Thank you for the very thorough video and easy to follow instructions. Myself like some others on here have gotten to the step of flashing the module and seems like board never receives command. I've removed soldering points and reconnected, always receive but it seems to never respond to the BEGIN command. Is it possible the board is just plain corrupted. I even tried removing the BSEL jumper to get it out of BOOTME mode and using PUTTY didn't see any boot up, good or bad.I'll email you a picture of my layout to confirm the wiring. FIXED - My drone had intermittent video back to the mobile phone. I followed these instructions and all fixed now! I was sceptical at first but the video came straight back after the flash. Bloody electronics! If it helps anyone else, the pinouts of the Arduino board are not easy to see so they are, looking at the top of the board with the USB connector at the top and starting at the LHS which we could call pin 1: 1 - DTS (not used) 2 - RX 3 - TX 4 - VCC (5v) 5 - CTS (not used) 6 - GND Thanks Justin Nick

Sounds like it’s not communicating properly, check you have the TX to RX etc connected correctly, failing that try another cable , Ive had one that wouldn’t get past the start and a change of cable fixed it

Tried another USB cable - same result. I also disconnected the Arduino TX and got same result. I was focusing on that connection when another problem came up that I created... I had connected to the board with old thermostat wire (solid core) which allowed too much stress on the connecting pads - pulling them off at the boot jumper. Tried scraping down to connect with stranded wire, but no luck. I'll work on getting my hands on another bad board and try again - lesson learned! Thanks for your help!!!

I made it to the part where we plug the board into the serial converter and into the computer. We set teraterm up exactly as was stated in the video, but all that we get in the terminal is "?]F²" infinitely repeating. Do you know how to solve this issue?

I have two wifi modules, the original one of the drone and one that I had replaced after a couple of years because it had had the same defect. so I took the card programmed as in the video and inserted it in the perforated module and the video goes. I would not like it to be programming for the updated module with holes.

Was the overheating theory a myth? I did the fix but did not take the WiFi module lid off and apply thermal compound. I also left the rubber thermal insulator sticky stuff on the bottom board but put some thermal compound on top of it 🤔

Only in countries where heat is excessive, where I am in the U.K. it never gets hot enough, also don’t run the quad for long periods in the house as this can cause overheating

FlymyMavic ok thanks. My P2+ is like new. I’ve flown it maybe 3 times. I’ve fixed it more than that from just sitting. It works great now. My big concern is the software quitting working when a future OS update kills it. The assistant software and the mobile apps. I hope someone in the community keeps it alive. Maybe DJI will release the source code so someone can keep it working. Without the software the drone almost becomes a brick :(

Still works fine on windows 10, if it comes to a windows version that doesn’t support the software then use a VM to run an earlier OS

If the pads have been burned off, are there any other points on the board that can be soldered to. Specifically, one of my GND pads is gone, but there's a second point I was able to use, is this true for the TX and RX and +V? I'm sure the pads trace to somewhere, just not sure where. Thanks, Jon.

I've connected it all up, and after a few failed attempts, whereby when it says "Waiting for SFT on the DM36x" "Target : starting UART boot" "Target : BOOTUBL" It said this repeatedly in a loop. I repowered a few times, and once it told me UART Rx fail. On the 5th repower, IT WORKED! I saw the message "operation completed successfully". When I re-ran putty with the jumper cable closed I saw BOOTME, then realised I needed to break that connection, but now putty just gives me a black screen with no activity. I've come so far.....is it really death for my drone!?

I had the Waiting for the DM36x.. at first but once I got the RX and TX sorted out it fired right up. If you are having this issue try reversing the TX and RX Might work. Seemed to do the trick for me.

This guide worked for me! I had a slightly different usb board (www.amazon.com/rs485-Interface-Board-Ft232rl-Module/dp/B00O6Q2PKM) that I was using as a DMX stage lighting controller, I was able to use the jumper pins on the usb port side for the rx tx 5v and gnd using an old arduino shield and breadboard to make my connection to the wifi board. Mi process took longer at the uart reciving error loop (5-10 minutes) but it eventually worked!

Hi mate, thanks for the video. I have purchased a FTDI FT232RL USB TO TTL SERIAL ADAPTER board and was wondering what do I do about the jumper pins? My board comes with 3 sets of jumpers with the top two marked 1 and 2. If I move down from there and name the others 3 and 4 then 5 and 6, which need to be jumped? There are no jumper blocks included. It also has a toggle switch for 3.3v and 5v and I presume I switch that to 5v for USB. Your assistance on the pins would be greatly appreciated. I will let you know how it works for me. I would have sent it in your direction but the postage would have been steep from New Zealand Aye ;)

First off I feel your pain, there may be a possibility that the board in the quad has failed and not the camera, are you UK based if so you can send it for diagnosis failing that you need to find someone in your local area who would be willing to test your camera

Thank you so much from Sweden too. This worked perfectly and solved the problem. My old Phantom 2 Vision+ keeps flying. No reason to replace it when it works fine. One comment ... It is hard (or impossible?) to make the binding from a newer Android device. I did many attemps on Samsung S8 and S6 with no success and was about to give up. Then I tried it from my really old Android surfpad and it worked. After binding once was done, it works fine with both phones mentioned too.

This worked great for me. I have had 2 boards go bad. bought 1 replacement, before i knew about this a few years ago. I didnt want to buy another and found this video and the links you set up in the video. VERY NICE everything worked great, superfast and once back together i had a picture again. I am envious of the intelligence the creators of the process and files for this. They are a step above. I love your video, very good details and dont see how anyone could thumb down it. Thank you for helping all of drone pilot that cant keep shelling out more money for the hobby. I will say though i will never buy another DJI because of them not making this known issue right. Next will be hand built piece by piece.

My video transmission module has died twice now. The first time, I paid $75 USD to have it re-flashed. When it happened again, I decided I needed to learn how to do it myself. Many Thanks for that, my video feed is back. couple of things to add from my experience ; It took several goes to get the software to flash, The "comXX" port on mine was com7 but that conflicted with a wireless mouse (so as you do use a basic laptop not a full scale desktop with every port plugged in with external hardware). I also swapped into a usb3 port in the end and that worked. I suggest NOT to solder to the coms board but use these wires with plugs on (cut in half to solder to wifi board) amzn.eu/ecnGz0a and plug to the coms board as you need to disconnect them to reboot but keep the coms board powered up. Read the instructions you link to all way to the bottom of the page as it shows you how to test the board whilst still connected to the PC. And lastly use a long wobble end Allen key so you don't have to remove the legs on the drone. Again Many Thanks for your video!

flashing worked but stil no live image. Everything else works. GPS, Wifi, taking pictures and filming. Also opening the images when the drone is in flight. But still no live image. do you know another solution? Thanks!!!

I’ve only had one board that didn’t work after flashing, turner who also does them has confirmed that he also has had a couple of them.

Hi, great tutorial. I simply can't get the Wifi board to power up - no red light. Have checked with multimeter and there is 4.5v when I test on 5v and GND on the board. Does this mean my board is bad?

Great explanation and illustrations of how to repair the flashing of wifi board. Another problem that I encountered while doing this is that the copper pads on the wifi board as I was soldering it got removed out to the board itself. Now I can't solder the wires into it. What do you recommend me to do?

That’s bad, usually caused by your soldering iron being to hot, there isn’t much you can do other than find the trace and attach a very thin wire to it,

Hi Justin. Im up to the part in dos. keep getting message after enter. is not recognized as internal or external command, operable program or batch file. please help. feel so close. also seem to have more files than whats on your saved flash files.

Daryl, the message means you haven’t either changed to the right place where the files are located in DOS, or you don’t have the files, put the files into a folder called FLASHin your download folder and then in the command prompt type CD downloads then CD flash and then run the command line as stated

Hiare you sure you have the wires connected correctly, do you have your com port showing in device manager as shown at time code 12:17 and in teraterm at time frame 13:16.

Before I flash if I leave the loop cable (boot and 3v3) off, power the chip, then tera with correct settings, then power wifi module shouldnt tera term give me some info to determine the nand aborted.. before trying to flash?? I got a blank screen and even with the loop cable blank screen.. Didnt get boot me with it connected and blank screen with it off.. Both lights are on tinksky and wifi.. So they have power.. Rx to TX... TX to RX.. still blank screen! HELP

Usually a bad NAND chip which can’t be repaired But make sure that the TTL BOARD is supplying 5v and not 3.3v check your wires are attached correctly Buy another TTL board and ensure it’s the one listed in the comments Remove the COM port in the Pc and restart the pc and let it reinstall

Thanks for a great tutorial, followed your steps and got success in the flash program. But unfortunately I got another problem, now I have trouble seeing it in the Wi-Fi settings. Once it's shown, I can not access it. Thinking of getting a gopro gimbal instead. One question ..... can you disconnect the Wi-Fi module and take it out of the drone and fly anyway? From what I understand, the module only has to do with the camera and not the drone itself. I mean when it comes to all the other things like flying and GPS.
