Its like everything else illegal, only the idiots gets caught. The real big $ bets and high profile athletes are smart enough to have a fall guy like ohtani in mlb. Why else would every single major sport promote gambling? Its smoke and mirrors for what the real bookies do

It does not happen as much as you think. Think about it, the top players wouldn’t do it because they make so much money they don’t have enough of an incentive. The players who would be prime candidates for this would be players EXACTLY like Johntay Porter. He has a MAJOR incentive, being a journeyman who could be out of the league at any given moment. Also, these sportsbooks invest big money in security when it comes to things like this, preventing them. Prop bets are tough though, but it would be guys like Johntay Porter so there is also a smaller pool of players to oversee. I would not be surprised if many of these sportsbooks have a specific individual personally responsible for overseeing small groups of players where if this occurs, it’s caught in no time. Just like Johntay Porter’s situation. Sportsbooks do not lose money.

The Integrity of the NBA took a hit on its "media platforms" the minute the likes of ESPN Commentators were overtly taking about "Tanking" a One and Done Playoff Match, like it was Commonplace. Specifically, The Lakers vs. Pelicans, play-in game on Sunday. If you think about the fact that the likes of prominent announcers, who have "inner circle knowledge" and "networking" to the workings of the game, can make such "a matter of fact statement" about potential thought processes of players/teams in the game, what makes you think "gambling insiders" aren't far off?
