You can mod the ofw firmware to use the og startup sound and still play online but the ofw firmware need to report everything as normal so the console can’t detect if the firmware is modified witch is not impossible but very difficult because modifying the ofw firmware causes it to become cfw Cfw means Custom firmware and ofw means official firmware so it’s hard to make it report as ofw but like I said it’s hard but not impossible

The PS3 also wasn’t my first HD console purchase. The honour went to the Xbox 360 since the closest thing I had to an HD display was a 16:10 non-HDCP compliant monitor. It had a more PC monitor friendly video output with a VGA cable option. Later on I did embrace the Sony ecosystem and wish I’d have done so sooner.

This was the first playstation console I bought with my own money and I mainly got it for ps2 games only to find that it was a later model that didn't support that. So I ended up getting the Ratchet and Clank HD remasters instead. Those were pretty cool. ^_^ The fact you can play blurays on it was a big bonus for me, I ended up watching Inside Out on it and loved it from start to finish.

AFAIK The PS3 startup sound is meant as a buildup for the following Playstation 3 logo when running a game, just like in the PS1 and PS2 eras, but that was later removed. I could never witness that feature as my first PS3 was a 3.55 Slim and I've always felt like I missed on that tiny aesthetic experience.

6:42 I think this was a major reason why sony kept the playstation 2s analog output cable, lots of people (myself included) had no idea what HDMI was and only had CRT televisions, and at the time I just assumed it would work. Its a shame you didnt buy one as you would have still been able to use the thing.
