This little die would make a cute little buckle. Beautiful work as always Merrylee. ❤️

Thank you for your investigation into plique a jour. You are so generous with your information and there is not much out there. I wanted to contribute a little. I took a plique a jour class with Amy Lyons and discovered a couple of things. For the first fill she leaves a hole in the center of the cells so that the enamel doesn't pool on one side and the enamel is covering the cell walls. She does the longest and hottest fire for the first and last fire (1min 20 sec at 1450F). She also fires the enamels damp.

My thanks for very informative video! As another commented "there is not much out there" to learn from, so I really appreciated you sharing this technique. I am learning basics of silversmith/jewelry but am limited by equipment (no kiln). However, I am pretty good with torches. Have you ever seen a piece (similar to that in video) successfully fired via torch? I have spent many hours on other projects, only to eventually realize my approach was impossible or beyond the hours remaining in my lifetime! LOL 😒

look up MARCUS SYNNOT TO TEACH TORCH-FIRED PLIQUE A JOUR WORKSHOP. I saw him demo this in about 2011. He swears it's a superior method, I like klns!

For the "dry completely" part, how long are you letting the piece dry?

How many mm thick is the frame? I am thinking this is a cast piece?

Hi Catherine, the metalwork was done using a die from Potter USA. It is pressed from a sheet of 16 gauge fine silver.
