This video will show you the sequence of operation and the testing of the final project.
We will apply the five steps to PLC program development to a pick and place robot example. The example will use a BRX PLC communicating to Factory IO (3D Software Simulator). Developing the PLC program is a process that can be clearly defined. In our series on the five steps to PLC program development we have done some similar practical examples.
Here is a review of the steps:
1.Define the task

3.Develop a logical sequence of operation
4.Develop the PLC program
5.Test the program

@@ACCautomation ahh i see. thank you for the links. Currently i am working on Omron NX series with Factory IO using MOdbus TCP. it can write signal to Factory io but cannot read from Factory io to Omron PLC. Sill searching why. Thanks for the links.

@@nurhananiahmadpuaad1838 I know that the Omron controller must be in monitor mode in order to write to the memory locations. This may help you out. Regards Garry

What type of education would you need to get a job doing this? would you be an automation engineer?

Hi Gonzo, By trade, I am a Electronic Engineering Technologist. This was a three year program in a Canadian college. I was fortunate to work for Omron and Siemens in Canada with industrial equipment. Automation specialist, engineer have been some of my titles. There is no set standard for programming PLC's. Usually you are hired in a trade and PLC program just becomes part of the responsibility in looking after that part of the equipment. I have taught Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Electricians and Mechanical Millwrights. Regards, Garry

Ah, I'm currently studying Electrical Power Engineering Technology in the US. What kind of side projects/skills could I develop on my own while in school that would make me competitive for PLC/automation work when I graduate in a couple of years? Thanks for the replies.

The Do-More Designer Software also comes with a simulator. You could also use the simulator in this application to communicate Modbus TCP to the Factory IO scene.
