Back in my holiday repping days in Mexico, I went on an excursion to some underground caverns you had to swim in to. We followed the guide rope along for some time, mostly in complete darkness aside from torches, and eventually the guide stopped and built up this big moment of tension, and then told us to point our torches at the ceiling and look up. We all did this, and there were literally thousands of bats about 15ft above our heads, just chilling there. My instant reaction was to freak out, but then it hit me just how fricking adorable they are, and I've loved them ever since. Bram Stoker has a lot to answer for!

We had no idea how it got into our cabinet, but I was the primary caretaker for the week we had him. If you’re not appropriately vaccinated for rabies, that could’ve been a death sentence for the little one. Once bat flew into my room, before I opened all windows, turn off the light,get out of the room etc, he managed to stuck in my hair for a moment. Not a nicest feeling, I get why people avoid them. He is so sweet. They are extremely intelligent. I had an old male Grey-headed flying fox come into care after a nasty power line injury. He was in a suitably smallish cage so he could not move around too much during recovery. I had to medicate him with a liquid dropper twice a day. After.the first struggle he realised sed I was there to help and from then on when it was time for his meds he would come to the cage door and open his mouth.
