I don't know how I never noticed until now, but Sanemi is like a direct parallel to Tanjiro. He's got pretty much the same backstory. The only major difference between the two of them being that Sanemi killed the demon that he loved, whereas Tanjiro obviously didn't. Sanemi is what Tanjiro would be if Nezuko hadn't fought against her demon nature.

Sanemi’s survival was a giant irony to his entire life’s goals. He hated his life after his mom died, but he killed demons to make his life worth something, and when his best friend among the demon slayers died he survived. The same was true with the fight against Upper Rank One and Muzan. I think it was right for him to learn not to hate his life or himself, and to live like all those who fell before him wanted.

Neither individual needed to be near each other, but ironically it is because they cared for each other that they could not leave each other alone. That's what called a destructive relationship, and is the opposite of Tanjiro/Nezuko.

I don't know what his line was in Japanese, but since Japanese uses rude grammar tweaks more than a defined list of swear words (although they do have a few of those!), dropping a bunch of English vulgarities into his lines is one way to convey the level of disrespect he's speaking with. He probably just shouted one of the rude forms of "YOU!" (they have so many different pronouns for "you")

It's crazy how unlikeable one person can seem to be Until you learn of the unimaginable grief they've had to endure and the trauma they are cursed to live with. The first impression of Sanemi goes along the lines of "What's the deal with this psychopathic douchebag?". Our first instinct is to berate this character because of how he treats the ones we've grown intimately familiar with: Tanjiro and Nezuko. However, Sanemi's a reminder to not judge people, even when they seem so oppositional to you. Even when it doesn't seem like it, people can have hearts of gold. Everyone comes from somewhere, and Sanemi comes from a dark, shitty past. I think Sanemi takes the spot for my favorite character in this amazing cast of characters. The payoff of learning of his journey, seeing him repair his relationship with Genya, and seeing him in battle was just awesome.

He still abandoned Genya, belittled him through his apology, ran away from him for years, then tried to mutilate him to "protect him from the fighting" (aka out of anger for not doing what Sanemi said). If good people can do bad things, bad people can do good things, and his treatment of Genya makes his overall aggression, judgment, hatred of people just living (like tomioka), and irrational behavior pale in comparison. Everything in Sanemis world is about Sanemi. Little brother says something in a panic? That's what he meant for all of time, no apologies allowed. Little brother joins the Corp? It's to get back at me, not to make a difference and survive. The ubuyashiki family is the boss? It's because they think they're better than me, me, me. Tomioka is withdrawn? It's because he personally sees himself above me. He's immature, abusive, self centered and a great fighter. None of these erase the others.

Sanemi and Gyomei are monsters, Sanemi hunted demons and made them all suffer by brutalizing them until sunrise, Gyomei beat up a demon with his BARE hands until sunrise. After looking at this, I understand why they're two of the strongest hashira in the entire demon slayer corps.

​@@MarsElggaseIt's not about what you lost, it's about how you tolerate it. Like Shinobu, she also witnessed the death of her loved ones but she's able to mask her emotions. Giyu deals with the same but somehow can't handle the guilt to the point where he doesn't care if he dies. (depression). Sanemi, just like Shinobu is filled with anger but just lets it out whenever he wants to.
