Thank you for this clip! :) It reminded me when i was learning/working in the computer service shop 20 years ago and i was exchanging LAN socket on the LAN card. With just normal soldering tips, no hot air, no wick to suck off that excess solder, no sweet jelly flux... just steady hands, quick touch and a strong prayer :D Damn, those were fun times :D
@M0UAW_IO834 жыл бұрын
I've seen a few boards like that where the through hole has been ripped out, if it's not going to interfere with the case or shield I add a piece of tinned copper wire through the hole(s) and loop it over the top of the socket then scrape a section of the ground plane clean to solder it to, I also solder the wire to the top of the socket so it acts like a strap.

hdmi port wont be the biggest problem on this. those obvious burned and missing components aside. when you have that kinda savage holes (front holes on hdmi port) in a multi-layer pcb, it will most likely be shorted on any layer.

Why don't you remove some solder mask next to those holes where the the legs of the hdmi connecter should fit and make some bridges in solder or pieces of solder wick soaked in solder to fixate the connector even stronger to the PCB?

You should have cont'd tested that bypass cap... if it was shorted, it could've overloaded (or worse, taken down) a voltage rail. Also, I would've put in glue or epoxy in the mounting holes for the HDMI connector, just for extra strain-relief for the solder pads.

The person who tried to solder the port, certainly had no clue about flux. And probably used some utility soldering iron from granddad's shed. I don’t understand how people try this themselves and don’t stop they just keep going while burning everything on the board. Takes allot of heat to melt those other components. I can’t imagine this was a shop related job. Judging by the film on the top it looks like they used flux for copper pipe soldering and a solder iron to weak to do the job. It’s funny because You tell people what flux to use and solder in your videos, I do t get how people get into so much trouble. Lol
