PlayStation 5 Pro was revealed and pretty it would be sold as many machines as unplayable copy of Concord. At least people can use it to play peak Astro Bot with it.

Facts 😂. Microsoft should have brought up being the only one with a free backwards compatibility program. Nintendo is so so bad about it especially. Like yeah, at least they still sell physical games but there's so much of the world that doesn't matter for. The only real backwards compatibility on the switch is locked behind subscription paywall 😢.

I think one of the problems is the way of thinking as well. Generations are just dead at this point. Game development and hardware tech pretty much peaked last gen and it's been diminishing returns since. I mean the PS5 Pro is literally just promising the same things the PS5 did. But the PS5 and Series X haven't been able to achieve that because devs insist on chasing hyper realism and features most console gamers can't even use or don't care about like Ray tracing. Trying to force this as a "generation" when it just isn't really anymore is part of the problem. Consoles are so confused right now.

PS6 will probably be 8k since that's where the TV market is headed but I'm guessing that it'll be more hardware and processing driven than resolution based. Right now a lot of games struggle with hardware limitations at 60fps. Being able to expand fov, 120fps, better hair rendering, more enemies on screens, etc. Just being able to load in more at once has a huge advantage over making it simply about graphics. Graphics are great now, we really just need devs to work on the games without hardware limitations instead.

The comment about chasing power is so on point. Consoles have forgotten they're meant to pull in casual gamers and general audiences (and they've struggled to even do that and lost most casual gamers to mobile). Chasing high end PCs isn't going to get them anywhere. Especially as we have exclusives going to PC and PC getting more accessible (in price and user experience) on the flip side. Development basically peaked last gen and now we're seeing more problems this gen because developers are chasing miniscule hyper realism improvements. There's a reason why the Nintendo Switch has done so well despite being weaker than last gen hardware. It's not even exclusives (they didn't save the WiiU), but just because it's designed to be fun. I mean you default get a second controller attached to the device. From both Sony and Microsoft my favorite console has been the Series S. The online gamers bash on it, but it's the best console experience I've had in a long while. Only $300, incredibly small and lightweight so I can easily travel with it, simple plug and play, and I can play most releases on it really well. I don't even have a 4K TV most of the time due to traveling and even at home my TV isn't capable of 120fps. Console gaming needs to remember why we all don't just buy PCs. Frankly if Microsoft just pushes Xbox Play anywhere harder and improves their game certification process easier Xbox would be perfect for me. Have a lower end cheap SKU, a mid range (powerful console) SKU, a proprietary handheld SKU, and for everything else tell peeps to get a PC. Then just improve the gaming experience on Windows (give an Xbox Gaming mode to keep the UX consistent) and make Xbox Play Anywhere the norm with Xbox and windows PC development 1:1. Cloud and Mobile even fit in for casual gamers. Microsoft can easily have their cake and eat it too, so long as they don't get lost chasing trends. Build a wide expensive ecosystem and support it well across all their platforms.

Sony's biggest mistake is that they know what users like, but they don't try it. Concorde is the worst example of that. Astrobot showed us what Sony is currently missing No dlc, no season pass, no day one patch, just making a fun game.

I just bought a pre-owned PS4 with a terabyte worth of storage, along with GTA V and Resident Evil Biohazard as a gift for my sister's birthday. It cost me about $260ish altogether.
