I get not wanting the MS acquisition of ABK to go through. But yeah, to think the FTC or CMA can actually stop it are naive. It would take not regulatory bodies at this point but actual legislation. Legislation designed to break up all big companies and prevent future mergers and and acquisitions. The fact they think regulators would be ok with Sony buying MS though? That would be a beyond this. But the fact they think it’s possible while MS “can’t” buy ABK just wreaks of fanboy. From the EU to the CMA, to US legislators calling out the FTC for siding with Sony, we are seeing elementary playground console wars play out at governmental levels. The FTC’s biggest flaw is clearly nobody there is a gamer with any knowledge of the industry and history. It would all be so funny if it weren’t so sad.

Playstation is holding sony up. Microsoft holds up xbox. If xbox struggle, they are backed by one of the richest companies in the world. Now if playstation begins to struggle..Sony wouldn't be able to sustain holding them up. They would also help create the greatest playstation fanboy salt for everyone.

I think the reason for the Bethesda console exclusivity is that allegedly Sony was attempting to buy Starfield exclusivity, now I agree that it sucks, it would be great if everyone can enjoy the game(s), and I'd love that, but Sony kinda ruined it for their platform with that attempt.. As someone who owns, and plays on all platforms, I'm gonna have to say as far as Bethesda is concerned, you need to look at the situation from the developer's perspective. Bethesda games, specifically TES4: Oblivion, Fallout 3, and Fallout New Vegas, all ran atrociously on PS3. Skyrim played pretty good on PS3. Fallout 4 and Skyrim SE ran pretty well on PS4, that is, until PS updated their console and broke the save file system for these games which created the 0kb bug, that has still not been fixed. When Bethesda announced they were bringing mods to console, Sony dragged their feet for months whereas MS jumped on that bandwagon instantly. When Sony finally agreed to allow mods on PS, it was just a complete and absolute joke. Sony allowed mods, but all mods had to be made with in-game assets, no external assets. That meant no weapon mods, no armor mods, no quest mods, etc. I have always felt that the reason Bethesda allowed the aquisition in the first place was because they were tired of Sony's crap.

The reason why Starfield shouldn't be coming to playstation is because if Microsoft didn't buy Bethesda/Zenimax it wouldn't be coming to Xbox. Sony already made exclusivity deals for Deathloop and Ghostwire Tokyo by then and Starfield was reported to be next. Normally i'm as against exclusivity as you seem to be but Sony needs some damn consequences so that they stop pulling this strategic sabotage shit they've been doing to Xbox for nearly a decade.

I think Microsoft had two options, Use the 1.8 TRILLION they have in reserves to bully Sony out of the Market, or buy Activision and make the market more competitive and support Sony, Nintendo, nVidia and Valve with traditionally multi-platform games (COD, MineCraft, Etc) and raise ALL the platform industries across the industry (a rising tide raises all ships), Sony fighting this really just damaging the entire industry for the sake of the Playstation brand, while Microsoft is trying to help the entire Games industry (as a Blizzard fan, I think Activision by itself is poorly run and disrespects their employees). I prefer the raising of all ships myself, but Sony is willing to destroy the industry in their own self interest, while Microsoft is buying Activision to help themselves, but also helping the industry. Good video, I share your opinion on this article.

If Sony is so dependent on having COD content that is exclusive to Playstation, they could have just accepted the 3 year or 10 year offer, and produced their own exclusive COD content from their own 1st party IPs while Microsoft could do the same. All purely aesthetic of course. Like for the Xbox version, it could have charms and skins from Halo, maybe a bonus gun from the series. And on the Playstation side they could do the same with Killzone and Resistance.

You know, the only thing that was actually a successful hostile takeover and a failed hostile takeover was Bethesda's hostile takeover of Arkane Studios and their failed attempt at acquiring now-defunct Human Head Studios. The latter was so messy that during the development of the most anticipated sequel to Human Head and 3D Realms' Prey 2006 Bethesda tried giving Human Head almost impossible goals and, when met, moved goalposts and claimed that it didn't meet expectations. This went on and on with Human Head resisting selling to Bethesda at every turn until Bethesda ultimately forcing them to shutdown development and transferring development of Prey 2 to Arkane, scrapped everything that was completed by Human Head (roughly 80-90 percent), and turned it to a completely different game entirely from the story back in 2006. The finished game had nothing in common with the 2006 game, except sharing the same name as the 2006 entry. This to most Prey fans was one of the biggest fuck you to those who wanted a Prey 2 and instead got what we have today. A game that had nothing in common with Prey 2006 except sharing the same name. Sorry for my long, angry rant.
