I love the way you tell us the colors used in your mixes, explaining your use of different brush strokes, and your compositional comments. All are so helpful to us beginning painters! You did one of the things I love, I was watching you do the sky thinking it's not working and bing ah yes that's it. I love that moment it's like a magic act, I then rewind and try and work out why I couldn't see where it was going because that's why my stuff is still average if I am lucky. Big thanks!

Jessica, I have now watched about eight of your videos and each time I learn new things and make lots of notes! I especially appreciate how you not only describe your color mixing but you show it on your palette. One of my painting instructors told me that 75% or so of the task of creating a good painting is in the color mixing. You clearly and succinctly show this process in the context of your loose yet believable compositions. I am hooked!

Great work, Jessica. It takes a lot of courage to do a plein air painting, and especially when your are on video. Thank you for putting in the time to create these videos. I have viewed hours and hours of what others create, but have never had the courage to try to create one myself. I did sub so that I can see others that you create.

Hey Jessica, nice work! You were wanting to warm up your skies ... try a yellowish or warm red under painting. Let it dry, then when going over it with your sky colors, let a little of that warm shine through. Do it on the ground as well, it give your work a glow and unity that's hard to do otherwise.

Hi Jessica. Stumbled across your video and was thrilled to see the Robert Moses Lighthouse. I'm a former Long Islander...grew up in Lindenhurst and lived in Hauppauge, Holbrook and Islip Terrace. The last 4 yrs I've lived in Florida and started painting, which when I worked,never had the time to do. The last few months I haven't picked up my brushes but still would watch videos. This week we had to say goodbye to our beautiful Golden Retriever Erin. I decided to throw myself into my art as a distraction from the immense heartbreak. I have never seen your videos in the past but really enjoyed not only the subject matter ,but your style of painting and insightful instruction as well. Needless to say I subscribed before the end! Looking forward to future videos. Maybe I will give this one a try. Painting is cathartic but seeing Long Island brought me to a good place. Blessings Jessica and keep up the great work! Nice Jessica. I like the way you think about your composition, tones and colours. I was waiting for you to paint in some people, ( maybe Tuggles and Tooto who came into view at 24:45 frolicking in the shore break, mmm perhaps not LOL ).But never mind, the lighthouse is the main attraction and makes the painting, well done.

Hi & thanks, new subscriber today; I don't paint in oils, but I find the general painting stuff valuable. It was really reassuring to see sensible quantities of paint going onto your canvas - some oil painters I've seen on YT are very stingy with paint & waste a lot of the lesson scrubbing tiny specks of paint into the canvas until they vanish. It's great to see the canvas actually being covered with paint & with gorgeous texture.
@JessicaHenry7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yep- that's my favorite part to painting- just laying the paint on the canvas- so satisfying!

Jessica : LOVE the painting. Adore the clouds. You make it look easy and your commentary is terrific. Your painting panels are prepared with gesso ... do you leave those heavy gesso brush strokes on them for tooth or added texture to the finished painting?
@sheliacruz35027 жыл бұрын
I just found you. This is a great video. I have tried oils and find them difficult because of the fat over lean. It seemed that you mostly painted with straight paint. Sometimes adding oil. I learned a lot but would love for you to say a few more things about that particular subject during the painting process. You are a very talented artist. Thank you for taking the time to make these. Looking forward to many more, as they encourage me to keep on pushing through the process of learning.

I notice in this one that you did not tome your canvas. What determines whether you do or not? Thanks
@JessicaHenry2 жыл бұрын
It just depends on how high of a key I want the painting, in general. If the scene will be a higher key, then it doesn't serve me to have a layer of darkness altering a cast on the foundations to help me. If the scene is a higher key, I may as well leave the foundation white and let the foundation sparkle with some of that whiteness, allowing that to glitter and shine. (Should any canvas end up showing through).
