I'm involved with Hotpit Autofest, and I've done media and crewing for Formula Drift teams for many years. We've done Thursday Night Drift, Sideways Sunday, and many other events at Irwindale since the mid 2000's. The track has been a consistent provider as a place for us to celebrate automotive culture. no sob story but growing up life was rough. nothing made sense. nothing was complete. I was going every Saturday event while in HS and it was the only place i can sit alone and feel complete. family never had the finances to get me into it so i had to watch. learn. talk to others who share the same enjoyment of racing. this track saved me mentally in so many ways. now that i am older with kids of my own they enjoy it so much. only been a few times but they loved it. wife got me two 20 lap sessions for the racing school a few years back and list of best moments of my life. Now i have a good paying job and hoped one day one of my own kids will share the interest in racing and i can give them a hobby dream i always wanted but never got to have, its more than a track. more than just property space. still hard to believe that it will not longer be standing there. I got my tickets though. Was not there day one, but ill be there on their very last day.

Orange show speedway in San Bernardino maybe shutting down as well. And it's been around since 1947. Being a motocross racer since I was 8 and now 35 our community in California has seen this same issue. Saddleback MX, Newport Dunes, Carlsbad Raceway, Milestone MX, Piru, Zaca Station, Lake Elsinore, Starwest, Racetown 395, Competitive Edge all closed in SoCal. Southern California went from the epicenter of moto to only having maybe 6 tracks now. California was built on racing cars and bikes and it's losing it's soul to greedy politicians.

Sad to see ! I remember speedway 605 right at lower Azusa & 605 freeway. Then Irwindale dragstrip off the 210 freeway where Miller brewery is today, then Ontario motor speedway. very sad to see this .

I worked and raced there for many years until it closed the first time. Can thank the slimy gm for that one. I am honestly surprised it has survived this long. Short term/ single year leases dont really bring confidence to racers, sponsors, and investors. The track is built on a landfill that is compacted wrong or filled with unstable materials or something like that. Supposedly only certain things could be built on the land but i am sure money will change that if it hasn't already.

Came here in 2022 for Formula Drift, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. Sucks its closing, just imagine a kid who knows they got huge talent in the sim, knows a load about working on cars, has a huge passion for this sport, but parents dont have the funds to go anywhere to get to know the people in racing. I drive by the site where the Fontana race track used to be, the drag strip is gone and there is a giant warehouse where the parking lot used to be. I live in Fontana and I watched the track being built years ago I remember when it was Kaiser Steel, watching all the cement trucks nd constuction crews coming in and making it a race track, for the past year or so I've seen the demo of the parking lots and the warehouse going up. I worked as a mechanic since was 15 and worked in automotive media for a few years and retired during the pandemic not surprising I've seen the Fontana-Bloomington-Rialto area go from rural to urban and now industrial-warehouse. Had my fun at the various tracks, events and races even rode my motorcycle on the former Pirate Speedway track years ago.

Great video I have grown up as a young boy in los angeles from norwalk california my dad and his friends got me in two cars and as growing up they took a way terminal island and then fontana ca and now Irwin dale I've had many race cars from 10 second Chavelle to mustangs, we need at least to save this one to stay open for the community and kids all these tracks offer learning and most of all it's safe and legal . I used to race quarter midgets at Orange Show Speedway, and a few years ago they paved over it the quarter midget track to make it an amazon parking lot. Irwindale Speedway took in the quarter midget club and let them build a track in the parking lot. Quarter midgets is kids racing ages 5-16. People wouldn’t stand for that if it was kids baseball or soccer.

I'm from Victoria BC Canada and we lost our track 😢 Western Speedway ! started in 1950 (dirt) the original track was Langford Speedway (asphalt) started around 1932 ? this track only ran the BIG CARS ! The majority of the California's that complain about racing are not actually California's they're transplants usually from the East Coast. The majority of true native California's truly enjoy racing born in 1953 I watched every decent racetrack close Only to become new housing tracks for developers and there greedy pockets. New home construction is way down in California so they're doing anything they can to free up land. That's the reason Irwindale Is doomed one more time. If we lose it I guarantee it we'll never see another drag race or decent drag strip in Southern California currently we have to go to Palmdale and I'm sure that 1 is on the best for demise as well. Sorry for my gloomy outlook but I've seen it too many times.

Racetracks in Southern California cannot survive because the land is much more valuable than the track. Every track has closed and even Willow Springs is for sale. The Huth family wants to move from racing. It will take someone rich who loves racing. The problem is there is already a private track in Thermal, CA with an airport close by for private jets. The Billionaire Roger’s family own that tract and they sell memberships at fee of $175,000 with monthly dues of $2000 and you can build a home next to the track if you like at a min cost of $5,000,000. Everything there is high end and close to Palm Springs so there is golf close by for the rich too. You can pay from garage space too. This takes away the kind of rich buyer who wants to buy a race track. I know Irwindale is an Oval so that makes it hard too. I hope some NASCAR lover does buy the track.

What it is you have these developers Ross Perot's sun is the reason why you lost California raceway because he bought it and turned it all to warehouses now you have this tiny little track which nobody's going to want to go to and eventually I'll get torn down and turned into warehouse as well. Then you lost the drag strip next to it completely so now you have people street racing and you wonder why because there's no place to race in Southern California even on the freaking desert you had a racetrack out in LA county and what happened to that it close to so it doesn't matter they just want to tear every race track down and it is irritating as hell.

I didn't notice the name of the company that owns the racetrack. In something like this, having a contact person to reach out to and register your opinion could be helpful. Seems to me Company X could call it Company X Racetrack and use it as a marketing/advertising write-off every year while saving a piece of California Car Culture. Having a Hollywood studio -- or a collective of studios -- purchase the property is a great idea. But property developers -- if that's the owner -- tend to be greedy lot and likely wouldn't sell for the actual value; nobody wants to make money more than a developer, not even Tinseltown. It's a great track. A shame that Roger Penske doesn't buy it and make it the Bristol of the West.

If the speedway goes so will the drag strip. I'm in my 70's and a SoCal native. I remember all the drag strips and other raceways that were all over the greater L.A. area back in the 50's-80's. I along with buddies used to live at Lions in Wilmington on weekends. What a blast!! OC raceway, Irwindale (not the current track but a well-known prior facility), Fontana, Riverside Raceway.... the list is long!. All gone, eaten up by developers over the years. The only track that remains and seems stable is Willow Springs but it's remote being out by Edwards AFB. I wish you luck but the handwriting is on the wall. Damn shame.... ☹☹

Sorry to say that your banging your head against the wall. I was one of several drivers to test this track before it opened. Back then it looked like a good place to put a track because nothing but rock pits was around it. But it suffers from the same thing all the other racetracks in southern California do...encroaching public. I race at Saugus when it closed, I raced Cajon, and it closed, I raced Mesa Marin and it closed. Hell, the closest thing to Mesa Marin was a cemetery until they built a housing track across the street, but in all cases people would move in and then complain about the noise. I'm actually surprised Irwindale lasted this long. I knew this place was going to be shut down as soon as they started shortening the last race of whatever class was racing last due to a noise curfew, that started early 2000. Ascot, Ontario, Riverside, and California speedway were all closed because the land was so expensive not due to noise issues. Sorry, but this place is history.

Here's an option . 1 pla e must bring updated motorsports into grounds. Next u offer spectator owner ship on an out door AMA dirt course , a elec closed course moto, class A and C division added. Etc . Open possibilities

Good luck, I've never seen a petition save a track in CA. Even a very successful track in Fremont CA was closed by the city and the land sat idle for many years. Remember there are only a few privately owned tracks in CA, I can think of 3. Californians HATE racing, in fact they hate anything to do with the outdoors. Californians race home to watch TV and and complain about what everyone else is doing, that's it.

Baylands was an amazing experience and location. Idiots that had only greed in their hearts closed it. Sad The People of California do not respect or support racing. It is more than a redneck thing anymore. Good luck. Move north?! No easy answers. A rich man needs to support your efforts. Lucas? Jordan? Harvick? Lagano? Hendricks? Gordon? Hope this calls to one or more of them. I have loved racing in California and nationally for 50 years. Wish all major towns had their own tracks. Sadly only the Fair Grounds are used around here, not many private owned and property operators. Dirt seems to have a bigger market in the central valley. Paved has only a few Madera, Altimont, Kern and Sacramento. Support all your local tracks, or this can happen to all of them. Fresno has rejected 3 known proposals to build a track, privately and have all been denied. Sad. Like the so. Cal situation. Money
