😢i am wondering about the authenticity of this large pice, not a composition usual to Castiglione.
@ChristinePallascio21 сағат бұрын
That large wallpaper was signed Lang Shining which is the Chinese name of Giuseppe Castiglione.
@PeterCombs21 сағат бұрын
As far as I know, Langshining never painted any wallpaper ever. Someone might have added it, but he never did this kind of painting. This is an export item, Langshining was a court artist and advisor.

Long ago I wanted to Like a video, and a box popped up, saying "This video will be added to your list of Likes." I don't want anybody keeping a record of what I do on the internet, so I don't like, dislike or subscribe to videos.

Lots of interesting things in this one! Glad to see some eBay at the end. Why has eBay been mostly abandoned or relegated to a minute or two? I love the eBay coverage personally.

The blue and white cut down piece at Drouot is the bottom of a Gu vase, they did say it in the description, you can also see the bit of bulge on the top of it.

We visited Boston MFA last year, specifically to view ancient Chinese art. Thank you the great review tour! They also have absolutely wonderful Han to Tang tomb and Buddhist sculptures one can study up close. The Han grave carvings are especially fine and detailed. We have the Freer in DC, but Boston MFA is worthy of a visit.

Peter, thank you for a great video. Photography was clear and your ongoing commentary so fluid. A special thanks form those of us who live in Europe and my not get to the museum in person. One question, why were staff concerned about flash/lighting in relation to porcelain?

I never thought I'd develop the connoisseur's eye, but that central dragon at 19:42 just doesn't look Chinese. It looks like a stripper wiggling its head around and giving the audience a challenging stare. That is a very modern image.

Peter, seems you forgot the white Dehua Guan Yin statue which should be on the other side of the big Bodhisattva statue. The Dehua Guan Yin was the first Chinese antique the museum ever received. 😀

Hi Peter, Thanks for your tremendous efforts in making this wonderful video! It’s the best new year gift to us, loyal fans of yours. The collection of Song wares in MFA are particularly special. I spent 5 days last year in MFA for studying them, and still have strong desire to revisit them again. Again big big thanks to you Peter for doing such a wonderful job in introducing MFA to us. Looking forward to its sequence

Hello from Minnesota. The early 1900's were a great period for museum building. The Minneapolis Institute of Arts was first began life in 1883 and opened its current beautiful, neoclassical building in 1915, only 6 years after Boston's current home. Its Asian art collection is also amazing. Come see us some time Peter!
