This is one of those times I wish I could animate, because I have the perfect animatic for this: Grian just vibing in the permit office (he’s the one whistling off-key while wearing headphones and sweeping up) meanwhile the song is slowly turning all the hermits into zombies, and by the end, they’re all banging on the windows of the office, and Grian, not looking at them, thinking they’re just angry hermits, puts up a sign in the window that says they’re only open on Sundays. I don’t know, I just find it really funny

This super unhinged version is GREAT, but for the purposes its trying to serve, I feel like subtlety is _key!_ It has to sound completely normal for a while at the start, but slowly become more and more "off" as it goes on. It has to be subtle enough that they notice something is wrong, but because they've been listening to it for so long it feels like its all in their head. Then it kicks into full "unhinged mode" after a loooong time of playing, building up over time and reaching the point it is in this version.

Yes! Have the "perfectly normal" bit a little longer than what it is now, and come in slower with the insanity. The whistling might also be a little much, to be honest, as it's super obvious the second it starts. Like others have said, though, adding some barely audible screams and/or knocking sounds would be awesome as well.

in all honesty what i'd do for a less unhinged version of this is: - remove the whistling - add more off-key notes to compensate for the above lack of whistling, including in the "singing" sections present in the original song - make it slightly slower and pitched down somewhat - make it quieter, add an echo

I feel like the whistling should instead be made way quieter and more distant and have it very slowly fade in and become louder and louder as time goes on, and I also don't think the entire song should be quieter, because that would make it easier to ignore the unnerviness

I mean this as the most genuine compliment to what you've accomplished here: it sounds like a middle school band's rendition of Please Hold, with one father in the audience who's heard it a few too many times during his kid's practice and is subconsciously whistling along (and he's a bit tune-deaf, and not that good at whistling).

maybe possibly add: one part where it randomly pauses for 5 seconds and then restarts from the beggining some whispering in the background some people laughing with a very deep edited voice add a man screaming but extremely high pitched put very loud stomping at the end as though a monster is walking, and make them gradually go faster until the song restarts remove the rythm jazz chords from the replies: instead of removing the rythm the song should be slihtly out of time nails on a chalkboard distant bagpipes if you listen closely, someone would be repeating "run" and "get out" knocking door effect at one point amazing grace 1922 editoin a couple dark bible verses During the pause has grain say all done, so when they come up grain can act confuse and send them down again actually please dont thats too far

I love the idea of a more subtle one, with things like the missed or wrong notes, a single small pause where the music cuts out for 5-10 seconds and then comes back on like nothing happened, maybe a slow morph into a definitively more creepy tune, a muffled thump at some point. I don't know what else... I saw someone suggest slowing it down and adding a faint knocking, which is pretty good. Grian is so perfect for this role, with the soulless eyes on his minecraft skin.
