Because not only is it fun earning trophies, but it also gives games a lot more play value. A lot of times, when you finish a game you’re just done with it. I have 33 ish platinums Take dead space for example, to me it didn’t have a ton of replay value in of itself. But going for the platinum gave me a reason to play it again on the hardest difficulty etc

Trophy Hunting is so addictive, there’s no better feeling when that platinum pops but I do feel there should be some rewards for getting those platinums, like money added to your psn account. Sony need to bring that back

I trophy hunt because it is fun to level up and, like you said, you experience the game in different ways. As for rewards, how hard would it be for Sony to develop free pixel items that we can purchase with rewards won from trophies. Steam sells things like this such as avatar backgrounds so it seems like a win-win.

For me, seeing the 100% sign after 100% completing games is why I complete games in its entiety. With trophy hunting, getting every single trophy the game has to offer(including ones that don't work towards a platinum(DLC)) brings about the same satisfaction! And like you said, the trophies can challenge you to play the game in a new way or find an Easter egg that is not part of the base games 'completion' e.g.in Spider-Man:Miles Morales, if your completing all trophies, there is a trophy that requires you to pay respects to a statue of Stan Lee but if you were just getting all the collectibles than you most likely would have missed it 😬

I think the reason they won't bring back rewards systems for trophy collections is because of the cheaters and stackers. They take all meaning and fun out of this exercise.

I would love more in-game bonuses for platinuming a game like in Ghost of Tsushima when you get a new armour dye. Avatars are also nice, themes are going to die out given that PS5 doesn’t use them.

@@IliyaKunin I always ended up using the two tone default theme 😀 but maybe they’ll change it in a way that could use something like live wallpaper instead of a static picture for installed games when you’re on the game selection screen. Different icons for different versions of the game (standard or deluxe) would be cool too, at least in my opinion. Not a biggie but a nice touch. Even cooler would be if they made different launch icons for platinumed games, like if it had a platinum colored outline or a little platinum trophy in the corner of the picture. Dungeon Defenders, in the in-game tavern it shows all the trophies on tables and there is a giant one in the middle if you get plat. Good way to show other people how much you played and got done

There should be some discounts/freebies/privileges for Platinumers. As Sony does get something from more people playing games for more hours and being engaged for longer on their console platform. Aside from that thought, the only reason I've decided to hunt a few Platinum trophies is that the data and hours played can support the devs indirectly. So I do this for VR games, particularly the ones I really liked and would like to see a sequel. Also, if Sony see the engagement hours put into VR, and these particular VR games I like too, they'll know to invest more money, time, and expertise into these kinds of titles, e.g. Triple AAA/well-designed VR titles, and not others. When devs know through this data that people actually complete their games, they might be incentivised to continue making full/long game experiences too, rather than a quick buck. I heard that only a minor percentage of people completed Skyrim, but I would probably be one of them as I don't think I would care for the flat version game. The VR version though was mind blowing! And it was like the last game I tried out in VR as I couldn't guess via KZbin how different it would be. This is my current game to Platinum, as I would really like a remaster/remake of that for PS5 VR. It should be an easy project and easy money for them too, if under Microsoft they can still release it. Even if they took the Sony game data, decided it was popular and re-released a newly enhanced Skyrim VR on PC I'd be a happy chappy ☺️.

Yeah, I wish there were more encouragement from Sony for completionists, I wouldn't even mind minor things, like avatars, themes, things like that, that they are kind of doing, but I would like to see more. I see what you mean with in-game time, that being said, I think engagement rate is more relevant for publishers that focus heavily on DLCs and micro-transactions, as if you didn't finish the main story chances are you won't buy them, but Sony doesn't do DLCs as much (Obviously they did HZD and Spider-Man) but this is not their main focus, so I believe that for them units sold is actually better measurement, but I might be wrong. What I think this data is important for, is for developers to tailor better experience, for example, if they made 50 hours story and only 10% of people finished it they would take it as feedback to make next game shorter, so if you want longer games and more hours out of them, this is definitely the way to go! As for VR, I think we will see more VR titles out of Sony in the future, you can see that they didn't abandon it, like Microsoft did with kinect, but it is not their main focus currently. I believe with the launch of PSVR2 we are bound to see a big influx of 1st and 2nd party VR titles and after that it would depend on sales numbers and customer feedback. Good luck with your Skyrim platinum journey, I heard it's amazing, but shame on me, I haven't played it yet :)

I played Xbox for years and accumulated around 355,000 gamerscore. I’ve been collecting trophies on PlayStation now for 2yrs and im at lvl 280 so far.

Honestly I started trophy hunting out a competition cause someone on my friends list had platinum's in a lot of games I thoroughly enjoyed! So I decided to try getting one myself and the next thing I knew, I kept doing it in other games. I only do it for games that I have a real like for, so I won't just plat every game out of necessity , but it's been a lot of fun and gives me more time with single players after I finished the story. It makes me feel I really got to fully enjoy the world the developers put out there for me.

the problem with PC trophy hunting is that there are a ton of "burner" games on steam, which literally just opening the game gives you 1000achievements right of the bat. its called machine hunt. there are a bunch of games like that. Its pretty sad, but hey what can you do.

I have over 100,000+ gamerscore on Xbox been an Xbox gamer for most of my life but decided to buy a PS4 pro couple of months ago to try all the exclusives, I'm fairly new to PlayStation's ecosystem but I'm digging the trophy system here. And can't wait to get that first platinum!

With Elden ring and blood-borne platinum's under my belt it just shows how dedicated you are to the game. With 55 platinum's in all I'm trying to platinum demon souls for the PS5. Trophies encourage you to play through the entire game see everything the game has to offer or encourage you to play the game in ways you never thought you could

Yup... got a Gaming PC since 2 months and started collecting some achievements but nothing can beat the PSN Trophy System its just perfect and the Trophy Hunting is just fun and frfr a hobby for me because i can expierience the game to the fullest and i got a nice Platinum Trophy... on the other side on Steam or XBL there ist nothing... Just if you have 10 games they showing on your profile.... Perfect Games 10 on Steam or on XBL 1000 Gamerscore... PSN hands down best system ever

My favorite achievements are the challenge runs, like in Kingdom Hearts 1 where you gotta speedrun the game and never change your loadout, it really changes how you approach the same problems and that's so sick!

Oh, I know what you mean, my favorite trophy lists are from Resident Evil games, because they force you to do speedruns, highest difficulty and other challenge runs (no healing etc.), I love doing those so much!

Thanks for the explanation. I wanted to know how long it would take me to go from silver status to gold status. And it looks like I have a LONG way to go ! That slope gets steep! I love trophies that encourage to me try everything that the game has to offer. Such as using all the weapons or skills in a game or completing all the side missions. These trophies are really positive and make you appreciate a game more. I find it crazy when developers add trophies that make a game really unpleasant to play - like a trophy for playing the whole game using the worst control scheme. I find collectables a little boring and my heart sinks if I start a game and discover there are 500 to 1200 collectables. You know you are going to finish the game and you will have one collectable missing. On the xbox 360 you had avatars and you could get avatar items as rewards sometimes from completing a game along with the achievement. So for example portal 2 I think you got a t-shirt and a baseball cap for your avatar as rewards. I thought that was a great way of rewarding players that completed a game. In steam you can earn badges and you can display a few favorite badges on your account profile. These simple digital rewards are unique to the game and really fun. I would love Sony to add digital rewards like this. With PSVR2 and big companies interested in the metaverse, it may be a good time for Sony to introduce avatars. And it would be really cool if we could get a simple avatar T shirt or hat for each platinum or 100% we had.

Oh yeah, I've been working on that gold badge for a while now haha I would love to see more avatars, Sony actually does offer them (or at least used to) in some games, like God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn and Spider-Man :)

I didn't really care about trophies on PS4 but now that I finally got a PS5 it's like been my priority now. The only thing that bugs me is some games (apex legends) have trophies that require you to purchase dlc in order to get the trophy which I feel is wrong. I know you can argue I got the game for free and got the other trophies but still, the base game has 6 characters and for one trophy you need to deal a certain amount of damage with 8 characters.

@@fris-framby6204 Technically you can buy characters and coins to spend on packs and cosmetic items which I count as DLC. Come to find out I didn't have to pay for the characters as if I can't grinding I would eventually unlock them.

As a many years PC player I must admit your (PS players) achiements/trophies are very appealing. Too bad Steam’s isn’t a thing… and also even the pop up of the achievement on PS is very satisfying. I’m on PC messing around with the streaming service and can’t get my mind to decide if I wanna do the jump to the PS world.

This made me make the switch from PC to PS back in 2020. I was always paying attention to Steam's achievements, but to me personally, they felt less meaningful. Plus, I used to also get games from Epic and other marketplaces, and it annoyed me so much that all my games and trophies were spread across different launchers, with some that didn't have an achievement system at all.

gta online is a bit better now its still not pefect players still blow u up but now u can't go into pasvvaive mode in a wapaonizeed vehicle and the mark two now has a cooldown timer so players have to wait to spwaon it in game and u can't go into passvie mode if u just engage in cobat with a other player

Trophies aren’t as interesting that achievements are. For me anyway. When I log on to my Xbox dashboard I can see straight away I have 116,000 achievements. On the PS the trophy count is not on the dashboard. For that reason I don’t find it them that essential. And now you’ve told me that the level gets harder and harder to raise, even less so.

That would actually be a really cool feature! I usually use game lists that come with PSNP+ extension to sort my games to backlog, cleanup, etc. but it would be a cool option to add notes directly to games as well :)

Hi, yes, because before level 100 you'd need 60 points per level (2 silver), but between level 100 and 200 it becomes 90 aka 3 silver. P.S After level 200 it becomes even steeper ;)

I just bought ps5 and after 20 days i have my first 5 platinums. Can say its more addictive than pc idk it just tickles my brain when platinum pops. Anywho i kinda hate the thing that u mentioned leaderboards.. nobody in those are "legit". Those players play that 5 minute games that gives you platinum. In reality you will be happy for what.. 400 platinums? which would place you in bottom of those leaderboards :D i wish they would count only normal games.

There’s that new trend of trophy games on psn that literally give your free platinums, I seen some of the top players on psn profiles buy these cheap garbage throwaway games(I wouldn’t even call them games) that give you free trophies it’s pathetic.

I quit because of the collecting, those are the worst. I was early dude think the first game to have trophies come with it with no update was resistance 2, then I did RE5, then infamous then GOW1-2. After that I was tired of that shit lol like collecting really kills it for me, useless ones like gow your collectibles added health or magic like the gorgan eyes. But then there’s say infamous, where you have to collect 100 shards. Why? For what reason? So I can blown my brains out for no reason? I sometimes get tempted to go back like gow 4 I’m at 82% but then I see collectibles that don’t add any thing. I could probably do MKX-mk1 if I really wanted to only thing I’m missing is like doing a fatality with everyone or playing everyone on every stage type shit.

Its stupid system. Noob with pasive playing of many games have higher level than very good player which have some games at platinum. Platinum trophy should have least 1000 pts.

It's the people who play 100s of 10 minute games stacked with gold trophies and a platinum that benefit from this system. Not the passive players who have earned a lot of trophies through playing naturally.

I need to know how to compare this between xbox because my gamerscore on xbox is 100,015k and my friends on Playstation and his trophy score is 216

Well, there isn't any direct conversion, because PlayStation has about 1200 points per game instead of a 1000, but level 216 is about 22K points, so you have more ;)
