Rescued last night, Mr Alex was found hanging close to the ground in a small shrub and we think he was more than likely clipped by a car.
As an elderly gentleman, Alex is sporting a few old war wounds but in the absence of any fresh injuries and with all limbs working perfectly, we suspect a collision of some sort.
As gentle as a kitten, Mr Alex is now enjoying bed rest, a full bowl of fresh fruit and a tummy full of juice.

Well, they are ALL mammals, but the ones here in the USA are the insect-eating variety, are butt-ugly up close and are known to carry rabies, so they don't rate high on the popularity scale.

We had little bats living in my attic growing up in northern US. (Wisconsin) They used to get in the house occasionally, so I've seen them close up. Ours looked like little hamsters with wings. They were actually really cute. And in Southern US (Texas) we had enormous bat colonies. They ate so many bugs that we could go outside without being eaten alive by mosquitoes. They are celebrated every year in Austin Texas with a big festival. 💖

I will reignite your fears. Bats are mammals and thus closely related to us humans. Which means diseases that we get sick from, they can carry. But, because bats fly they have hollow bones and thus do not create antibodies in their bone marrow like us humans. So Bats will shrug off a disease like Ebola as a common cold but still be carriers and capable of infecting humans. With other words, stay away from Bats unless you're a professional and has the right immunizations.

this video is very special to me, as it reminds me of my late cat. we had her for about 7 months (august 2022-march 2023). she looked like a bat, and one of her favorite toys was a catnip banana. we rescued her from the local shelter, knowing she was old and in ill health, and she lived out her last few months in a loving home. we miss her very much, but we can't wait to accept the next cat into our family.
