Welcome back to our Automation and PLC Series! 🎉
In Part 5, we continue our deep dive into PLC Ladder Programming, focusing on implementing OR and NOT Boolean logic using NO (Normally Open) and NC (Normally Closed) contacts. Building on the concepts from our previous video, we bring these logic gates to life through practical, real-world examples.
🔹 What You'll Learn:
• Understanding OR and NOT Logic in PLCs:
o Learn how to implement OR and NOT Boolean logic using ladder programming.
o Understand the role of NO and NC contacts in creating these logic functions.
• Real-World Application in the Food Processing Industry:
o Scenario 1: How to raise an alarm if any of the two food processing machines fail (OR logic).
o Scenario 2: How to stop the conveyor system when any machine stops, ensuring safety and efficiency.
• Step-by-Step Programming:
o Follow along as we develop the ladder logic diagrams for these scenarios.
o See how ladder programming simplifies complex automation tasks.
🔧 Key Concepts Covered:
• PLC Ladder Programming Basics
• Implementing OR Logic with NO Contacts
• Implementing NOT Logic with NC Contacts
• Developing Control Logic for Automation
• Practical Use of Logic Gates in Industrial Automation
👉 Why Watch This Video?
This video is perfect for beginners and intermediate learners aiming to enhance their understanding of PLC programming and industrial automation. By the end of this tutorial, you'll be able to apply OR and NOT logic in ladder programming to solve real-world automation challenges.

Good evening! Forgive me if I am wrong but I have found some things that hinder my understanding of the terms NO/NC physical contacts and MAKE/BRAKE XIO/XIC internal PLC logical contacts. First, i tend to believe that a circuit is activated when there is some action (pressing a physical button or contact by the user or when the physical relay coil is energised and therefore magnetizes the contacts. Second, i tend to consider the user physical switches and the logical internal contacts of the PLC program as contacts of one state, because that way the brain thinks more simply, while they are two states by definition (double throw). So even in the case of non-activation by the user or PLC program there may be an active circuit/load. With the terms NO/NC I personally like to refer to the user physical buttons or contacts while with the terms XIC/XIO, MAKE/BREAK the logical contacts inside the PLC program that are activated by the user. To what extent am I correct in my words? Thanks!

Yes, why dont we program Input 1 and 2 to directly effect the Conveyor motor instead of going through the alarm first, I assume this is just an example, but in real life would it be better to have both the alarm and the motor on the same Rung in the ladder logic? and would they be in parallel or series... Thank you, let me know what you think

at 3:23: Instead of taking output of the alarm as an input of next rung; can't we do a parallel connection on o/p side of both "ALARM & BELT TO STOP" at first rung? so we can reduce one rung. any suggestions will be appreciated.

Please help me with this ...a green light is on when any maches out of the 3 machines is operational, a buzzer is sounded and the green light is of if any of the 2 machines operate simultaneously, should an attempt be made to operate the third machine while the other 2 are still running the buzzer sound is switched off and the other 2 machines stop , the red light must now come ON untill the system is reset , which alow the running of a maximum of 2 machines at any time again.

On Rung 1, You use contacts as switches to pass the current , so you control them manually. Say, you press ON, that's how they will ACTIVATE since they are Normally open contacts. It also called latching, you don't have to press the switches for long, just touch and go. The second network, which controls the conveyor is always on when the power is ON, it only turns OFF when the alarm is. Remember, this is just a demonstration of how the ladder is constructed for certain functions.

Please help to solve this problem A bottling process for 12 bottles operates as follows: a. Bottles are counted until all 12 are in position for filling (Filling Machine). b. When in position in the carton, the 12 bottles are filled simultaneously for 6.3 seconds. C. After filling, there is a pause of 3.8 seconds for foam to subside. d. The 12 caps are then put on and counted as they are installed (Capping Machine) e. A solenoid (5) then pushes the completed carton of 12 onto a conveyor. f. Conveyor (C) starts running. g. When the completed carton reaches the limit switch (L), that indicates that the carton is out of the "fill" position; the system is then reset for a new group of 12 bottles.

I might have questions....k..... nevermind... I have a question. How do I delete parts of my ladder? I have an image/ladder of a newer machine on my "older" machine (same type of machine just built in different years), it is trying to read a pressure switch that never existed, I need it to read a float switch in the lube pump, not a pressure switch. I am an operator that got asked to fix something I have very basic knowledge of.. who can help?

Can you help draw plc circuit for when PET bottles, pass the sensor on air conveyor the alarm should sound when theres no bottle presence, when bottles are present, it should be quite. Then lastly when no production run, alarm should switch off automatically. This circuit it cant get any signal from any external equipment as modifications are not allowed, the circuitry should remain standard by company protocol.
