Playtape is demonstrated in this video and I show how different tape formats over the years have brought music portability to us, featuring the Playtape players and tapes and how to refurbish them for years of listening fun.

Had the MGM verison w2hen I was a 10 year old

I got a Playtape 1200 as a very young kid and I still have it! Still works, even after being kicked around a lot. Those machines lasted and lasted, but, as you alluded to, the tapes were crap (that's how they sold more tapes)!

My dad has this and a few carts. I think a few carts he had for it were MGM records releases like one of a Herman's Hermits LP.

do you have any playtapes youd be willing to sell? Need a new cartridge for my Univox Ec-100 tape delay!

This is pretty cool, a format i had never heard of! Checked out players on eBay and they are rather cheap.....however, some tapes can be kind of expensive!

I did consider it! But Playtape sound quality is so mediocre that I sold the units I had on ebay to buy more fun stuff to experiment with!

Interesting. Funny how I never saw or heard of this format until now when I was checking out restoration videos. I have heard of the elcaset because of an old issue of Radio-Electronics. (Maybe cause I wasn't looking for it, but never saw one in person either.)
