In the 60s & 70s we tore these kind of buildings down because they were an eyesore and only a necessity after the poverty left from WWII. It makes sense that these buildings are so highly regarded in NK; they're still stuck in the 60s. Pleasure follows hardships. And they're still waiting for it...

The average DPRK citizen gets a lower wage because all basic services like housing, healthcare, education and recreational activities are free of charge and taxation is no longer in place since 1974.

Today, with no taxes, private markets, and a military-first economy, there is almost no semblance of communism in DPRK aside from some Stalinist aesthetics.
