Plowing With The Model 40-72 Gas Tractor - Largest Cross Motor Tractor J. I. Case Built!

This Case 40-72 was the largest Cross Motor Tractor the J. I. Case Company Built. From 1921 to 1923 only 41 of these tractors were built making them extremely desirable to J. I. Case Collectors. The growing demand for smaller row crop tractors probably led to the tractor’s limited production and early demise. Although rated 40-72, the Nebraska Tests showed it could do 55 horsepower on the drawbar and 91 horsepower on the belt. It Weights in at 21,200 pounds and can pull up to a 10 bottom plow. It has a Case Designed 4 cylinder valve in head engine with a 7 inch bore and 8 inch stroke and its maximum drawbar pull is 10,680 pounds! My late fathers' step father founded the American Tractor Company in Adelaide South Australia in about 1920 or 21 with a couple of Aussie partners who turned out to be conmen. Herbert Frank pioneered after sales service ( he was by trade a mechanical engineer) he would go out to a farm where one of these new Case tractors had been delivered and shew the farmer how to hitch up the plough and how to plough the paddock as these blokes only knew horse teams so a huge learning curve. He wen't broke in 1930 when the business partners skipped with all the company funds. I still see a few of these old cross motor case tractors that have survived the scrap iron drives of the 1960's.

There is one of these in Hemet California it's on an old plot of land and the lady is a widow her house is surrounded by modern homes in the middle of the city she's I'll and dying and the city is trying to claim her property he has tons of old farm equipment dating from the 1900s and people are complaining about her 20 acre yard in the middle of this concrete jungle I've talked to her and she said she will sell everything to the right person she doesn't want it scrapped...she almost 100 years old......

@@robertmoulton2656 the only reason why Case went broke is because it wasn't funded by the government when the crisis started.The only reason why Deere survived and continued manufacturing junk to this day is because for some reason US government decided to financially support them
