This show feels like it could only exist in a universe where animation is treated as a medium where anything is possible. But since animation isn't treated that way in this universe by the general public, a show like Scavengers Reign feels like it would be impossible to exist. The fact that it does exist is so surreal though. There needs to be more shows like this that break the stereotype of what animated shows are like

As a creator, Scavenger's Reign feels like something only artists can make. Not just something original, but something that requires an intimate understanding of the outside world and the worlds inside each of us on both a visual and philosophical level. I love how it isn't afraid to be silent sometimes, it's just such masterful storytelling. The highlight for me is Azi and Levi, their development is just so beautiful. The animation is also just something else, it's a shame Moebius isn't around to see it. It's kind of miraculous that something this technically marvelous is coming outside of the mainstream studios, it gives me hope for the future of animation.
@geronimo55372 ай бұрын
Im some months behind finding this anime. But I can tell you some masterful hands were behind it. There are all the classic highlights from animation of past glory in this one. The creators respect the mystery and dont over explain. Some parts are left unfinished such as the books the lady took. However overall it is well done. The music is what brings it all together and it is all heavily 90s inspired. Also if you are a fan of rimworld this setting will be very familiar. Even down to the cryptocaskets. The intro music has that same tone as that of the man in the high castle. Which really brings out the emotion. The best movies are about a group. Not one just one character. This series shows why.
@justinehercthehuman7 ай бұрын
I was so invested with such a unique setting and ecosystem that I had to take snapshots of all the flora and fauna and make up my own words or names for them. Though I hear the creators are planning or already making a book to showcase Vesta's animals and plants, and maybe its weather like the metal shard storm.

What makes this show so unique from other sci-fi shows and movies is how it creates its ecosystems and dynamics of how its flora and fauna interacts. Even the weather in Vesta (planet's name) is so unusual. A moving wall that seems technological but is actually alive? A storm that pours down metal shards which spread like an infection? A plant that can take your DNA and make a clone out of you that tracks you down to bury you alive??? KRAZY WORLD BUILDING!
@vulcanmm65736 ай бұрын
Don’t forget the part where the clone is also a Acid IED with legs that part really got me good😂
@svenlauke11905 ай бұрын
I don't actually see a real ecosystem (biologist here). I just see a bunch of neat ideas with cool designs thrown in together. yeah the running birds somehow symbiotically work with the white trees...but thats pretty much it.
@mythcat12737 ай бұрын
My favorite part was the scene where they show the life cycle of the cloning trees. They could have easily just made it a tree that just makes clones of animals that take the original animal's place cause that's what every piece of media involving evil clones does, but then they showed that it's actually how it reproduces, and it really fleshed out how the ecosystem of the planet works and it was amazing
@arsnow14616 ай бұрын
exactly! one of my most favorite scenes, it was as fascinating as it was disturbing. Even though it was the "threat", the show gave it a proper place in its ecosystem. You need to have such an insane amount of knowledge about how plant life, nature in general works to be able to imagine something of the sort. I cant even begin to imagine the amount of research they had to do to come up with this.
@edgeribble6 ай бұрын
Also this was a classic example of show not tell which the show is a master of as well
@svenlauke11905 ай бұрын
except it makes no sense. the clone serves no purpose. it does not need or even try to actually get the trust of the herd. it just catches up and then immediately burst into acid. not to mention the forest they came through was massive but the way it reproduces it should be in smaller clusters. also, what purpose does the clone actually serve? just infect the animal with something that makes it contaminate the others.

2:37, The mechanical nature of the planet’s ecosystem and how various beings are symbiotically (or sometimes, parasitically) utilized also contrasts with the more chaotically natured humans, each with their own flaws and vices, unable to connect or find harmony with each other or the world around them at it’s many dangers threaten to make them just another part of their cycle. 4:27, These kind of sci-fi entities being pairing with emotionally and mentally troubled humans is also reminiscent of something like Neon Genesis Evangelion, with the cast of that series being contrasted against the alien Angel’s featured in the series, otherworldly beings that, while mostly sentient beings, are largely motivated by a kind of instinct or programming to serve a larger purpose, having little to no concept of the kind of strife and turmoil the human characters are suffering from, the very same strife and turmoil that makes them, at times, vulnerable to the Angel’s, just as Hollow (whose species appears to be truly sapient and capable of not just thought or emotion, but also vices like greed, jealousy and spite) exploits Kamen’s shame and grief to manipulate him. 10:37, Even the scene of Kamen being absorbed by Hollow, figuratively and literally consumed by despair, is reminiscent of a Shinji, a similarly depressed and cowardly character, being absorbed by the Angel Lilith along with the rest of humanity to escape his strife.

The frogs species is meant to simply control tiny bug creatures to give them little berries and other vegetarian foods, but kamen , seeking approval and an way to feel validated and powerful, starts killing animals which eventually snowballs into him literally murderering another one of the frogs species. Kamens greed and insecurities basically corrupt into something it was never meant to be in the end, it’s species was never meant to control something that complex and flawed and it was never meant to be that bloodthirsty and big.
