Plowing garden with Sears Super - SS 12
Picked up another toy this weekend. Although this one will actually be used for work. Here is a quick walk through and test plowing the garden getting ready for planting in a few weeks. These tractors are really cool pieces of history... from the "good ol' days"

Reminds me of my little garden rig I use to have. Use to have several acres with big garden. Used a craftsman garden tractor with 3 point hitch and plow, disc, middle buster attachments. Ran that thing 19 years. Never had a problem with any of it. Moved to town and sold it. Watching your video really gave me some good feelings of days gone by. Thanks

Thanks for watching... That is one reason I love the old things. Maybe one day my son will look back and remember "plowing" our small garden. That is what I love about our Farmall... it reminds me of my grandpa's tractor and having to go to his place and pick garden all the time.

good idea putting top soil in with it. also put that tractor in 2nd high and it will flip the soil over alot better. I have a 70 ss12 and found 2 high works the best for turning and the tater plow. as long as u can keep traction.

His problem is that the plow is nosed down too much. It should "float" at 5 - 6 inches of depth. He should only use the lift lever on the ends to turn. The hitch is either too low on the tractor, or the adjusting bolt for the plow bottom is set wrong.

We will be plowing it again this year because we added a bunch of mulch and 12 yards of topsoil but need to get it turned over. I will have to read up on adjusting the plow thanks for the advice we figured it was just digging in because of the sand.

Very cool machine. How big is the garden you are plowing and is that the only plot you intend to use this for? I have a very small garden that I turn over every year just with an oold free handmedown front tine tiller. It is a BEAR to use on virgin ground and I really want to expand. just wanted to get an idea of what range of square footage this kind of garden tractor would be good for. I guess it would be easier for me to justify the purchase too if I could find one with a cutting deck.

It's about 40x40. We lover it although we may just use disc this year until we get more top soil mixed in with that sand. Good luck... we check craiglist periodically looking for the mower deck that went with these but they are hard to find.

ive never used a plow but want one. doesnt look like its adjusted properly

we haven't either that was first time. I think that it is because we are just sand so it doesn't 'turn' the soil like it should. We are going to skip the fall/winter garden this year and haul in about 10 yards of topsoil, manure, hay, etc, etc and let that sit all winter and then till and plow again. It is taking too much water to keep things growing in the hot summer it is like a beach.

+BigRedFishDad I love them. I spent 300 on mine. then I worked for my customers and I made 2,000. by just grading there drive way and mowing there yard
