Story time, thought I would share this: When I worked at SIEE - was called SCEE back then - Mark had visited the PlayStation London office, he probably had some meeting with the London PS execs at the time for the PS4 Pro, it was around late 2014. He was sitting alone in the SCEE cafeteria and nobody was talking to him. Was a bit surprised and I walked up to him and introduced myself. He responded in such a nice and warm way and then I asked him if he would like to sit down, have coffee and discuss various things about work and PlayStation in general. We spent like 15-20 minutes and I got the most pleasant and warm vibes I've ever got from ANY high level executive in the gaming industry and in my work career in general. I picked up PS5 Pro at launch but returned it due to work commitments. After seeing a few DF analysis vids I was tempted to put my money towards a mid-range PC (4070 level). But the more research I do the more obvious it becomes you cannot match PS5 Pro performance for much less than £1,200 - realistically you need to be spending £1,500+ - that's if you want a noticeably better experience. So I've decided to pick up another PS5 Pro and make do with my budget laptop for other tasks. Thankfully it now seems devs are getting to grips with the system and PSSR will no doubt continue to improve.

@@SC0RPI0NFURY How so? Don't ge me wrong, I'm not trying to be pedantic, I'm just trying to follow your train of thought. $2000 in a gaming PC we're talking 4080 Super/7900XTX + Ryzen 7700/i7 13700K system, if we're building it GPU focused. You're very close to a 2x on CPU performance and a ~1.7x on GPU performance + I'd say a 3-4x on ray-tracing performance. We're talking Cyberpunk 2077 path-tracing at mid 40s using 4K DLSS Performance. AW2 with path-tracing at 40-ish frames using 4K DLSS Performance. I'd say those are substantially different experiences from what you'd get from a PS5 Pro. With regards to rasterization, Horizon Forbidden West at Performance Pro setting (1440p native) plays at a locked 60fps, while on PC you'd get a 90-100fps experience at 4K DLSS Quality (1440p native) and Ultra graphics. Probably closer to 120-140 frames at PS5 Pro settings. It's enough to manage native 4K at 60fps. I'm not so sure on EU pricing as the original commenter was saying. Probably you'd be streching to get a 4070S with a EUR 1200 budget, and I'd mostly agree that on price to performance, there's no chance of matching it. Also a noticeably better experience is a very blurry metric, but I get him, if I wasn't very used to the PC experience I'd make that deal as well. But at $2000 to MATCH the PS5 PRO?
@KenMathis1Күн бұрын
Personally I think if Sony focuses most of the PS6 improvements on visuals, it will be a big mistake. Visuals improvements simply won't make games that much more enjoyable. Part of that is simply from the fact that we are hitting diminishing returns. What Sony should be focusing in on is gameplay improvements. Let's get back to better physics with dynamic environments. Let's have better NPC AI. Let's have more responsive and adaptive character movement modeling, and so on.

For someone like me who's financially responsible though? I'm happy with it, a couple of these games absolutely have use for the headroom, so it's not for nothing, either. That's why they sell both though right? Options are nice for people that have different life situations! I never understood the PS5 pro hate, not that I think you're a hater I'm not talking about you, but these things will become used eventually and when the ps6 is too expensive, used PS5 pros will be a go to for a lot of people- when I was poor I would consider this good news. But poor people I guess nowadays have knee-jerk reactions. More hardware on the streets is good for EVERYBODY.

If you are wondering how smart he is: _Cerny left UC Berkley at 17 to join Atari and later Sega in the 80s, then Crystal Dynamics and Universal Games in the 90s. He never finished college._

My crack dealer didn’t go to college either. Hardly a metric of success.

@@TSPG1985not success, but his intelligence (or at least aptitude with technology). Most people need to get a degree, maybe a scholarship and internships with companies they want a future of working in. Which makes sense. It’s a ton of knowledge and experience you need, and need proof of. But Cerny (and obviously other incredibly skilled people) didn’t do this. Which is an attest to their skill. Anyone who gets into the field they want at such an early stage of their life are definitely very good at what they do

did i miss the part or were there no questions about the flickering issues of pssr?
@Thor86-Күн бұрын
upscaled from low resolution creates flickering, thats obvious. In the end, it all depends on the game developers.
@Youtube-Censorship-PoliceКүн бұрын
@Thor86- there's clearly a pattern, dlss doesn't have these issues and even fsr does a more competent job in 90% of the cases.

It would be a weird question when they already know it’s a problem from the developers.

@@KZbin-Censorship-Police DLSS targets different and in many cases less aggressive scaling factors. Cerny did address that they designed PSSR to work between 1x and 2.5x scaling, anything outside that range may suffer with current PSSR. DLSS had similar issues at launch and took years for nVidia to fully resolve. In many ways it is currently an experimental product and it's up to developers to decide how to apply it to provide a good game experience. PSSR 2.0 or whatever Sony decides to do/how Sony decides to brand it will fix a lot of those issues much like DLSS 2.0 did.

@maynardburgerКүн бұрын
See, they didn't answer that question clearly whatsoever. It's like Cerny genuinely would not say whether PSSR would get new releases for developers to use on PS5 Pro in clear terms at all. I dont think that means it wont happen, he was just waffling with vague comments the entire time.

I understand that this interview was focused on the positive aspects of the Pro, even though it still faces criticism due to poor PSSR implementation and possibly inferior image quality compared to FSR2 on the base PS5. However, it would be refreshing to hear Oliver ask the tough questions that we all want answers to, such as why PSSR exhibits a shimmering effect in most games and why developers are struggling to implement it as originally intended. I believe Gabe Newell would be open to addressing such concerns and acknowledging that his company has not served its customers well, while also emphasizing their efforts to resolve these issues promptly.

The thing I'm confused about is why PSSR is poor at de-noising Ray-Tracing. PS5 Pro is pushing Ray-Tracing and image quality as its improvements over PS5. So you think PSSR would have been developed with RT in mind. DLSS was originally developed with RT in mind and denoising RT was shown as one of the biggest improvements over using native res.
@Thor86-Күн бұрын
DLSS still has issues with RT, like noisy textures.
@Hyper.773Күн бұрын
I think it's important to keep in mind that this is their first attempt at making an upscaling solution. Not only that, but Sony has multiple projects for different things. If you remember one of their reveals a few years back, they started a project on vehicles (not sure if that's still true to this day, though). Additionally, DLSS was far from perfect with its first release. Of course, PSSR will get better with time, so there shouldn't be much of a worry about it staying like this. I think their main objective was to introduce an upscaling solution that looked decent and stable first before they moved on to focusing on denoising and RT image improvements, which is the best way to go in my opinion. RT is but another level that shouldn't be skipped to without getting everything else done right
@fakejazznutКүн бұрын
DLSS wasn’t “good” until the 2.0 release, and its RT treatment is still very young (ray reconstruction). Cyberpunk 2077 remains its best actual implementation, and that still has problems with softness at low resolutions and frame rates.
@pian-0g44519 сағат бұрын
DLSS is pretty good at it now. But 1.0 definitely was not good, like at all. We’ve seen this with all the upscalers and such. Their first version usually is not great. I do not need to experience FSR 1 again

You don't need to ask a question that stupid that already has an answer. Because they didn't want it to be 800 after tax, that's why. Open up a dictionary and look for the word concession. Read it. I don't buy physical discs. They are arbitrary. If you played on PlayStation 5 you would know that they install, it doesn't run off disc. That's why I used the word arbitrary. So I for one am glad I wasn't forced to pay for something I couldn't use. I'm not interested in spending $810 after tax. If you want it, buy the fucking disc drive- you've already spent $750. If you can't afford another 50, AND you're a physical media nerd, you really didn't have any business spending the original 750 and you're kind of stupid. If your problem is that you wanted the disk drive included at no cost, then, well, things don't work like that, it was never on the table, and it's pretty silly to expect it. TL;DR they did it because they saw a lot of people like me don't use discs and honestly thank you Sony because I'd rather pay 750 than 800. Disk drive isn't worth $50. Not sorry

That is why it has 'PS5' in the name; a generational leap would be a PS6. The price is debatable; I won't argue about it but common sense and logic say that it is more expensive to manufacture than the base model.
