Plein Air "Just Go Sketching" Unboxing and Review

This video is not sponsored in any way. I purchased this Just Go Sketching kit (and other materials shown) with my own money and am sharing because I watched a lot of plein air set up videos before choosing this kit.

I also learned much from Anne-Laure at Following the White Rabbit! I love her ingenuity and her upbeat videos! She always makes me smile! I’m wondering if you’ve ever tried the Nalgene wide mouth bottles for your water? They absolutely do not leak and they come in a variety of sizes and shapes. I personally prefer the 4oz and 6oz sizes depending on how big of a sketchbook I bring. I’ve never heard of anyone saying they’ve ever failed and leaked, though that is also dependent on if there is operator error while putting the top back on. 😆 Anyway, I loved your video(s) and appreciate the review on the Just Go Sketching kit. I already have most of the kit that I’ve cobbled together over the years and just missing the board, which I may DIY out of gator board. Thank you for all the time and effort that goes in to making a tutorial/review for others! Keep up the good work, and keep those brushes wet!

Love your review and explanation on what worked and what didn’t. Just got this bag in today. Packing up from my previous very crowded watercolor set up pouch. Looking forward to some outdoor experiences!

I couldn’t agree more! Especially as I bought this exact same bag from JustGoSketching plus the sketching companion and the found the very same bag on Amazon for £14! The sketching companion is very handy but at £30 hardly a bargain and I’m sure you could make something similar as it’s not very well finished off for the money! In total I think I paid around £55 -59 - gutted🤨

While this seems nice, I am struggling a bit to see the difference between this and the tonnes of widely available molle pouches (different sizes just like the justgosketching ones) that can be found anything from £7 to £20 with internal and external loops, various attachment points etc. straps or not and so on from Amazon, Army surplus stores and pretty much anywhere. Couple one of those bags/pouches with a nice quality watercolour sketch book, get some board and stick-on magnets (home bargains, B&M, DIY stores etc.) and you have the same thing. From their website the cheapest bag/board/sketchbook combo was £75 (free postage), whereas assembling it yourself would be a fraction of that price meaning you could probably have two sizes of bag (for versatility) and still come in under the justgosketching price. All I can see that you'd lose would be being able to choose the elastic ribbon colour. It's not even original really as once I started looking it seems that lots of people already use this type of bag for urban sketching. don't get me wrong, it looks really nice and has great gift potential due to the nice packaging and little gifts (unless that was just for you as a reviewer?), but I personally think it make much more sense and has more potential for customisation to an artist's own needs to get your own molle pouch/bag and other bits and have £s to spare on creating another sized kit or just to be more affordable.

Hiya! Thanks for sharing. Yeah, one could probably shop around and find the right sized bag and even make the backing board ... but I don't have that kind of time (or persistence). I bought this with my own money by the way and the owner didn't know (maybe still doesn't?) that I unboxed it and reviewed it. Would love to see your plein air kit, if you already have one, or how you put together one! The more inspiration we have out there the better!
