Pleasantview Pandemic! TRAGEDY Strikes the Burb Family!

Thanks for watching everyone! SPOILER:..... > > > > > I know there's some concern about corruption from a child dying. That's not the case. A child's GHOST CAN cause corruption, but not if you know what you're doing. There's a bug/weird use of game mechanics which can cause residential lots with ghost children to spawn universal npcs like grim/therapist/witch doctor outside of their intended use, which CAN corrupt your game. -When child guests are on a residential lot and it gets late at night, the game picks a random member of their family to come over and say 'it's really late, i'm bringing marsha home'. For playables it's a member of their household, for townies it's another townie. -There's no check in the code to see if the child that's on the lot is a ghost or not. So if a child ghost appears, the game goes, 'oh, there's a kid on the lot that's not part of the family and it's really late, better bring a member of their family over to take them home' -All dead sims are removed from their original family and dumped in the 'default' family. The only sims there are dead sims and all the universal/object npcs like grim/therapist/witch doctor -The game knows it can't use a dead sim for this job. So it has these weird npcs come over to your lot to 'take the kid ghost home', and they act strangely because they're not intended to show up like that. Because these are universal npcs, if anything does go wrong with them it's going to necessitate a full game reinstall (they're the same npc in every neighbourhood). The simple fix is to move child ghosts to community lots, this problem only happens on residential lots. I move all my Sims to a community lot cemetery after death, so there's no issues!

Thanks for the explanation, Cindy! Nina Caliente's child died once in my neighborhood, but I always move Sims' grave to a community lot. At the time, I had no idea that children's ghosts can cause corruption! Also, I'm really glad that you came back with your let's play series :)

And all just a matter of the particular fears they happened to have at the moment, if they didn’t have a fear of a death of a family member that’s probably why? That’s one tweak in the game that would be good - if Sims lost aspiration points when a family member or loved one died, regardless of whether they had a current fear of it or not. Maybe they lose more if it’s a particular fear, but always some would make more sense!

What I love about the let’s plays on this channel is that they’re so unique; not only in terms of the gameplay style, but in that the commentary is different. A lot of simmer’s let’s plays play out like a conversation with friends, but I really appreciate that in Cindy’s let’s play she does a continuous commentary about the family and their personalities. It makes me feel a lot more connected to the households this way.

yo that happened to me in the original sims game, my sims child got sick and coughed for days and then she dropped DEAD!! i was so upset bc i hadn't known kids could die, id only ever lost adults to The Pool of Doom 😒

The kids are not in your family anymore, so theyre not meant to be there. Theyre on curfew. So! NPCs can show up on your lot, who really REALLY shouldn't be there. Like the witch doctor. Which will corrupt your game

Apparently I wasn't expecting THAT when i saw "tragedy" in the caption. It's always sad when sims die, but when it's a child - it's a real shock. I haven't experienced children death in my game, but seeing this is terrible. And I actually understand your decisions to make some expections to your rules - like, if a sim is really into paranormal and becomes obsessed with the dead family member/friend, it makes sense if they want to or even do ressurect their loved one. I hope the Burbs will recover physically and mentally and this pandemic will be over soon! Thank you for this letsplay!

During the party John kept losing aspiration points because a family member got sick. Family sims roll that fear a lot. Also the "have a good reputation" want is actually fairly easy. Sims only roll that when their reputation is pretty good and if you have a mod that allows reputation changes on residential lots (I don't remember if you use that one) just have him appreciate...admire a sim a couple of times. That boosts reputation by a lot.

I usually give Sims a Second Want Lock because It is my Preference so I imagine the second Locked Want as being "Lesser or Greater" Depending on what it is. like I imagine a Sim who wants to Have their First Kiss but also Resurrect a Family Member, they can do so. but also. Sometimes my Sims will Roll a want to "Cast a Spell" Being a Witch or Warlock or the Likes, so the Sim might want to Use a Spell to Reverse Death.
