So sorry to see Please Sir episodes removed from KZbin. As a housebound person without a TV watching this lovely series on my phone was a great comfort.

Given the fact many kids left school aged 16 back in those days, you'd think they could have got some budding young actors to play the roles, wouldn't you.

@@Wally-H I left school at 15 in 1965 and already had a job waiting as did all the other lads who left. Back then if you didn't like a job you could easily walk out on a Friday and get another job elsewhere on the Monday. How times changed!

@@Bulletguy07 Indeed. I was at secondary school from 1978 - 84 and many kids still left when they were 16. We had a sixth form but I would say less than a third of my school year stayed on for it and most that did were re-taking O Levels they had failed, or doing O levels because they only got CSE's. A select few did A levels with a view to going to uni.

ALWAYS LOVED Duffy's accent in particular.LONDONERS.....WHERE is Duffy's accent from?. Also love that mighty 1970's BATTLEAXE joan Sanderson as Doris!. As this episode featured TV it reminded me that, for some reason never explained, the TV @ our school in Aldershot only had an indoor aerial so the teachers would spend ten solid minutes before the programme faffing around the room trying to get a decent signal!!. CAPTION: "The Next Programme (How We Used To Live/Picture Box/Merry Go Round/Seeing and Doing etc, etc)follows shortly"

I loved this show when a kid in the 70s. Very popular in Australia. In my opinion the US series Welcome Back Cotter, of which I hated, was a rip off of Please Sir. The same thing happened with Steptoe and Son, US came out with Sanford and Son. British shows were much better!

Used to be shown on Forces TV up to around 2022 when the TV station closed down. The film Please Sir is regularly shown on TV. The film is better than the TV series in my opinion .

It was NEVER explained why that was the case.I watched this in 1971 and 72 when i was a kid of 6&7.I, just like everyone else in the UK, could SEE with my eyes they were adults but it simply didn't MATTER, we just accepted them as school kids and somehow it just.....WORKED!.

probably the same reason as Hollywood films do it, it's problematic to hire kids because of legistlation protecting them. Later on, they made a kids' soap called Grange Hill. The cast of Grange Hill was made up of real kids, so it must have been a logistical nightmare! Plus, they maybe wanted a cast of adults, so they could tell dodgy jokes and viewers could 'fancy' them😁
@antoniabaker77702 жыл бұрын
How old do you think the cast of Welcome back Kotter were? Most were 25 or 26. I believe John Travolta was the youngest at 21. Older than some of these "students".
@MrMallorcaboy2 жыл бұрын
@@chopchung quite often in them days adults had to play the part of younger people, it was easier to have people with more acting experience. rhe film grease was the same, in that case many were in thier late 20,s and even in thier 30,s playing the part of people still at school.
