More ploughing sports fans! The Ford TW25 is working hard! The Dowdeswell DP7 fell apart again so had to be welded up. Part 2 will follow soon, where i'll see if the TW will keep up with the New Holland T7 210

Wow, what an excellent video George!! I’m not surprised you love spending a day ploughing in the old TW - the sound it produces is absolutely awesome, fantastic tractor, I could watch and listen to it all day. Must be a cracking experience actually driving it? Your one lucky superstar!

If you're pulling the plough apart then firstly dowdswells were always pretty poor and often had more weld than metal when ours got binned for that reason went to kvernlands LB variwidth near unbreakable on cambs/northants thick clay. And secondly I can hear my late Dads words drive to ya conditions son..lol first thing he told me aged 7 first ploughing lesson 😁

Thats what we did in 1988 never got a full season out of a used Dowdeswell, it kept breaking points off or the holders as well, if it didn't blow the factory spec shear bolts ploughing on shale in West Wales. bought a brand new auto reset kvernland 4 f reversible, and added a furrow press that wasn't on the 4f DP. We still pulled it with the same 1046 IH she'd go as fast as you'd ever want. It would never stop as she'd trip out all 4 legs in a row if it got close to the shale, and rip it up in the furrow. A local contractor pulled the same plow without the press, he figured his opened up 155 + horse 1255 with fluid clutch wouldn't pull it being equal to 5 f with the press L.O.L

@@super6954 Great memories I bet!! Was that one of the packomat Presses thats built onto the plough and you flip it over hydraulically when you flip the plough ? They’re a great job still see some going around here
@super69542 жыл бұрын
@@upthereds4939It was a fully towed flexicoil with 2 coil rolls in. it had a hitch either side on the roll unit. Then an arm mounted by the headstock on the plough to catch it at the start of the next run,. it worked ok on long runs, but it had to be towed between fields with another tractor. It was a pain on headlands or the first pass to so we power harrowed them, but it still saved time with seed bed prep on 90% of our land. we never contract ploughed with it either . I have great memories of the 1046 tractor even after 20 years in Canada. I wish we'd shipped it. It was rarer in the Uk with the comfort 2000 cab. she did us well with over 10,000 hrs on with 1 rebuilt motor because it spun a bearing. at 5000. Last time I saw it was a picture in a tractor magazine I get sent over about 15 years ago when it was sitting in the back of Richard Baggots tractor shed with others he had advertised ,Hopefully she still lives as a classic and wasn't converted for a tractor puller or scrapped.

George, I think that depth wheel hits the deck when you turn the plough over. Are you catching it as you reverse and turn it over at the same time, putting strain on that pin? I am certain I saw that happen at one point in the vid but cannot find it in a review. Have a look and you may need to make sure you only turn over with the tractor stationary. Love your videos here in Aus.

It’s not the power of the tractor that’s breaks your plough! It’s the draught control on Ford tractors that does not allow that hydraulics to lift the plough up & down quickly enough. It put more strain on the plough and breaks it.

Hi George Why Don't you Use Duel Power to Knock it down When it Gets Heavy ? Thats What they Invented it for So you Don't Break the Drive By Declutching to Change Down. I have heard you Say before You Like to Set off in High Duel Power But You Wont Hurt it Going Low to High or High Low in Difficult Spots Its One Of the Best Things Ford Made on These Tractors I used to Drive 7810/7610 5th Gear With Low then High Duel Power With 4 Furrow Dowdswell And Used it All the Time Under Heavy Loads And Never Brock Anything😊
@GeorgeSaunders2 жыл бұрын
Optimum gear on this ground was 5th low dual power which is what I was in most of the time. The tractor goes from high to low no problem, but when he going from low to high there's is too much of a delay in the uptake of the gear, so when the tractor is under a lot of draught stress like when it's ploughing it stops before re-engaging which isn't very kind to any of the drive components. Hence why I avoid up changes under load, I have explained all this In one of the ploughing videos.

I think you should use a 7610 on the plough, 5 furrows no front weights
@GeorgeSaunders2 жыл бұрын
Why?
@alanchatfield42712 жыл бұрын
@@GeorgeSaunders because the 6.6 litre 6 cylinder 12 valve cross flow head of the tw 25 is to powerful for the Dowdeswell,, to be honest I was only joking saying about the 7610, would love to see it tho, definitely need front weights and I would be frustratingly slow, don't bother with 7610 🤣
@GeorgeSaunders2 жыл бұрын
Ahh I'm with you now lol! Think the 7610 might struggle to lift it😂

@@GeorgeSaunders double assistor rams and the 7610 would just lift the 5,, would need 1000kg on the front tho,, have you ever tried your tw25 on the 6 furrow with just the belly weights? Does she stay down?
@GeorgeSaunders2 жыл бұрын
This 5 furrows heavier than normal, the depth wheel is foam filled and solid, it ways an absolute ton! Which is why it's not to kind to the turnover mechanism. Yes if you look at some of the videos from a few years ago, I used to pull a 6 furrow DP7 still with the front wafer weights
