I've been shooting a mod 92 in 357 for 10 years now. A 20" octagonal barrel with case hardened frame,nose cap, and curved buttplate. Its my number one levergun. Feral hogs, coyote, and Feral dogs all have fallen to this rifle with my 160gr 357 cast loads. It is positioned in the "first grab" position in my safe for good reason. It simply works. 👍

Plinking with light caliber lever actions is always a good range trip. They are a great change of pace with their light and fast handling and natural point of aim. Great video!

You probably already know this, but if you're shooting to the right or left, it doesn't hurt to check the rear semi-buckhorn sight to see if it's centered. Because it sits in a dovetail, it can end up misaligned if you put enough pressure on it that you unknowingly move it. I had that happen to me with my Rossi 92 when I first got it, although that sight has been replaced with a Skinner sight that the gunsmith secured pretty firmly. The rear sights on my other two Rossi rifles can't be moved unless you use a punch+rubber mallet.

I have had a 357mag Marlin for decades, 1894CB, octagon barrel, 20". I have others, and they are fun, but I am pretty fond of this one. I put Skinner sights on it. It is hard to miss with that gun. A 357mag 16" gun (trapper) would be very handy for whatever you needed done at not too great of a distance. Plenty of power out to about 75yds, 100yds if the game is not large. I have taken deer with my gun, usually in the 50 to 75yd range. I did take a cull spike at about 110yds. Worked fine. Recoil is pleasant, not a concern. Lever guns are simply enjoyable. If you ever get hooked on them, you do not get unhooked.

You are a man after my own heart. I have the same Marlin and also installed that Skinner rear sight. I have one of their "winged" varieties for protection in the field. Having no sons, I informed my coveting young son-in-laws that upon my passing whoever wants it most, must give me a grandson first.😅

It happens on occasion, but is more the luck of the draw. I had a friend from my police academy days who had 20/10 eyesight put all 50 shots separate in the final qualification to leave no doubt he had hit the target with every shot. He wanted top gun and he had already been into it with one of the instructors over his accuracy because he had overlapping holes.

Nice! The lever action was the AK/AR of its day. I got a Henry 22LR a while back. Sad to say it kinda sucks. Instead of loading via a side gate you load through the tube. The retainer spring rod likes to fall out. As a result, I've not even been slightly tempted to purchase any of Henry's big bore (44 Mag or 357 Mag) lever guns. Your Rossi looks good.

Many yrs. ago I used to roam around the woods up behind the house in NE Penna. with the single shot bolt action 22 rifle & plink at this and that . Believe it was one of the "Sears" brands. Would have been more fun with the Rossi.

There is not much that can’t be handled by a pistol caliber lever rifle, that people think only an AR can.

Having thrown thousands of rounds downrange from various lever action rifles including 357 and 45 Colt Rossi, hete is a fast shooting tip . First don’t take the rifle off your shoulder to cock it. Next ,use what I call the handshake grip. Keep your thumb of your shooting hand on the same side of the stock, don’t cross it over the stock. This is faster and makes it easier to give the lever a full , fast stroke. Takes a couple of tenths of a second off the cycling of each shot.

It’s a length issue. Get the longest 38’s you can find.

Weird, I keep answering this question and it keeps disappearing. Basically I've been shooting with LRN thirty eights. Yesterday was the first go with magnums. Hardcased magnums worked fine. I had a slight hiccup with HP's not feeding because of not working the lever all the way.

I wouldn't get too enthusiastic about r92 if you handload. Near of full power .357 loads fail after 2-3 reloads due to being made with funnel mouth chambers. Better a Marlin or Henry.
