please watch pinocchio 1978

I fell in love with this film just recently and it really is the most faithful version to the original book by Carlo Collodi from 1883. I love Pinocchio as whole aesthetic here...the Victorian boy's designer clothing, even though Geppetto made it from paper. It was a fancier boy's ensemble than that of young street kids like most of his school mates. Another detail I love is the strange music. The cheery hyper picollo flute opening theme, the dark music during the walk through the dark woods, and the droll guitar theme of the fox and cat grifters. Such beautiful, fluid animation, a bizarre mixture of 1930s big expressions with Pinocchio's eyes, and 1970s Ralph Bakshi-esqe realism, especially with Candlewick's rough, jaded face. This is a masterpiece, and I'm glad I discovered it. I do like the 1940 Disney version, and another Italian film made in 2013, but this beats all.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Arale Norimaki was based on Pinocchio, given how the beginning of the story is similar to how Arale was created.
