Peter, that is a big plate. Don’t try and fill it with steak and fries That’s the biggest charger I’ve ever seen. Well done on the auction.

I absolutely love your two pekinese dogs chinese painting. Will look amazing with your Asian porcelain Collection. Let us know if you find out who painted it since it is a very accomplished artist. It looks like it may need a little restoration for two vertical black lines that I seem to see in it (maybe from background glue or humidity) but sadly I have the same problem on an important japanese scroll painting of mine and I find it next to impossible to find anyone who can restore these paintings properly in Montreal. If you know of someone who can restore chinese and japanese artwork on paper please let me know.

It seems that the appreciation of antiques is in a downward spin, the young people are getting so brainwashed dumbed down and just don't understand what efforts went into making these things.

Sadly, kids and many under the age of 40 have never been toaught the importance of and appreciating history...nor cultures around the world. We've gotten a couple enerations oof total idiots.

@@PeterCombs Fortunately everything is cyclical and as we enter the nadir, we can also look forward to a resurgence in sensibility. This Sunday morning, and the first Sunday morning of every non-festive month, there is an absolutely spectacular mineral-collecting fair in The School of Mining Engineering in Ríos Rosas Street (Calle Ríos Rosas) in Madrid (absolutely spectacular building inside and outside) which is not 200 metres from my home. Both exhibitors and buyers / collectors alike include a great number of young people and their level of preparation is impressive. They arrive at the fair extremely well informed and having done in-depth homework on what they are selling or what they are hoping to buy. The old-hands on the sell-side are surprised by the level of preparation of this new generation and delighted to generously pass on their knowledge. We do not yet have things operating to quite the same level with regard to Chinese antiques collecting, but I can see the incipient signs. When Chinese antiquities collecting here really does come on stream, I have every confidence that the new generation will absorb knowledge like a sponge and get into the finest granularity of the details pertinent to making informed decisions in the collation of their collections. In Ireland we have a Gaelic expression which I recite from memory and which may have some orthographic inaccuracy "Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sé". This loosely translates as "Praise youth and it will correspond (develop itself accordingly)".

@@only1potato873 thank God for that, I always enjoy talking to young people who appreciate the quality of antiques, the furniture is solid wood marvels, think about it, one to One fifty years old and up to the daily challenge of use, try that with a IKEA furniture.
