thank you for this one. my first time cleaning my ps4, and first time changing thermal paste on any of my devices including pc. and i have had it for years. lol so it was really nasty with dust. this tutorial worked perfectly. only thing i would recommend doing differently is when disconnecting the power"box" thing. dont try to disconnect it from the card but from the power supply unit instead. easyer by pulling by the cables CAREFULLY. I broke two of those cables in the "card end" by trying even doing it as carefully i could. but hopefully i managed to fix it. if not i will have to search for a new cable. but i guess its possible to find one of those(the one with 4 wires side by side) Thank you for the otherwise great video!
@SpareTimeWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience. Sorry that your cable is damaged. That's a great tip, I also think it's safer to disconnect the cable at the power supply instead of the motherboard. I would use the pliers myself so that I don't have to pull on the cables. Fortunately, new cables can be bought online. I don't think they are that expensive. Good luck with the repair.

The other PS4 cleaning video appears to be for a standard PS4, which has different screw layouts than this, while this model has the exact same component blueprint so I could follow it step by step. Coming back to this video to point out one major key point: the thermal paste. OP mentions he used Arctic MX-4, which after a while of researching turns out it's the best one. But the importance of this is massively glossed over, because the wrong paste will NOT solve your overheating problem, and according to research, some can even destroy your system! THIS IS IMPORTANT! If you use a thermal paste that has liquid metals or any kind of electrical conductivity then you have to be super careful not to spill it over. I bought a very cheap silicone based thermal grease and while it is easy to apply and doesn't damage your components, it is absolutely terrible for the PS4! It won't conduct enough heat properly and the PS4 will warn of overheating, if at all, otherwise it will just shut down immediately after a few beeps. So keep this in mind! If you're going to replace the thermal paste, make it a good one!
@SpareTimeWorkshop Жыл бұрын
Huge thanks for sharing this information. I must admit that I did not know that the brand of thermal paste makes so much difference. Of course, I understand that using conductive thermalpast like liquid metal is a big risk. I myself have always used Arctic mx4. And never saw reason to experiment with other brands.
@DeMoraJS Жыл бұрын
@@SpareTimeWorkshop Glad I could give some knowledge back! Today I got my hands on a ceramic based thermal paste with solid metals (grey color) very similar to the Mx-4 and the difference is night and day; not only did I apply significantly less paste as opposed to the silicone based one, but now the console is as quiet as it was when it was brand new as well! Ngl, it feels amazing seeing the console in the best shape it's been in years.
@nikhamilton6594 Жыл бұрын
@@DeMoraJSwhat is the thermal paste you used? I'm going to attempt this clean up as-well!
@DeMoraJS Жыл бұрын
@@nikhamilton6594 It was a generic brand named Thermal Cote 400. The one used by OP is reportedly one of the better ones, but regardless of brand the most important thing is that the thermal paste you get is ceramic and solid metal based, NOT liquid metals. You could try a liquid metal one but you have to prepare it and then apply it, which, if you mess up, could potentially fry your system (liquid metal conducts electricity anywhere it drips into), so be careful! Better be safe and get a ceramic solid metal base which you can identify by its opaque solid grey color. Hope this helps!

I followed the tutorial to deep cleanup ps4 since I recently jailbroke it and it’s never been quieter I actually had to hold my ear up to it to make sure I actually plugged the fan back in I put on mx4 thermal paste and replaced the ram pads with artics tp-3 thermal pads not even made a peep no matter the game I play it can even run P.T without complaint it’s temps now top out around 75 C under heavy load which I way way way better than before one think I didn’t do the same as in the video I removed the psu cable from the psu side of it instead of on the motherboard as I didn’t want to rip the socket off the board so even if the socket came off the psu the psu can be replaced but replacing the motherboard is a bit of a pain but overall I recommend anyone do this with there ps4 the guide was perfect and I’m just baffled how quiet my ps4 fat has been

Thanks for leaving a comment. Are you satisfied with Artic tp-3 thermal pads? And what thickness did you use? Can you always see the temperature? Or only after the jailbrake? I agree that it is safer to disconnect the psu cable on the psu side. Unfortunately already had a reaction from someone where the plug on the motherboard was broken. Fun to read that your ps4 is so much quieter. 👍

Just small note some might find it useful to save your time and effort, after opening and cleaning the disk drive when you close it make sure to slide the metal plate with gears under and inside the black plastic edge of disk entrance, had to close and open my console three times before I noticed this. Here 16:03

It's 10:42 PM here and the 3RD DAY struggling soo much to open and cleaning and changing the paste I see him cleaning the hard drive, disk drive and etc... I just won't man😂 Good thing I won't worry about this detail you mentioned. Since I almost never use disk, maybe it won't matter much or isn't even dirty..

@@tommiegun1980 Yes over time your ps4 can catch quite a lot of dust. Haha. Nice that it's dust free again now.

Haha you're welcome. Unfortunately, I do not yet own a PlayStation 5. Let alone a dusty Playstation 5. But as soon as I have 1 I will make a video of it.
