Explore the woods with me and watch me paint an oil painting with a limited 3 color palette. A big announcement will be discussed in the video also. Please Like and Share this video if you found it useful. The palette I used was: Titanium White, Ultramarine Blue, Cadmium Yellow Light, and Perylene Red. I actually carry serval versions of the primary colors and choose which ones I will use once I get to the sight. The use of a limited palette really speeds the painting process.
Thank you for watching the video.

9 x 12 guerrilla painter box is exactly what I have. I love your idea of how you modified the insert for larger paining. I’m going to steal your idea and save a lot of money compared to what guerrilla painter charges for those extensions. brilliant idea of using the frame hanging hardware to attach the bungee cord. Great work and great woodland scene. Good luck with the job hunt. I’ve been experimenting with as many paintings as I can do in my back yard.

Thank you for watching. I LOVE my Guerrilla Box. I'm glad I bought mine a million years ago. I don't think they're the same quality now. The mods are soooo easy to do. Have fun.

@@habowskistudio2724 Just finished the modification yesterday. Works like a charm. You saved me at least $30. Great idea. I've watched every one of your videos. Love them. I've done my own outdoor challenge of painting only in the front and back yard. Amazing what you can learn from scenes you never would have considered before. Nice challenge for quarantine. Keep up the good work, and good luck with the job quest.

Hi Bruce, Thanks again for a great little video. I live in Canada, north of Toronto. In isolation, I have been painting old subjects again from photos. I also did a still life of a sweet pepper and a big beefsteak tomato, which we ate yesterday (not the painting). That got me yearning to paint in real life. I live next to a protected area with a creek and saw a wild turkey there the other day (on the road in the city!). What I like about this work is the way you approach a forest setting with some grasses in the spring. I like how you picked out a few trees and added some simple but effective little finishing touches, and how you handled the grasses. I’m glad to hear your mother-in-law is doing better and that you’ve got a potential job offer. We all need some positive and hopeful moments as we go through this pandemic! It’s nice to be able to connect through something we all enjoy doing.

Thank you Hunter. It's interesting that you mention painting a still life....I've been having a hankering to do one myself. Last year I bought some animal skulls that are just beautiful with natural light on them. I also want to do some incorporating candy/wrappers/foil, etc. I like to work with contrasts like that. We'll see :) BTW....I did get the job.

This is a beautiful little painting, Bruce! Very pleasant scene and composition. My favorite subject matter 😉👍 I’ve been spending most of my time painting and finally got outside yesterday morning to do a little plein air, yay, spring is here! I love to get outside to paint, but am still just beginning that process. I’m not worrying about composition or the results as much as I am about enjoying the experience and getting more comfortable with it. I know I will be addicted w/in a short time. This is the perfect time to practice. So I’m jumping in! Thanks for sharing you beautiful walk in the woods and your painting.

Thanks Christine. You have a good attitude about going out to paint. Right now....at your beginning stage....you should just go out and pick one painting battle at a time. I would focus first on finding the brushstroke efficiency that works best for you to facilitate capturing your scene quickly before the light shifts too much. Also....just pick one problem each session. Color application one time, accurate draftsmanship another time. Eventually ALL of those skills will come together in a painting. Practice! :)Good luck.

I’ve just watched your video for the third time and I have to say that I am intrigued by the limited palette. I have tubes of paint thirty+ years old as I switch from medium to medium. Some tubes may be older. That aside I am gradually pairing down my palette to cad lemon, cad medium, cad medium, alizarin crimson, French ultramarine, burnt sienna. I see that I can narrow it further. Thank you

Hi Roxanne - I bought mine YEARS ago and at the time bought the kit from Guerrilla Painter that included the tripod. The box can be heavy, so I suggest going to the G.P. website and order their tripod....not cheap, but worth it. Some cheaper tripods might work, but the box will wobble (Which I HATE) when putting brush against the panel/canvas when painting. The G.P. tripod keeps the box super solid. Good luck.

Hope you've been hired by now! If not, maybe do more of these amazing oil paintings. Really love this piece especially and the quick, free strokes you've applied. How long did this piece actually take I couldn't tell for sure because of editing. I want to learn more about how you confidently know where to go with the stroke + color so I (try to) reverse engineer your pieces that I want to emulate.

Between filming and painting, the painting took about 1 1/2 hours. It can be difficult to find the right amount of economy in brushstrokes, but I think I did ok in this piece.
