Job site we were working at had this younger Hispanic woman who cleaned out the porta johns, so one day curious, my buddy asked her why she did it. She said it really wasn't that hard, she was home before her kids, and it paid more than her friends who worked at the convenience store, and after changing diapers the smell didn't bother her!

Never thought I'd see a cartoon version of dirty jobs. It makes me miss seeing dirty jobs on Discovery channel all over again. Great show with great work ethics. 😎

I had my dream job as a hairstylist. Nearly 20 years behind a chair and managing a salon. Had to fight with my mom a lot about why I didn't want to work for the state, just so I could get good benefits, like she did, and get a retirement package, like she has. I couldn't stand the thought of being trapped in an office, in a cubicle. I loved my job! I made people happy! I changed their life in a small way by changing how they perceived themselves. Now, it's 10:30pm and I'm laying in a negative gravity position with a cervical/thoracic brace on, I've already had lumbar fusion. But I wouldn't change a thing!

I have shoveled shit too. I worked at a horse stable on weekends, because I wanted to learn about horses. I didnt make a dime, but I got free riding lessons & fell in love with horses. I miss it too, even today, 35 years later.

I totally understand why Les left psychology. It can be very hard to see you are making a difference with someone when they know what they must do but refuse to do it. Cleaning septic takes I am sure gave him a sence of accomplishment every day. I didn't choose to be a therapist. It chose me. From a young age people always told me there problems and some how expect I would know how to help them. I never wanted to go to school and put in the time effort and money to do it. Somedays can be very hard when you have patience that reject the changes in their life they need to be better. I have found the greatest Joy's and passions by embracing my gift of listening and guiding them even when sometimes it takes alot of time and effort to truelly make a difference.

i have always believed in the credo. if you love your job you will never work a day in your life. i have had several jobs in my 60 years. some have been good and some not so much. but when i went looking for another job i always tried to make it better than the one i had just left. i wish that they would bring back Dirty Jobs, but it has to be with Mike as the host

If you follow your passion you'll be good at what you do. If you're good at what you do you'll be in demand and make money. This assumes that what you do is in demand in the first place. If it's not then regardless how passionate you are, it won't matter. If you're not truly passionate about what you do but try to 'choose' to be passionate about what you're doing right now, you'll be miserable, you won't do a good job and you'll just be another face in the crowd who hates his life.
