Innistrad remastered is terrible at its current price point. The cards are NOT worth 100$ more per Collector display compared to standard legal collectors. Dropping prices after release will cause sealed product to be even less palatable.

@@PleasantKenobi I think the opposite is true at this point. Value wise play boosters just don't hold up. Collector boosters (European market) have already gone up by 20% since preoderders initially became available. Play boosters? Well, those boxes are down €5 from the initial preorder price. I can also still pick up a RVR draft booster box for €20 less than they were offered last year. Collector boosters? Not a chance. This trend isn't at all limited to reprint sets. Limited printruns for CBBs and the collector booster only treatments have made a mark on the market. RVR, BLB, MH3, FDN, LCI, WOE... The trend is clear. I can easily pick up plax boxes for standard sets for right around release pricing for a long time after release, while collector boosters spike into nirvana. The high price of the box has an effect on the cards that are only obtainable in thse boxes. If you can preorder Collector Boosters for a solid price it appears to be the best value you can get.

I feel like another big issue with the set is the fact that ALL 5 of the retro only reprints are on that list of 23/35 top 5 reprints which will drastically lower the pull rates on them. The fact that they removed the chance for retro foils from the draft packs also doesn't help

Ironically I got a playset of Caverns last spring/summer when I traded in a playset of Sorin, Imperious Bloodlords before they got banned in Pioneer. 4 for 4 straight trade doesn't seem so bad. At the time I was losing about $7-$10 per Sorin. I had bought them for about $10 a piece for a silly Ghalta and Mavren deck before Vein Ripper was printed.

Aside from bonus sheets, there’s no other reprint set in 2025 and this is the first reprint set since RVR this time last year. I think that had an impact on why non-Innistrad cards are in the set, alongside adding cards to balance the limited environment of course.

I think you're right that people wouldn't have been sated if Cavern and Parallel Lives were in the set, it's just fuel to the fire that is that it's way too expensive. Remastered sets really shouldn't be more than a dollar per pack more expensive than a standard set. Why they feel the need to gouge prices on play boosters when they created collector boosters specifically for that isn't a mystery, it's because they can, but it is very annoying.

Cavern didnt budge when it got reprinted because its already the cheapest its ever been this decade, and only got reprinted at mythic. For a card that sees play in multiple formats, is a commander staple, and only ever sees chase slot or mythic reprints its price is reasonable. I bought my playest for humans when it was $80 a pop, and I'm happy its cheaper so other people can afford it, but it seems a bit wild to think it'll budge any lower unless it saw a downshift to rare.

I used consider myself a whale, or at least a fairly large dolphin, but not anymore. I used to buy multiple boxes and bundles of every set, now I usually buy a bundle to get the spin down counter, and then get singles of cards I really want. It’s a shame because I loved the randomness of cracking packs and the excitement of opening something spicy, but it’s just not worth it anymore. The risk/reward is out of my comfort zone.

Regarding Parallel Lives specifically: they may not want to reprint it because it's a very similar card effect to Doubling Season and they just did a massive reprint of Doubling Season in Foundations. It might be a deliberate choice to throttle the big green enchantment reprints.

Unless I black out for a second, there is another elephant in the room, where is Greymond, Avacyn's stalwart? We have more innistrad themed cards outside of the actual sets with the innistrads blocks, so this looked like the best chance to print out the universe within cards but none of them were included, either from The Walking Dead or Stranger Things, this feels like a big miss to me personally.

I think the best criticism I've about this set is the lack of 'mid value' pieces, or basically bulky-ish rares and such that would make you not feel like you just wasted your money. Like, Ravnica remastered had multiple slots available to get multiple shock lands, all of which easily made an average pack feel worth off that pull alone. Innistrad predominately has appeal due to big mythic reprints, and the mid value rares are worth predominately less. Even the slow lands have been slowly dropping in price due to pioneer being removed from 2025's RCQ rotation. I'm personally torn because there's still plenty of things I'm quite excited for, such as the hermit druid reprints, and some of the alt arts for cards like Thraben Inspector, but at the same time, there's no planet where I'd buy a pack for just the chance to pull a cool version of a .50 cent card right? I'm excited for others to open these in bulk, and to buy their singles that they don't want, and I honestly feel a but scummy thinking that.

These products are 270 CAD for a play booster box which is 155 GBP, it's insanely priced, the cards they missed, especially Cavern are the cards that are crazy in demand and the ones they reprinted are only valuable because they're old and not reprinted, I expect those prices to fall a lot. There isn't very much value in the set and a lot of commander cards. I was struggling with finding out what was actually in the set and what was available in which product but I got corrected on the last video. I tried to get a new perspective and really think about it but you can buy a Sheoldred for half the price and it's going to be worth more than what you'll get from an entire play booster box so I don't think I'm off. Also, those packs were absolutely stacked, it doesn't cost them anything to do so and makes it more appealing when they're doing an ad. Edit: Like they can reprint commander cards that are valuable because they're old and the price will crash but keep competitive staples as chase cards, it makes it look like they've put value into the set but whereas you need 3-4 caverns for a competitive deck in most cases that you want cavern, you only need 1 Emrakul or 1 Avacyn or 1 Behemoth for commander, also Grizzy has a price tag because mythic and a huge effect but it's not played in anything and banned in commander, I don't think that's going to hold it's value either but it looks good to have a 20$ card in a reprint set, nobody wants it.

@@PleasantKenobi According to the "collecting Innistrad remastered" website, movie poster art cards are ONLY available in collector boosters, meaning Avacyn, and any other "only movie poster" cards, of which there are some, are only in collector boosters. Then, even more are on a special retro sheet, and not part of the set proper. Such bonus sheet only reprints will do very little for prices. I'll admit, I wasn't looking to get any more Innistrad so this doesn't affect me personally. I have a LOT of that set, including a full OG block cube. However, seeing how many cards were put on special sheets instead of in the set proper is disappointing. Edit: Avacyn does also appear on the retro sheet, something I missed previously. My point about certain reprints only being on select sheets (the retro or the full art one) though does stand, even if I was wrong about some being poster only.

I wouldn't count special treatment like store Championship or Secret Lair as a meaningful reprint. I wouldn't even count those retro only reprint as "reprint". It's like those Mana Crypt "reprint" in Lost Cavern of Ixalan. (Cavern of Soul is fine, of cause) Tbh have them or not having them almost insignificant in term of price change. The whole point about reprint is to keep the price not going crazy, those limited quantity and time hardly count as one. In the end, just not buy product. If they have this expensive box with such a small pay-off. I wouldn't waste my dollars on it.

Zombie Mike, Cavern of Souls, Parallel Lives, OG Angel Trio, Siguarda's Aid, etc. I was really hoping for a retro frame Mikaeus the Unhallowed or retro frames of any of the other cards I mentioned. I live in Nz and this set is just too expensive for me to really enjoy. A single pack is $15 vs usual $12 and a box is going for $450 (Roughly $100 more than Bloomburrow, Duskmourn and Foundations). I got into Magic last year and fell in love with Innistrad and I REALLY want to open a ton of these packs but god does it not feel good looking at these prices.

Also the fact that there less new arts found on the high value reprints compared to other reprint sets like double masters, commander masters and even timespiral remaster makes the set less valuable for collectors and its not just monetarily. Yes there are the beautiful movie showcase frames but there's very few 'borderless' hits compared with ravnica remastered which has borderless shocks while the slow lands only have base treatment. The missing cards are more apparent because the lack of value in what IS there. The set feels like Showcase or bust, the cards just are Timmy commander cards because all the innastrad cards are power crept out of modern and other 60 card formats and this is the ONLY non standard set we're getting this year since we're getting 3 UB sets. If their reprint sets aren't perfect and they're the only set we get for a whole year people are going to be more dissapointed since that may be the only set they might want to engage with especially since we are getting 2 theme sets and only 1 classic MTG set in standard. That said I like Spelljammer and 40k, the Space themed set is right up my alley and I think 2/3 of the UB sets will have art and styles that fit right in to MTGs stuff.

75 non-land cards from VOW and MID as well as only 86 non-land cards from original innistrad block. No borderless or special art lands and only the basics are getting old border. Of the cards that didn't get reprinted from innistrad block there are some iconic nostalgia pieces like Champion of the Parish, Falkenrath Aristocrat and Immerwolf that aren't getting reprinted here. Only 6 cards are getting the special border treatments from VOW and MID. Of the big hits you can get in INR, Avacyn and Craterhoof are boring commander wincons, Cathars' Crusade creates board states that many people like to avoid having to deal with just on the strength on the amount of bookkeeping that needs to be done and Griselbrand is banned in commander. Then there's big daddy Markov, an eminence commander which is a mechanic most of the player base consider a mistake. As a vampire player who bought the Edgar precon, I took him apart because the deck was boring. I'm going to buy singles from this set and I hope the draft format is fun but the set as a whole doesn't excite me.

The reprints are mostly good. No cavern is disappointing, but at least it did get a meaningful reprint in caver, and it dropped from 60 to 35ish so its not the end of the world. But the set is missing good 5-10 dollar reprints as most of the reprints are all big mythics.

The weakness with your analysis (which I think is really good and thank you for being positive in a video) is that value needs to be looked at alongside “iconic”. Parallel Lives, Cavern of Souls and Exquisite Blood had to be reprinted if you’re remastering Innistrad. Those two zombies are in the top 10 zombies ever. Grafdiggers Cage already had a movie poster secret lair this could be missed. So value isn’t everything. I think they needed to make Caverns a ultra rare movie poster with Edgar (it’s been reprinted into the ground) and the rest mentioned just needed movie poster versions and just be in the set no matter how rare. The complaints would have been much lower. People want the cards in their commander deck to all look the same.

Caverns got reprinted in Ixilan yes but it is STILL a near $40 card. Craterhoof is getting reprinted yes but it’s getting a speciality retro border only available in collector boosters. Lilliana getting a new retro border treatment as well. It just seems like they’re trying to milk as much out of the collector boosters as possible while still harshly limiting which highly desired reprints are available. Especially when considering Edgar Markov of all things is in the set, what is the realistic justification for not having cavern of souls other then holding it over to another set likely just to make it a collector booster specialty art exclusive again?

I think the reason people feel like reprints are missing, are because the Second most popular format (Modern) has been power crept so hard from MH set that the only realistic innistrad reprints feels like commander only reprints. It is hard to reprint modern staples right now as most of them comes from 4-5 sets.

I think the main issue with "Remastered" sets is that they need to decide what they are and get people on board with that vision/purpose. To be clear I'm not really for or against this set I probably won't buy sealed but a fair part of that is I don't really have much nostalgia for Innistrad and have a lot of the chase cards so I'm mostly looking for a few singles. But if they are meant to be reprint focused master style sets then you probably want a good batting average of the best cards from the sets because there aren't that many great cards to talk about when the pool to choose from is like 4 or 5 sets, this was admittedly also the problem with Masters sets where you have a premium set and then if you throw in a bunch of worthless or borderline worthless bulk the set isn't doing a great job of selling that these are universally high value cards and thus justify a higher price. In Masters sets that choice to throw in bulk was purely a choice because they had the whole of Magic history to work with but in a Remastered set it's built in because there aren't that many chase cards to work with. Now in fairness these are priced considerably lower than masters packs were(relative to normal pack pricing) so that can justify it to a pretty large degree. If I really wanted to evaluate how "good" or "bad" the deal is I'd probably want an Estimated Value per pack number and compare that to the price per pack retail and compare those relative to ordinary sets and to old masters sets but that would be not only a lot of work it also requires that I know the ratio that packs are seeded with various card types and I don't care that much. The other option is hey this is just a normal kitbash set it's about the feels and the nostalgia of playing with these old cool cards in a draft. Yeah you're probably not getting more value per pack than an average set but that's not the point. In that case 4/5 is probably good assuming they don't miss any of the old format allstars but the overall price should reflect that this isn't a premium product it should be priced at or below the ordinary booster price because it isn't there for value it's just a draft set.

It’s worth considering whether they honestly felt that those omissions would worsen the draft experience. I doubt it’s all due to price or all due to gameplay.

Cavern of Souls has made me furious for years. The reason isn't just because it's never been printed to demand, it's because it makes every tribal deck better. Its few 60-card applications and the unnecessary scarcity make it a $30 card, even though it would be an auto-include in every jank tribal deck where the total cost of buying the on-tribe creatures isn't $30.

(before watching) What happened to Cavern? It's being held for the next high ticket release. More expensive cards might have made it in, but Cavern is a land, so it has more utility, and is more of a selling draw for high end packs.

I feel like... costs are going to go up for product, and people are going to be unhappy about this; and enfranchised players are bound to be less than enthused about remastered sets, unless they want to draft. Innistrad sets have typically been awesome to draft, so Wizards has probably pushed this particular remastered set for limited. And yes, it's shrinkflation.

I don't have a strong feeling one way or another about it. There are some good reprints. But I will say that *for me*, the fact that they could have reprinted a card that is expensive *and* will be in Standard for another couple years feels like a miss to me. So yeah, Cavern of Souls having been in Ixalan actually makes me feel like it deserved a reprint *more*, not less.

I think an issue is that the majority of "good" cards are at mythic, and getting a chunk of them will be very unlikely. Thus getting a box makes it less "worth it" in that sense as well. It is the price per pack that is bad, and regularly getting worse with Wizards, and that makes it worse for a draft format, as well as reprint sets shouldn't be more expensive than normal ones, from the "amount of work involved" sense.

People default to believing, “WotC is going to squeeze maximum price out of a product offering the rock-bottom minimum value that will get them the sales.” And WotC does nothing to correct that impression with reprints that won’t affect singles prices due to them playing printing games. WotC’s image is literally that of Scrooge. Regularly making the buying experiences for the average customer 25-35% EV doesn’t help with that. Anointed Procession being through the roof means the lack of Parallel Lives hurts even more.

Including Cavern would have done nothing to bring down the price because wotc has it printed as a mythic. Go look at tcg or ck, the price has pretty much stayed the same for "normal" prints with only the special treatments driving prices up. It is literally dockside all over again.

Like you said, its intentionally obtuse. I don't know what percentage of the "retro only" rares/mythics are going to exist comapred to the regular rares/mythics or the regular+retro rares/mythics, and that's before even considering foils. Heck, the retro-frame rares could be twice as common as a given regular rares, and I still wouldn't know. But what I do know, is that it "feels bad" to see several of the bigest name/highest value reprints be exclusive to one of the "special" treatments. It "feels" like they are intentionally keeping those prices inflated in a set that many players want exclusively to lower the prices of those cards. And if that's someone's primary (or even just a high) priority for the set, its no wonder the set seems bad to them. If you remove the retro only cards from your high value reprint count, it starts to look worse. Is it fair to remove those from that count? I don't know. Its obtuse. But because WotC are making them feel rarer and special, it "feels" like they shouldn't be counted.

270 usd here if I try to buy it through amazon and import it to argentina. Given what happened with previous sets I expect to find it around 300-400 USD in LGS... yeah I probably will skip this one lol

I can't fathom why the only serialized card and with three different prints is Edgar... why do an Innistrad remaster and make Avacyn only a footnote like everything else. Very sad to see.

You might get to this in a bit, but even some of the good reprints are only present as special arts/alt frames, which probably isn't going to help prices much at all Edit: he got to it lol

They are seeded to people the send them to. They know you are going to open them on film and that gives them more money if they look like they are full of hits. If you buy your own check the difference in value. I have zero proof other than I am a idiot with an opinion on the internet haha :D

Boosters are too expensive to justify adding the bad mythic and rare cards they included instead of the missing hitters. Also missing the walking dead universe within cards.

I love Innistrad BUT that cost hurts and I was anticipating the cards that are actually missing so yeah I can’t even advocate them original Innistrad was when I entered magic and haven’t stopped since but the magic product is confusing especially since some cards are exclusive to the collectors booster or in a special slot in packs which makes it hard to feel you might pull something amazing that and this is the last time we’re getting 36 packs in a box due to shrink flation and boy do I don’t want to hate this I love this but also I had a financial issue this month due to circumstances out of my control like the weather etc and I was going to buy this but now can’t and I looked deeper when I saw the price that’s all I can say love set hate it’s hard to reasonably afford it me and my playgroup

@PleasantKenobi Arcane magic exists *only* on Kamigawa. Nowhere else in the multiverse that we've seen. Through the Breach should *not* be in this set.

Although CCs seem to like them, I don't think any of the remaster sets were great hits so far from the community reception tbh. So it might be brand damage at this point.
