it's because they are all spending money on microtransactions in the same 10-15 online games they have been for years. Not me. I've bought a shit ton games on my ps5 this gen, 1st and 3rd party, on disc and digital, but when I look at the "who's also playing from my freinds list" it's never more than a person or two, and that goes for both 3rd party and 1st party games, I was shocked no one else was playing Spiderman 2 from my 40 friends. Silent Hill 2 was like 1 from 40 people

Games are massive and huge time sinks. Massive open worlds, endless quests and side content, multiple endings, DLC, tedious trophies, unnecessary filler content, tedious progression requirements. Games are semi part time jobs. Why would the average player buy Spiderman 2 or any other new game when they can just play their favorite online game and call it a day? Or they are still trying to beat Elden Ring for the tenth time with some new meta build they discovered? I think video game publishers shot themselves in the foot making games as long as they have. If games take 100+ hours to complete...for one of several endings... and 200+ hours to platinum, there is no reason to buy new games when you are still diving into the last one.

@@kayc7442 I like games that have a start and end, so I get new experiences, guess I'm old school, I still mange to fit a ton of online games in too, and yes, open world games have become way too bloated but there are still a lot of 20-30 for experiences that are good, and at least the gamers are spending I guess to keep the revenue coming in so more games keep coming haha

Sony players don’t buy any games 😂 They buy call of duty and play Fortnite and marvel rivals 😂 Sony is better off just making and releasing games for PC.

Jay Bari doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. The fact that the games aren't just dropping on platform isn't the problem. The problem is Sony and their mishandling of the following: Sony's live service initiative has failed Billions of dollars which could have been put into the development of other games has been wasted with games being cancelled Studios that were purchased being closed and developers being let go The disaster that has been Bungie The failure of Concord Sony having to rely on partners such as Microsoft to bridge the gap for the next several years due to a lack of first party games being released which was a result of multiple games being cancelled

There need to be a serious discussion about this whole thing about buying games, physical copies, and ownership of said games. These three topics I feel are intertwine with each other and looking at the behavior of how consumers were buying games over the years.

I'm not sure what serious discussion you are looking for. Every indicator points to every game company moving towards digital only either by will or force. You can discuss the implications of the phenomenon but it is inevitable

I feel like the biggest issue in games is no one is buying games except Nintendo players. Like there seems to be a hard cap on games that sell well. Maybe 4 or 5 big games ? I can’t believe they are saying gta 6 might sell more games.

I play 1st party xbox games on game pass so I'm not going to buy those games obviously.

It's partly a volume issue. Games use to take 1 to 2 years to complete. Then it was 2 to 4 years. Now it's 4 to six years. Less total releases Less flops Less hits Of course you would think that if there are less games available, there would be more concentrated sales. What game companies fail to realize is what we had in the Golden age of gaming was variety. Something that is rarely discussed

​@@kayc7442the problem is not 50 buck or 100 buck, is how people perceive the valuo of the thing they bought, hence no one is buying Concord because there is better games for FREE, that's why people buy $1000 VR set, because they can see the value for a different experience from 2D, albeit a niche... Though confuse me people buying a PS5 pro though

Microsoft makes more money from us gamepass users cause we have gamepass and buy games. This has been addressed. Microsoft percentages in 3rd party sales go up every quarter. Jim Ryan said ponies don't buy games. Get with reality.

Sony's most successful game the last couple of years was Helldiver's 2. A game of a first party IP but by a third party studio, that was a live service game that released on PC. Thats why Sony wants live service games. Their single player games don't sell enough to cover their costs.

Not many people plays games because price, streaming, and lack of unique gameplay. Most of sonys games are movies with gameplay. They are gonna end up like ubisoft, their games are fine, but not worth buying. Many people when from ps4 to pc.

An exclusive will usually sell less than a big third party game for obvious reasons. But they will sell more consoles. Its a foreign concept to xbox players I know

@VGFightSchool sure. Look at every console that's selling well. They all have exclusive games. When Xbox did their best generation with 360 they had tons of exclusives. Exclusives do drive up console sales. This is nothing new.

@nelsonsham2368 no, its not just nintendo. This goes for everyone. Sony won the previous generation cuz of they had a lot of great first party exclusives. Microsoft had their best generation the gen before that when they had a lot of exclusives, with the 360. You literally cant find an argument that disproves this.

​@@bv7078 Wrong. I play on game pass and the games I like I buy. I DONT buy Playstation versions instead. They only play on playstation and have no additional value in the ecosystem. Xbox versions give me play anywhere cross save cross progression and cloud play. For a cheaper price than the playstation version I get a version that plays on my Xbox a version that will play on PC and it is added to the cloud library so I can play on the steam deck, my tablet or phone or even by streaming on the PC or Xbox to reduce install sizes. Playstation has no cross save or cross progression and you have to buy the same game twice or double dip at full price. F that. I literally can't see me buying any game again from PS store because of Sony being so anti consumer compared to Xbox. In comparison Xbox purchased games will work forever on whatever device has a web browser runs Xbox OS or runs windows. PS5 games run on a PS5 and may possibly run on a PS6 if you are lucky. So yes I buy Xbox games. I just don't buy PS games because they have comparatively little value or future proofing.
