Both of her parents ruined Chise. Her father left and took her little brother, the one other person that was their shield, leaving them defenseless. Her mother tried so hard, but this one act, even if it was an act of insanity, scarred Chise and left her all alone with no one to turn to. They had their reasons, I'm sure, it its still their fault.

I think you interpreted it wrongly, assuming you think the mother said that out of hate. My take on it is that the mother said that because she feels so much grief that she couldn't take care of her.

ET Ateliers I heard Chise’s mom did share the same ability as her to attract demons/monsters, so to be fair he was trying to keep his son. Especially when some sort of demon cat stood over her brother’s bed giving the dad a threatening look
