I think it’s refreshing how you call out some of the tech reviewers out there and how hard they are while reviewing this product. They don’t have children they don’t have lives and the ones that do have given the portal some decent reviews. I feel like this sheds light on the intent of audience, these tech reviewers are aiming for. Gullible young crowds that have high standards for gaming versus your legacy gamers that already have lives, jobs, families, and how products like these are a win for these casual players. I tried to make sense and sound smart. I hope I did 😂.
@IntentionalTech4 ай бұрын
Thanks. Appreciate it! Everyone has their own experience to draw from but it’s helpful to ask who the product is really intended for when reviewing. Their advice may be appropriate for the audience on their own channel, but ultimately I don’t think the Portal is really aimed at hardcore gamers with fewer responsibilities.
@stijnvonck14314 ай бұрын
I agree. If you know what it is for and you are the target audience, there is no better value for money. But a lot of these others guys are expecting things that the portal is not designed to do, nor is even remote in the same price category

Sony has published the update 4.0.0 two days ago. They fixed the micro stutter problem. And what's the most important update, the PS Portal can now play games over cloud streaming. I wear hearing aids, so I usually bluetooth my tech directly to these. I don't think any hearing aid manufacturers are going to adopt Link any time soon. So I'd need to take them out, put on Link headphones, then miss out on all the differential audio frequency from my hearing aids and have a poor quality audio experience through headphones that isn't tailored to my mixed frequency hearing loss. Please Sony - enable Bluetooth.
@IntentionalTech4 ай бұрын
Such a great point. Thanks for sharing. My dad is hard of hearing and has been using his hearing aids to connect to the phone and TV for years now. If they tried to enforce LINK on something like a TV with no BlueTooth option, there's no way it would be a viable option for him.

@@IntentionalTech That said, I actually bought one yesterday. My 13 year old son and I have been putting it through its paces. I realised I could put a 3.5mm cable into my old Compilot, then use this to stream to my hearing aids. I haven't tried a usb-c bluetooth dongle yet (I think you mentioned some people had luck with this in your video). Still it would be much simpler to Bluetooth directly. Here's hoping it's something that may be enabled in a firmware update at some stage, if the hardware is actually there on the SOC?! Not enough has been said in the tech space about how janky the pulse explore buds are. I got them to have the most seamless experience possible for wireless audio with my ps5 and they’ve been anything but. These buds disconnect 1-2 times a week while right in the middle of gameplay and require a multi step process that takes several minutes to get back up and running again. Reddit is full of people complaining about it but Sony and the tech pundits have all been silent on the subject, which is incredibly disappointing for such an expensive product.

I'm not saying link isn't better than bluetooth, but sony not including bluetooth on the portal is completely unacceptable. It's an obvious money grab to force you into their headphones and anti consumer. While link may be better, some of us like the convenience of using the headphones we already have from the ecosystems we are already in. I ended up picking a bluetooth adapter to plug into the headphone jack. Also, it's absolutely ridiculous that they are trying to push this and not integrate it into the ps5 itself. That dongle is just ghetto.

This thing was brilliant, with one thing simply made it unbearable. If they had not messed up on a monumental scale with the screen refresh rate differing from ps5 and causing that horrible micro stutter, it would have been great. And before anyone says they didn't have that issue and it's my network , I have gigabit broadband and when I tried on chiaki on oled steam deck, there was zero issues, so it's clearly an issue with ps portal or their software used on it. The fact I had to keep turning on and off HDR on my ps5 manually from ps5 rather than through ps portal was really irritating too

Great review particularly around the benefits for the time-poor and, as an audio engineer, the perspective on the headphones. I have the Pulse Elites and value the clarity and definition. I respect Sony's decision to opt into their proprietary 'Link' connection from both a lower latency AND marketing/sales perspective (I do wish they thought about switching between devices a bit more). Regarding the light, maybe some tape? I have my PS5 in my bedroom with no TV just my PSVR2, Portal and it suits me wonderfully.

Just got one but I think i will return it. It is pretty awful. People weren't kidding about how laggy it is if you don't have the fastest wifi signal possible. Even at 500 Mbps, it sucks. Hardwired my PS5, running an Asus wifi 6 router, turned resolution down to 1080, turned off 120 fast, etc, etc. It still sucks. TLOU 2 is nearly unplayable. Yes the lack of Bluetooth is criminal but the laggyness is what kills the entire experience. At 100 Mbps, it isn't really usable. Absolute garbage.

What I did was install 2 WIFI repeaters: DECO XE75. It works wonders because most ISP's modems/routers are terrible. Even if you pay for a fast internet connection, coverage won't be great unless you upgrade to a better router and/or repeaters. That way, your portal will be much more usable, and awesome as mine.
