so.
@RetroGameRevival6 жыл бұрын
There’s no such thing as stupid questions, only stupid answers ;) We’re all here to learn! I might be wrong, so if anyone reading this has a better understanding of why, please feel free to add a comment. That said, I believe it’s there to make sure there’s no accidental static discharge (from going your body for example) across the laser unit itself, which would potentially fry it before being able to use it. As for asking a seller to remove it, it’s generally not adviced, however, you could ask to get it shipped slightly more secure and in an ESD safe bag (likely pay extra, and have to take be willing to take the risk). Again; this would be at your own risk. Hope that makes you understand it a little better, if not you can always look up ESD (electrostatic discharge) on google or wikipedia to read more into it.

@@RetroGameRevival Great.. That was fast! Thank you very much for the very detailed answer. 😁 Now i have a clear picture of the situation. I will think about it before i place my order. I have already tried adjusting the potentiometer checking with my tester but i had no luck so the only solution would be getting a new laser. I can only read CDs at the moment with my PS2 Slim. The Fat one, on the other hand, can read DVDs but not CDs. But i would like to use the Slim anyway for both CD/DVDs since it takes up less space on the shelf.

what is the reliability on the replacement lasers like?

I can honestly not say for sure, the old lasers are 20+ years old and some still work. The replacements in my case havent seen as much use as the originals either, as they arent being used as heavily anymore. But until now they’ve still worked without a problem. But I cant tell if that’s gonna last another 20 years obviously.. I hope so! hahaha

@@RetroGameRevival Another quick question I don't know if this is fact or not but some people claim that earlier slim models are more reliable than the later ones I honestly don't have a clue. I've only just started getting into ps2s.
@RetroGameRevival4 жыл бұрын
I had to think about that claim for a little bit. I have no evidence backing the following up, but from an engineering point of view, it can make a little sense.. ealier models have an external power supply, while the last one has that built in. That obviously comes with it’s own heat source when doing the power conversion. That heat inside the tiny housing of the slim, over time, could cause extra strain on the components, and thus wear a little extra. However, if you keep the console dust free and well ventilated (open it up if you buy one for a good clean), that should be negligible.
