I been saying that for a while now, if you use a hd homerun or something like that you can get it working but just iptv doesn't. it really kinda blows that for a nice live tv layout you gotta use jellyfin

well... i don't understand how the plex for windows app is so underdeveloped. all those features are absent and there's no keyboard shortcuts. you have to manually select audio track and subs for EVERY episode.

Merry Christmas, I only started using Plex this month for the first time. I have a half terrabyte of Christmas content that no channels show anymore and having all that available from my mini pc to my fire 4k max and echo studio made it easy for us to naviagate our own collection and they even had there own Plex selection of Christmas videos too was a real plus.

I have a life long plex pass I bought like 15 years ago before streaming was a thing, and I haven't used the platform in like 5 years, maybe more. I have enjoyed not having to worry about maintaining the infrastructure to store my own media. Cool to see that they're continuing to improve the ecosystem, worth looking into again!

Would love to see Plex get the downloads option working. My family has always wanted this feature to work when they go on flights and have no wifi access. It used to work a few years back IIRC

That feature sucks from a user perspective. I usually end up manually downloading the file. Maybe I'll give it another try to see if they fixed it.

Are you talking about downloading your locally hosted music files with PlexAmp or movies with Plex in general? Quite possibly the issue is a folder access (authentication) restriction depending on where you are trying to place/store the file.

How about they fix the Roku bug that crashes some Roku TV? That bug has been around for years and they don't even acknowledge it. I have a lifetime pass and I still regularly think about ditching Plex. I'm also annoyed with how much reliance Plex has on the cloud. Cloud authentication is default and turning on local authentication can only be done while you have Internet. If your internet goes down and your session expires you can't use Plex to watch local media. The whole point of Plex was local media.

Hello Shannon. Thanks for another great video. Not a comment about Plex but could you perhaps look into your microphone settings once? Not sure how to describe it but the audio lacks richness and sounds tinny. Played the video with two earphones, then on iPhone speaker and then TV speaker.

@@nonya13 Plex banned Hetzner cloud which a lot of people used to host Plex. Plex doesn't want to look like they support piracy. Hetzner is a legit company IMHO but I hear a lot of people use them for "commercial" piracy.

Great video. As a longtime plex user, I love that it picks up on any of my client devices where I left off. Never felt need for lifetime, but these features look nice! Other “free” media servers seem to have many issues with the client software

I’ve never run plex and just fired up Jellyfin within the last year. (Living under a rock, what?) Other than transcoding issues (server is a pi) and the client a $25 Roku trying to stream h.265 video, it’s been a pretty good experience. I hear that JF used to be a lot rougher and it’s recently gotten better.

Lifetime Plex pass here. I regularly think about switching to Jellyfin. The only reason I don't is my wife is used to Plex now. I still may switch because of data collection.

Plex needs to fix the current problems of Atmos support for Apple TV users. This has been outstanding for years and never gets fixed. As a Plex pass subscriber they are ignore the core functionality and adding in items that are not really required for a media server

In my opinion, Atmos makes no sense. Atmos only makes sense if you have several speakers connected and properly spaced, if the music file is recorded in multichannel and if you have a suitable room for it. Usually, there are no conditions for this in homes. Besides, few songs are recorded in multichannel.

Plex is better when you uninstall it and replace it with Jellyfin. Self hosting should not require an online account. You should be able to stream natively without transcoding.

@@esaedvik I was doing that, but it is really nice with Jellyfin to keep track of what you have already watched and resume easily, the pretty frontend and auto meta data is just a nice boon as well. Seriously, if you have not tried it, it is free and open source and waay better than plex can ever be.

Plex pass is totally worth it! Thank you for showing us some new features. One thing I find annoying about Plex is that I have to manually enable subtitles every time I start a video. I wish there was a way to default to showing English subtitles for all videos. 😢. Maybe there's a way that I am not aware of?
