Hope you find my video useful. If so please consider supporting my endeavours by checking out my store. I have a small selection of hand made hard laid cord for sale. Traditional hard laid cord is the perfect cord for this style of decorative knotting. If you've not used it will change your knotting forever. bloodknot.bigcartel.com/

Great. Great. Video. Thanks so much. Truth be told, I figured this Knot out (and variants, through exploration) the hard way via diagrams. But thanks to you and Mikko I’m getting better at them and especially their naming. Thanks. Great work!

Exploration is my favourite part. It's so satisfying to master a technique to a point where you can begin to ask the "what if" question.

I've been trying to find a method to make a rounder ball with 8 cords after making an elongated Diamond knot (under-over-under). I have used your other video about the "Nautical Key FOB", but it made the ball flatter. This Globe knot seems rounder, I will have to try it. Thanks for your presentation it is always instructive.

Thanks for your kind words. Another approach is to put a small ball inside your knot. Des Pawson describes the technique in his book. Good luck 👍

References: A. Des Pawson’s Knot Craft, 2nd Edition 2010, Page 25. B. Des Pawson’s Knot Craft & Rope Mats, 2016, Page 39. I referred to these two publications after you mentioned Des Pawson in your previous response and found the knot to be similar to your Globe knot. But it has an added procedure that seems incorrect. The top drawing shows the Fancy Crown knot over the Wall knot, however, once the inside Crown has been done the outside Crown interweaves with the Wall knot before locking the first Crown which you do not do in your video. The second drawing below shows the Fancy Crown without any of the cord interlaced into the Wall knot and indicates to add extra tucks while going towards the Wall below. I do not comprehend that you can put a wooden ball 1.5-inch (36mm) into the first drawing and then be able to add extra tucks. What do you think? Are the illustrations wrong?

Hi JC, No the illustrations are good. The final illustration shows the extension stage just before you start to double the knot by going back through the wall. The extension technique gives more surface area so as to make room for the ball. Adding a ball is tricky in that it sometimes takes a few goes to get the right sized ball relative to your cord size which is also relative to how many passes you do. sometimes 2 passes are not enough to hide the ball yet 3 passes are to many. Hope this makes sense. I struggled with Des's knot when I first tried it but contacted Des directly and he was very helpful. I find his illustration for the fancy crown pretty hard to follow which is why I came up with my own procedure. For me it's makes it easier to remember when approached in two parts, the inner and outer crown idea.

With the extension technique you can of course keep going and you'll get a longer covering. Don't do it with a ball though

Also you add the ball when you have tied the wall and the fancy crown but before the extension tucks. pull the wall and crown apart and you will make room to add the ball. then you do the tucks and continue with the doubling

Hi and thanks for getting in touch. I make and sell all my own cord. It's a hard laid cord and is much stiffer than normal string or paracord which makes it great for this type of decorative knotting. There's a link in the description above. here's the link too. bloodknot.bigcartel.com/ If you sign up to the newsletter I occasionally send out discount codes for specials and sales. Careful though, knotting can be addictive

I can't imagine there are too many knots you haven't tied. I did love your recent version of the spanish bowline. I started wondering what you were going to show me, because I have loved that knot for a very long time. My daughter learnt to tie it when she was 8. So I was thinking it can't be any easier than the way I learned from Ashley. I was wrong, it's much easier. I think I'll still tie it the old way because I know it so well, but if I was to teach it to someone new I think I'd refer them to your technique. Never to old to learn new tricks.

You will find that as you get more followers, there will always be someone to point out another way of doing something. For me this is good, as it gives me a chance to do a revised video on a particular knot. One really big downside to YT, you seem to get more abuse than any of the other platforms. I just try to smother them with sarcastic kindness. Loving the show so far!
