In less than a month, the Edmondson Village community will lose its only supermarket, Giant.
The loss will have a direct impact on many of the people in the area whose only form of transportation is walking.
"There's a lot of people that come here that are not familiar with any other place. So, we're [going to] have to figure something else out," says Steve who lives in Edmondson Village.

Right, what are children, Elderly, & Handicapped or medically ill relatives, who are also dirt poor & barely able to even get food to eat, medical help, or any real education really going to be able to do against GROUPS of physically violent, aggressive, psychotic men with guns & knives/machetes? This is what makes up most (like 95%) of these families in underprivileged areas where police deliberately do not help/respond to or protect the citizens in the area, (especially if those callering for help are not white). They have no money or any outside help so any of the vulnerable groups I named never get a chance to move/get away from the criminals, or even *safely* report them. This is everywhere, & the exact same can be said about the Italian, Irish, Albainian, Russian & Mexican Mafias/Cartels, & Street Gangs worldwide. Most times, the 'Relatives' of these dangerous criminals are the very first victims of the violence/killing/enslavement & Trafficking, so are pretty powerless to stop it, let alone try to escape with their life.

Why is it closings? Is it because of shoplifting, crime and/or drugs, or is just not profitable because of the income of the residents in the area. There was a Neighborhood Walmart built in a low income area of St. Petersburg Florida a couple of years ago. It shutdown because they were throwing away large amounts of fresh produce daily, shoplifting, loitering in the parking lot, the homeless would stand around the entrance asking for money, people would walk up to asking for money while loading groceries in your car. Other businesses were planned to occupy the other storefronts but that fell through when Walmart left. I’m Just wondering

Although it was not mentioned in the video, why is Giant closing? If it's due to high crime, then Giant has to close. Giant is a business, not a charity. It cannot keep losing money to shoplifters and other criminals. Inner city crime is caused by a breakdown of the family. It goes like this: 1) Mommy gets pregnant. She has children with half a dozen different men. 2) Daddy is dead, in prison, or takes off for parts unknown. 3) The child has inadequate education, inadequate nutrition, inadequate health care, and inadequate supervision. 4) The child gets into trouble. 5) The cycle starts all over again. 6) What chance does the kid have? Elvis Presley sang a song about this: "In the Ghetto" in 1968. Many academics study but do not solve the problems. They put their findings in a nice book with an attractive cover and submit it to the government. Nobody reads, uses, or understands the book. Bureaucrats got into the act in 1965 with their "Great Society" programs. Almost all of these programs ended in failure. What is the solution to inner city crime? My partial solution: 1) Give tax breaks to companies that create good jobs in these areas. 2) Stop Outsourcing! 3) Vote RED.

Every time a grocery store closes up and moves out, we hear about ‘inner- city food -deserts’. This has been the mantra for thirty years or more. I wonder why the ‘community’ never seizes the opportunity to open their own grocery store? Certainly, with all the government subsidies for minority owned businesses, they could get funding to start a grocery store. But alas, they know what would happen and decide the risk is too great.
