They will most likely add (I'm certain of it) those titles to PS Now or make them purchasable on PS5. Two things are for sure, Sony wants you to upgrade to a PS5 no matter what. They don't want you on any other device, even a PS4. The second being they want to double dip and resell you those titles at a premium. No (sane) company would remove three storefronts without a backup plan to resell the titles.

I want to make this as clear as possible. The stream volume is 100% guaranteed too low. I had my volume maxed and it was only barely loud enough through headphones. I know John has his volumes maxed out but there is a problem somewhere, no other stream through youtube is this low, no other videos I watch are this low.

I bought the PS3 in 2007 and I'm still playing in 2021, it's a pretty amazing console. I modded the HDD to a 1TB unit which got packed with games. The ones I still play these days: Outrun SP2 in 1080p, Gran Turismo 6 in 1080p, Pro Evolution Soccer 2019, NHL 2015, Pure, Street Fighter IV, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift.

Since I wrote my previous comment, I bought the XSX and I'm playing Forza Horizon like a maniac. The PS3 is still hooked though, plenty of great games I haven't played yet.

Oh man, so much MGS4 hate. While there are certainly a couple of aggravating parts in the game, it is still one of my favorite games of all time. The story for MGS has always been off-the-rails nonsense so nothing in MGS4 is groundbreaking there. That Shadow Moses section was like magic for me back when this game came out.

I still have a backlog of hundreds of games just on the PS3. There are so many good games that are enjoyable today but not enough time. Currently I’m playing Mass Effect and GOW: Chains of Olympus HD for PS3. I installed a 1 TB SSD for my PS3 Slim and it’s full of great games that I would be happy with if this was the only system I had to play. It’s a shame I will never be able to play my entire library because there are so many good games.

It felt like the PS3 was around forever at the time, I loved the Phat version, looked so stylish despite being huge, then came the slim version which was just refined but not so cool looking.

The phat looked great on a display but that glossy finish was a scratch magnet. Plus, I always hated the fact that they went with the Spider-Man movie font for the lettering. It's not a bad font but it didn't feel unique. Slim is definitely my favorite version. It was the first time I actually preferred a slim console version over the original in terms of aesthetic.

I installed a Kingston A400 480 GB drive and it's very useful so far. I think it's a good cheap drive because it has already been over-provisioned by Kingston: the drive is actually 512 GB. Bear in mind that the PS3's OS will probably display 447 *GiB*, which is just a different measure sytem. Over-provisioning is important to prevent prematured wear.

I'm purposely holding aside the last game on my list for when we're nearing normality to bookend it nicely. That game is resistance 3, which I really should have played by now, as the first game is in my personal top 10 games ever.

3:30 Coury, I discovered that if you delete your games, and then reinstall them in reverse alphabetic order , the PS3 will retain the order. It's very time consuming, not so bad if you use PDSLE to batch download. I did this for my 70+ PS1 games.. And then of course, I bought the Namco Museum games on sale, and threw the order off again. Oh well. I also use directories such as: PS1 Games , PS2 Games, PS3 Games, Classics - Sega, Classics - SNK, Classics - Capcom, Racing, Puzzle, RPG, Shooters, FPS, Demos, Stereoscopic 3D Games, and now "PS3, best of"

Most people will also never get to experience the 3D TV support on a lot of these games, a friend of mine has a 3DTV still and some of these games in 3D are very very cool. For example the first game featured RR7 was 3D and looks awesome in that mode. Ha, turns out I just had to keep watching about 2:20 they started talking about it.

I bought two PlayStation 3D 24" displays, when they dropped to $79, and I love them. They both came with glasses and a copy of MotorStorm Apocalypse. My favorite 3D games are Uncharted 3, Super StarDust 3D, Super Hang-On, Zen Pinball 2, and Ridge Racer 7 3D. I know a lot of people had problems with defective units, but both of mine are still working perfectly. I've used both for over 7 years, nearly every night, to play PS3, PS4, Wii U, Switch, and I also use it as a PC display. Hopefully they will continue to work.

I know some games even support native 4:3 aspect ratio, so those specific games probably render the game at 480p resolution too. EDIT: according to John, they do. (He said it in the video.) I love my PS3 and will never sell it. It's worth keeping for Killzone 2 & 3, Gran Turismo 5 & 6, Metal gear solid the legacy collection, Hitman HD trilogy, Hitman absolution. I also have a couple of other games. Mega drive ultimate collection and Williams pinball classics. I had a lot of PS3 games that I sold but I won't be selling anymore. I also had at least 5 PS3 consoles dating back to the phat version. My current PS3 super slim was only taken out of the box brand new about 2 years ago. So yeah I'm a fan of the PS3.

I'm all aboard the physical media boat- that said I don't agree John with your statement "With digital games you have to view them as a rental" You got platforms like steam, GoG etc where if a game gets removed from their service you retain access to it, which I don't get why Sony couldn't do with their older platforms. I mean the fact they don't have PS1 Classics on PS4/5 is a joke at this point. You can buy bootleg handhelds on amazon that'll run PS1 games perfectly. But their arrogance of wanting only the best visuals at 4k is absolutely blinding them. IDK if they're going for a premium visuals only thing but they're ignoring a great budget option for the crowds with lots of nostalgia. PS3 didn't exactly offer the best visual fidelity with PS1/2 games but at least you had the options of B/C or rebuying many great titles. But back to the point, if they can't manage to keep their old classics like PS1/2 running via emulation while pirates do it on janky handhelds then what do they think people are going to do? If they can't legally acquire or play something they already bought- they're gonna look to the pirates for solutions. But the biggest issue is, Sony, MS and Nintendo are slowly easing everyone to digital only. I wouldn't be surprised if the next revision of the PS5/XBX are digital only. They don't want to give cuts to stores, they want to get all the profits & that'll lead to losing those big sales & deals you'd see at walmart, best buy, even gamestop. Nevermind killing off the used market. Their biggest dream has to be streaming service only, where you just get to deal with it when they decide to remove a game from their store. Either way I'm not trying to be harsh, I just want these companies to SELL the game and not brush this off with some ToS nonsense that TRIES to dictate how law works.

Every company is focusing on streaming. They get money consistently instead of once (or never with used games). But the bigger issue is that PS4/PS5 don't even play audio CDs. That's why PS1 won't ever work. PS3's mantra was "it only does everything" whereas PS4/PS5 are "get a subscription" and it's a shame.

@@DP12321 I'm aware of why it's appealing to companies, but it's appalling to me. I had some great times with SEGA Chanel back in the day but when we dropped the service I had almost no games anymore. So, zero interest in putting a dime into services like that. I'm wondering if that's a hardware thing for PS4/5 or it's a licensing thing. Since you ( I believe) had to pay to get DVD support for PS4? Regardless, PS1 Classics download was a thing that they could do. But they view old games as bad so, they'll ignore that revenue stream. I got all my PS4 games physically & 90% through sales or deals so they were $15 or less. So, happily ignoring Sony's sub service.

@@Snotnarok I agree, I love physical and don't do subscriptions either, since I stopped renting games or movies once Blockbuster went away. But giant corporations love it so they can get money from you every month (House of Mouse makes over $7bil annually just from D+ which is why their physical releases all but stopped). I think with new systems you have to connect online to use DVD/Blu/4K support? But original Xbox required the remote back in 2001. With PS4/PS5 I read that the cost of CD licensing has increased drastically so Sony just doesn't do it anymore. Not to mention on the music front, both vinyl and cassette have overtaken CDs (what year is it?) in terms of physical sales. It's not that old games are bad. They're just harder to remonetize. That's why Xbox's recent backwards compatibility push was so surprising.

@@DP12321 The vinyl & cassette comeback surprises me. I've got a few friends who love them some vinyl and I'm completely baffled. It's worse audio quality that degrades as you use it. What's the benefit here? I got told "it's like you and Genesis games" and I'm like...noooo? Those don't degrade with use. Playing them on an emu with pixel perfect is arguably better or there's authentic CRT to go the full experience the devs intended. IDK if the old games are hard to re-monetize considering how popular the e-shop was with it's VERY overpriced games selling rather well. Ice Climbers for 5 bucks? Wat. I mean Sony doesn't have a lot of games they've developed back then but they were able to accumulate a large number of pub/devs on board to get many great PS1 classics up there. I heard they had to really go out of their way to get Mega Man Legends because capcom execs were worried about licensing because they have a real business logo in the game & Sony didn't allow alterations to their games but they managed to get it on anyway.

Right. That's why they'd been removing music tracks from GTA games on Steam via patches. Also, puting GOG next to Steam when talking about owning a digital game is just blasphemous. Steam is a rental service, it's literally stated in user agreement.

Ugh! I got so many PS3 games I got to download before it disappears forever. Thanks, Sony. :( You see? THIS IS WHY DIGITAL AND ONLINE ONLY IS BAD. Once the platform and game are gone it's gone forever and there is NOTHING you can do about it. I said this from Day 1 way back in early 2000 when it was becoming a thing. It's bad as you are no longer in control of what you keep and can play.

As far as I am aware Warhawk was the first full retail game available on PSN. In late 2006 Namco put out Tekken 5 Dark Resurrection on PS3 via PSN and was released on PSP UMD just a few months prior too, later Namco would sell an update that added an online multiplayer mode, a first for Tekken. In 2008 SOCOM Confrontation, Burnout Paradise and Wipeout HD were early retail games available via PS

Great stream. What I dont understand is: It makes not much sense to criticize Sony for closing dow the store and then praise Microsoft for their Game Pass policy. Which means you don't own any of the games and can't even play them offline. At least there is no problem to play all games you bought offline on PS3 and most are on physical media anyway?!
