I'm 65 and to the horror of my friends, keep away from the health clinic. It's the big 3 for me....mind, body and spirit. It takes guts to stand up to the mainstream western medicine system. I get on the average of one to two finger pointing messages/phone calls a week how I am endangering myself by not submitting to the typical "senior citizen" menu of tests, meds and winter vaccines. They are not impressed by my regime of fresh food, fresh herbs, walking the dog, tai chi and volunteering. Interesting that I get harassed for not needing a doctor in 7 years when all my friends who do all the "right things" are always ailing.

All the doctors I know are the weediest or fattest unhealthy specimens you'll ever see. Went to hospital involuntary after car accident early 2020 and a slight injury, was put through all sorts of tests for free in Sydney Australia as they do and they found nothing, saw a doctor I knew to confirm that all was clear 4 months later when he asked will i take the Covid jabs when they are released...I said loudly NO and he just laughed. Stayed away from doctors ever since.

I would add: 5. Vitamin D, preferably from the sun directly. 6. Water 7. Walking every day. 8. Maintaining social connections. Also, learning new things is good for warding off not only cognitive decline but also depression. Same for maintaining social connections. Depression can lead to not caring about one's physical health, or sometimes even one's life.

I am 71, retired and kicking ass, sailing a little Olympic class sailing boat for the past 2 years, 5 days a week weather permits. I built a lot of muscles on my back, arms and legs, even the dreadful "bat wings" are gone and so in the past 2 years even so I am a vegetarian who eats fish the days I sail. Find something you love and go for it. I hate the gym and would not go, but sailing my tiny laser is like a drug. I am signing up for the master regattas this year. Make age something to brag about. Oh, I forgot, I just pass my sailing instructor degree today. I worked hard for it, physically and intellectually, a lot of material to learn. Go seniors, you got it!

I just told my sister & a friend this exact thing. Im a very healthy 59 yr old. Most of my friends are a couple of yrs older, in terrible shape. Knee replacements, taking meds that are doing more harm than good. Im usually the 1 they'll ask to open a jar..i say ur 2 yrs older than me, why can't you do it? Eitherway ive no desire to be around in 10 yrs. Im not depressed or su¡c¡d@l . I look @ our country & think i can't get out of here fast enough. There are no golden years. If you've done well, saved money, paid ur home off. You will still be taxed to death. I carry my key fob in a protective pouch so hopefully my vehicle won't be stolen or easily stolen. The nearest city is just minutes away. I no longer go to my favorite restaurants bc crime is off the charts. I don't want to caught in the middle of a shoot out on the expressway. They say life is what you make it but I say our lives are tolerating what others hv destroyed. Ive no desire to tolerate it much longer. Sad but true.

I will be 65 in a few months. I have received many many "reprimands" from family and previous co-workers, and doctors. It began 6 years ago when I had breast cancer and refused chemotherapy. I worked in the Healthcare field and in fact had my surgery to remove a 1mm "tumor" at the surgery center where I worked. That is where i "woke up" and began to understand. The pressure to do those drugs was immense. Even so much so that they had me speak to a cancer psychologist who tried to instill the fear of dying into me. After that, it was the government (and my job) telling me I was going to die if I didn't choose a certain shot. I retired at that point, earlier than I had wanted because I was tired of being pressured to take "treatment" that I didn't want. Now, I avoid doctors at all costs. Why is everyone so afraid to die? I know Jesus and I know where I am going after this!

Dr. Dhand, great advice that I would suggest people should start applying in their early 50s. Our body can heal if we give it the nutrients it needs. And starting earlier means you can stay healthy before things start “breaking down”. And don’t let a doctor tell you that everyone suffers from (insert disease). Chronic disease isn’t related to age, it IS related to nutrition. Stay healthy and enjoy life.

Also make sure to focus on lowering your carbs, avoiding snacking, and adding in some extended fasting if possible. Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fibrosis/scarring is reversed over time, including in the heart and lungs. Fasting increases T cell production and regenerates the thymus. T cells are vital in fighting cancer, autoimmune disease and infections but as we age the thymus stops making as many of them. Fasting releases stem cells, which then can become new T cells. Fasting also releases growth hormone, which regenerates the thymus itself, which aids this process! Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. This will also remove any spikes, whether natural or unnatural in origin! Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy. Fasting restores your circadian rhythm to normal over time. Fasting increases nitric oxide release. Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels. Reflexes and short term memory are increased. Fasts from 36-96 h increase metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release! Telomeres are lengthened and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies, rejuvenating your entire immune system. This helps prevent the onset of new autoimmune conditions, which develop through a leaky gut and damaged immune system. Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures. Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer. Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The obese will lose extra tissue like loose skin while fasting, but the skinny or frail will have increased growth hormone release than the obese, which helps to make more lean tissue and reduce frailness. When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell required for viruses to replicate. The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building. Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil. One day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! This reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function. Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers. Some patients may need continued acid reduction medication while fasting. Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No. Except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose. Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle damaged proteins and foreign matter such as viruses. It will can kill cancerous and senescent cells Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism, fighting infection and cancer prevention! Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer. A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. They also help with dementia and many other issues even if you take them while not fasting! Glycine and trimethylglycine can also be useful supplements while fasting that won't break ketosis and have many benefits. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast and seek advice. Excellent advice! Very common sense indeed. I’m 71 and very healthy. The only thing my doctor told me was my blood pressure was too high. I did my research and increased my exercise. I refused to take any drugs to lower my blood pressure. Now my blood pressure is back to normal. So never succumb to pressure to take prescription drugs. Work hard to be healthy.

Dr Dhand you made me laugh with the blueberries, I was in rehab after a bad car wreck. They kept trying to push laxatives. The food was terrible by my standards, I eat a mostly Asian diet. I made a big fuss and insisted they provided blueberries every morning for my oatmeal (the only breakfast I could stand) and I had no problems. They weren't organic but better than what they wanted to put into me. Also, I have been weight lifting since my twenties. When I looked around at the other patients in physical therapy most of them over 65, I felt like Schwarzenegger and I was 70. Even the therapists said I was recovering much better than they usually saw.

Ah, yes, those 'statins'. Biggest lie ever hoisted onto the Boomer generation. Back in the mid 1980s a 300 cholesterol count was labelled as 'high normal'. Then they 'changed the math', and anything over 200 was suddenly just 'high cholesterol' and millions, over night, suddenly had 'high cholesterol' and were put on statins....a huge money maker for them. I, like you, went off my two meds - for cholesterol and thyroid - and I've never felt better. I did it after my doctor told me that "perhaps my thyroid was raising my cholesterol ! " So WHY am I on statins, again, for YEARS, then ?!! Cholesterol makes up much of your brain and is required in EVERY cell of your body to make it 'run properly'. Anyhow the 'battle between the meds' was over, and I am currently on NO meds at all, as a senior. Highly unusual, if you ask around... Like I said, I've never felt better. Statins also have a shopping list as long as your arm of the bad side effects that can develop over the years like diabetes, muscle loss and/or weakness, joint pain, brain fog and even dementia can develop after long term use - another reason why I got off of them. Many doctor videos out here, on these topics. This is just what I did, but do your own research, everyone.

Thank you so much Dr Dhand for the great information. On a side note you hit the nail on the head about the establishment not wanting elderly people to be around too long. My father was in a nursing home and they gave him so many sedatives (three kinds) , he went into renal failure. Mind you, he’s 88 and otherwise healthy. You’re the best thank you for making others aware.

I was in a nursing home after a car wreck. The sweet older lady that was my roommate had a huge family all ready to take care of her. She'd had a stroke. I watched the therapist work with her on her swallowing and she was doing very well. But they kept giving her really poor quality high carb food and then telling her she couldn't go home because her blood sugar kept spiking. Longer stay, more money. You don't have to be House MD to diagnose what was going on. It's not that they wanted to end your father but they like zombie patients who don't demand proper care. Sorry for what they did to him.

I started having some arthritic changes about 2 years ago, did some research and rather than taking the “ pill of the day” I started doing intermittent fasting and what a huge difference! I am constantly reading up on new ways to feel my best without taking new meds. As always thanks for your common sense approach for us to help ourselves. Happy and Healthy 2024 🎉😊

I am 79. I am on no medications and have never been. I do not like to eat food with labels on it (i.e., full of artificial chemicals). A large variety of fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, yogurt, whole wheat bread, eggs, and meats are most of my diet. The meat goes in a regular cycle of one or two days each: fish sticks from north pacific fish, then beef, then salmon, then pork, and and then sardines, then start over again. I use butter, avoiding margarine and other vegetable-based oils like the plague. I still do wind sprints four times a week with slower running and long walks on the other days. With a running start, I ran 100 meters in 22.5 seconds two days ago-- a six-minute mile pace. Sprinting is good for natural hormone generation. My wife is also 79 and does not sprint, but does run but slower, same story. She has not seen a doctor in over 3 decades. Fifteen years ago I weighed 210 lbs and was prediabetic (5' 8" tall) -- which is morbidly obese. Instead of taking medications, I started eating only two meals a day, with a 40-hour fast once every two weeks. The fasting stopped once my weight went below 160. With that and exercise, my weight this morning was 152 pounds. I am no longer morbidly obese. I am still very active in my profession, very productive in life, and feel better than I did twenty years ago. The one down side is that even though I am almost 80 years old, I do not qualify for handicap parking.

When my mother lost her teeth she began depending on the protein supplements like Ensure. She went downhill with dementia pretty fast. Her house was always dark with a lamp to read and she had a small CO1 leak. I had no say in her life, being cut off but I cared and hated to see it happen. If teeth are missing and you can't afford a dentist (USA) it's easy to use a blender for veggies and Spam with breakfast eggs. Oatmeal is highest in protein of grains and easy to eat. Being of Scots descent I took to it!! The advice here is excellent, thank you! Some want a pet but say they can't afford one...the corporate pet agenda is full of lies. I have a rescue English pointer who keeps me, at 76, up and going! We share the same food a lot and I keep kibble on hand. He has only one vaxx....for rabies...plus heartworm ivermectin monthly. That's it. Also there are resources to help if you ask your local govt. shelter....not charities, but the county. They will do anything to place a stray and help with food. The charities like Humane Society claim to be no-kill BUT instead turn over extra dogs to the county for killing.....please beware of such claims. Animal stuff can be as crooked as human stuff!!! Blessed New Year to all...may the UK have some relief and encouragement.

Virtually all you videos are great. I'm 72 now and happy to say that I do all these things, except maybe the strength stuff although I do occasionally break out the exercise bands, but then I live in the country and regularly do stuff like cutting brush and have no problem shooting baskets are playing tennis,. Heck, I hung in for a full hour a couple years ago with a grand daughter who was playing on her high school tennis team. She called it quits when I started actually returning the balls with authority. She shouldn't have started hitting to my backhand and making me run so much. So I don't think I'm being too bad by not doing regular strength exercise. I know my mental faculties have declined some but still enjoy leaning new songs to play on my guitar and now learning to code in a new language, python. I plan, and hope I go out like my maternal grand father. He died from his first heart attack, at the age of 92. He was still going to dances and chasing women. My wife tells me she'll kill me if I start the last part so ???? Funny thing. When you were talking about protein I grabbed my calculator to see how much I should consume. Did the pound to KG conversion and got my answer right when you gave me the answer, 75 kg. (I log all my foods in the fitbit app and looked at the macro nutrients I had consumed for the day. I was 4 grams short but this had been one of my lower protein days.

I rarely go to my GP. Im 60 n on no medications n look 50. I even broke my foot which took 1.5 yr to heal. I just bandaged it up firmly n over time reduced the layers. I decline the cancer scans on my breasts. Also all vaccines. I naturally eat fruit esp blueberries when theres colds or flu about.

As a 10 year vegan over 55, my experience has been that eating whole plant-based foods, and eliminating eggs, meat, fish and dairy, has greatly enhanced my quality of life and hopefully my longevity. The egg, dairy and meat industries are unbelievably cruel, environmentally unsustainable, and full of disease causing elements. Some plant proteins have more protein and nutrients than a piece of meat or an egg. The world’s strongest man, Patrick Baboumian, is vegan and so are many international bodybuilders and athletes such as Fiona Oakes and MMA fighter King Bau.

I'll be sending this to my dear mom. she knows very well of this, but could always hear it again from a more respected doctor with integrity. Thanks for everything you've done for us this year, Dr. Dhand! Total support into 2024✊

Very good advice Dr Dhamd. I do osteoporosis screening and I give the same advice for protein intake. Exercise also very important and minerals and antioxidants. Thank you for your solid advice it us true some people tend to neglect their dietary essentials as they get older, and evidence of that is in the bone scan results.

@@Danielle-xg8cu I'm happy for you. I love blueberries. I tried growing them but it didn't work. Even when I was in France I didn't buy them that often. So expensive 3/4 euros for a punnet of 125grams. Occasionally you can get a similar deal in the big supermarkets in Italy but I live a long way from the towns. A man with a freezer van used to sell frozen ones - perhaps it was 300g for 6 euros! - it was dear anyway. In England for about £3 you can get a punnet of 250g with a two-for-one deal. They should be called blue pearls but America is the land of plenty.

@@sorrykay3450Guess, we have lots of blueberries in our forest, and people are too lazy to pick them up. The climate is clean and very good. It' s a great exercise indeed. Ps. Some people from Thailand come and do it for us. Grazy. Many other berries ( mushrooms) here also. From Finland ,Europe.

Yes, eggs are a great thing to do, especially when you just don't feel like fixing and eating a grander meal. Also making your own protein drinks are a good source also. J Robb protein powders are a great, clean and well rounded source of protein. You can add a banana, berries and any other suppliments you take. I usually make my protein drink my evening meal. Another great source is bone broth. Not mistake just regular broth for BONE broth. Look for organic Bone Broth. Just heat it up with whatever herbs you like and maybe some minced garlic, etc. Yum. Im 81 and just retired.

better to get a proper night's sleep. I worry about people who have energy dips that make them take naps during the day, usually a sign of too much sugar/carbs.

Thank you. I agree with 1, 2, and 3. Your last item #4 regarding antioxidants seems to disregard meat, fish and nuts which are the best sources of cysteine and methionine that our bodies need to make glutathione which I believe is one of the most important antioxidants that we need to combat oxidative stress.

I do these things and not only do I garden (expanded each yr post 2020), I grow my own aronia berries ( higher antiox than blueberries), freeze them for smoothies plus I gather wild blackberries too. I hike everyday and read quite a bit and socialize. I learned how to make sourdough bread and I consume as much organic food as I can. This is why I'm not on any drugs, don't take shots and haven't had covid. My supplements are fantastic!!

Those if us over 65 that were wise enough to take care of our bodies and are continuing to do so, while avoiding doctors offices and unnecessary procedures, especially jabs, are living happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. Main thing, imo, is do whatever you can to avoid doctors' offices. They're there to make money PERIOD. #QuestionEverything
